Interesting there's a DO Silver character encrypted and a DO Silver character not encrypted released on the same day - finally trying to do some real comparisons?

Unfortunately the Aiko one I wanted to buy is encrypted and the one that isn't encrypted is for Kalea who I don't own. So -1 sale from me. I was hoping for something to use my coupon on before the end of the month, too. Oh well.

Since a lot of the back catalog is in Poser format they will not get encrypted, Poser wouldn't be able load them if they where.

True. But that doesn't change the fact nicstt is correct:

The original plan was that there was no plan to release excrypted only content. That plan lasted only a few days. But is was a good plan in hindsight.

No, that was the new plan after the previous one was abandoned. Early beta, the info we were provided was that eventually all products would be encrypted. Including back catalogue items - all products.

Actually this is incorrect, as there was no way to encrypt Poser items to make them work in poser. Also the plan was not to encrypt old back catalog items. Several posts was made to this fact despite people still making this incorrect statement.

Actually MM ... you are incorrect the original post stated that ALL content would eventually be encrypted and then it was changed as the thread became more heated.

Please look at at the comment richard said about connect. Poser items were not part of connect because there was no way to encypt them and make them usable in Poser. So I was correct. Let's move on.

The comment said "ALL CONTENT" there was no distinction between Poser and Studio content at the time. What is being said by Richard is answering a different question.

Through Connect. All content was not encrypted. Please stop.

All content (via connect) was encrypted. That was changed very early in release; please stop claiming it didn't happen that way.

    Richard states as much above.

Accuracy is always important. It would be wrong to judge something Daz said, based on false or innacurate information. Or if you prefer: how timmins.williams said it.

As Richard stated on the last post on page 23:

To clarify - only Daz Studio native formats (.ds? scripts, .duf user files and .dsf asset files) can be encrypted. Other formats (Poser files, OBJs, textures) cannot be encrypted.

The change was that originally all content in those formats would be encrypted, even if they were available unencrypted through DIM or manual downloads.  This was changed so that only content which was encrypted only would be encrypted.  This never applied to content in other formats, e.g. Poser formats, .jpg's, etc., which were always unencrypted.

I had both in cart, and removed both. The DRMed one is not in wish list either. I can't see me caring that much in a year.

That's my view; once encrypted, it's a lost sale.

Why wouldn't you want it in a year?

  • Why wouldn't you want it in a year?

With me, it's pretty simple. If the vendor doesn't trust us to be honest and not illegally redistribute the product we buy, they are not worth supporting, since there are plenty of vendors that do trust us enough to continue to provide them unencrypted.

I noticed this too. Also, Kenji 7 HD remains the only "core" product that is encrypted.

I've managed twelve months without it, so no real need. If the price is really low I might, but a lot of new content gets released, so it will have to compete.

Your original suggestion of three months, would have made it more likely I'd have bought it; I see the point in wishlisting an item then, but twelve months, no.

I feel very fortunate that I'm not interested in Genesis3, or the encryption thing would make me nuts.

    Encrypted products me no sale.

I'm with you Will , I have no interest in genesis 3 either. and the daz encrypted content & connect only products like the sports cars and stuff, well I have to wonder if they stopped the piracy enough to justify the loss of sales they may have missed because of the encryption in place. I heard alot of people say they will wait a year. for the product to become unencrypted., My opinion would be is if we still even want in a year.   I only speak for myself. I know if its daz connect or encrypted only product then I have no interest buying it, and when it comes to shopping in the Daz store. if i take the time to look at a product that I maybe interested in buying, the first thing i check is how the product is delivered, I'll consider purchasing products with Dimm or manual downloads , But, as far as I am concerned with the Daz connect encrypted products Daz mise will not even post them in the store. because I will just pass them over like they had the plague.

I just bought the Wanderer Mobility Scooter in the catchup sale. It's listed on the page as all three download methods, but on my Product Library it was suddenly Connect only. I've filed a ticket, and will update here on it.

If it's Connect only, I'm returning the item (tbh, I was close to angry enough to return the whole purchase if it's connect only).

Where are you seeing that the product is available via Connect Only? It appears what you have underlined in the attached image states "The product is available through Daz Connect" and provides instructions for downloading with Daz Connect as it is one of the download options, as you have mentioned.

Underneath the instructions it also appears as if there is a link for Manual download? Which is also one of the three options.

It may take a short wait period for the download to be available through DIM I think. But it would appear from your images you can at least do a manual download right now. Or am I missing something?

The manual download is only for the template (which I've seen before with encrypted items I accidentally purchased - and returned). It's an older item, so no reason DIM and/or manual shouldn't be available if they are supposed to be, and the product page states all three methods should be available (you're right though that the underline I did is confusing).

EDIT: and yes, I downloaded and checked what was available - it is in fact the templates, nothing more.

  • You are right,  I do see now the manual download file is labeled as just the 'Templates'.

Seems strange that the issue wouldn't of been picked up before now as you mentioned its been in the store for a while and the store page does clearly state its not a connect only item.

I hope they get back to you quick, Let us know how it goes.

This is an issue of DRM products causing problems for customers; yes I realise it's a mistake, and shouldn't be doing what it is, but that emphasises my point, and the point others have made: DRM causes issue for customers, far more than others, although in this instance, the PA also has to deel with it too?

    @Nath

I hope you get it resolved soon.
