The store page shows all three options for the Wanderer Mobility Scooter http://www.daz3d.com/the-wanderer-mobility-scooter

There was a discussion earlier about the scooter, page 12 of this thread, and while it's not encrypted, it only delivered through Connect. That was one reason why I dudn't buy it back then.

Right, and I bought it based on the information on the store page.

And since it still seems to be Connect only in my Product Library, once Sales get around to my ticket, that's definitely a return. Ah well...

The store page really should have said so if the connect-only-but-not-encrypted download is intentional, since if you cannot trust the info on the store pages...

Well, all's well that ends well...

The manual and DIM downloads were added to my product library page. I don't know whether this would be across the board, but my issue has been resolved satisfactorily (even if it took most of a day before the site would work enough to download)

I thought there was a recent release that was Connect only?

  • 4.9 requires you to connect to Connect. If you don't, a dialog keeps popping up that you need to sign on otherwise DRM content won't be available. This is true even if you don't use Connect or DRM content. I've issued two tickets so far and in both of them, I was told that connecting to Connect was required. So don't let anyone tell you that Connect is optional. It most certainly is not.

I have 4.9 installed without having to sign in, and I've never done so even when installing it, So I can't say what's the matter with your install, but it's certainly not the case for everybody. Maybe I'm the exception; who knows?

It most certainly IS; otherwise there would not be an option to not show the dialog box again if you did not log in.

I have yet to sign in with Connect since I reinstalled everything a few weeks ago.

Is that dialog box popping up whenever you launch, or like over and over again in a single session? If the first, then that's normal, just ignore it.

I've never once signed into Connect either, and 4.9 runs just fine.

Actually it is optional; I use it without Connect, I have SQL uninstalled; I don't own and will not be buying (including freebies) DRMed content.

I can live with the popup.

While the pop-upmis annoying, just closing it each tiem you open DS will not interfere with anything other than the use of Connect at this time. Obvioulsy I can't guarantee that that won't change in future, but it is certainly the way things are now.

On my machine, at least, if I hit 'esc' it closes the popup. Which I find easy compared to click the little x

The very first time I launched 4.9, it asked me to sign in. I checked the "don't ask again" box, said no, and I've never seen the box since.

Regular 4.9 or beta? Because when I had the beta it kept nagging me to sign in even though I'd told it not to ask. It wouldn't quit until I gave in. But I never used Connect to download anything and I hated the way it decided my stuff should be "organized" to the point where I couldn't find anything. Was not working out for me so I dumped it. Maybe I'll have better luck whenever 5.0 rolls around. Assuming the Connect and/or Encryption issues are fixed.

  • That's with regular 4.9; I never even installed the beta.

Well if regular is doing the same as the beta, I'm glad I held back on upgrading. Obviously for some of us 4.9 is not paying attention to what we tell it. I like to run my programs, not have them run me. Or make me run around in circles trying to figure out what the heck it's doing. Would much rather be making art than wrestling gremlins in the works.

The box asked me to login when I installed, I told it not to ask me again, and it never has.

Never seen any mysterious repeated login asking.

I just tried it on an old laptop which has never had DS installed.  Installed the Public Beta, selected "Work Offline" and "Do not show this again" on the dialog, and it hasn't popped up again.  PostgreSQL is installed and working.  Can you post a screenshot of the dialog you're getting?

  • The dialog pops up every time I start the app. Ignoring it not an option. It's just so annoying. Maybe if you have never ever logged into Connect, then you are the lucky ones. I must have connected a LONG time ago (probably when it asks me to connect the firest time) and yes, I did check the checkbox to not ask me again. Regardless, a popup will appear every time you start the app. I have two tickets on this. It's a known issue where I was told I must connect to Connect. I responded that I will never use Connect or DRM ever. They said that connecting to Connect was the only way to get rid of the dialog. So just a warning to those who don't have that popup. Never use Connect, not even once. Or you'll be in for some nasty nagware.

Can you post a screenshot of the dialog?  Is it about a configuration change?

  • PetercatPetercat Posts: 2,321

I have 4.9, let it connect once when I built the computer (had to connect online anyway to verify Win7).
Got the popup when I opened 4.9 about 3-4 times, kept telling it to not show dialogue again.
Finally stopped showing it. Haven't seen it since.

Although I rarely install anything with connect, I do login to connect because it updates my smart content with the latests changes, and I find smart content invaluable

I suppose it's sort of nagware, but given tapping 'esc' every time I open the app takes a small fraction of a second... eh.

It's been a while, so I don't remember much about the details, but I had done something which instructed DS 4.9 to want to refresh the meta data. Until I connected, I was still getting those nagging login requests. I eventually gave in and I don't see them when I log in any more. It's a real pain if you literally aren't connected to the internet, but if you just don't log in because you don't use connect, then logging in that first time is an easy fix.

  • Ugh, I apparently haven't been checking connect status regularly enough. I just found that I have purchased a bunch of these items. I really hate that it's not a lot more obvious, because several were bought too long ago to return. I guess that's what I get for waiting until right before I go to bed to finalize my purchases. I just hope that these things don't start tricking back in once the holidays are over. Either do it for real so those of us who don't want it can shop elsewhere, or give up on it. Sneaking a few in here or there seems a bit dishonest to me. Especially when you have these crazy sales where you get a lot of stuff at really low prices and don't notice when something doesn't show up right away (not that DIM doesn't do that anyway with some products from time to time...).
