Hey guys,
After speaking with some of you in the forums, it seemed like there was some interest in a product like this. So I decided to try my hand at it. Let me know what you think.
This feature seems to be commonly used by many professionals in the industry, to give that finishing touch of realism...and now will be available to Daz artists as well.

EDIT 6/14/2016:

    A very good idea, if the hair is not too long.

  • SimonJMSimonJM Posts: 5,982

    Nice - good to see there's a reduce lenght dial :)

    Thanks for the input. Would you say the hair is dialed up too long in the promo images?

    Yes and no ... yes it looks a bit longer than I'd use in a render, but you also need to show the range of capabilty of the product!  A 'triptych' of left-facing, head-on and right-facing with short, medium and long variants might be a good idea to show the range?

    Good idea. Something like this perhaps (and with head-on shot as well)?

    Yes, yes, and yes! Insta-buy BTW...

    I imagine it would complicate things a lot, but it would be nice to have zones: Ears, Nose, Forehead, Chin, Cheeks, Temples... Then one slider that controls all of them at once. We could dial the  hair in the various zones in relation to each other, then dial everything down a bit at once, keeping the length relationships between the zones.

    Looking at my own, female, face in the mirror, any hair on my ears or nose is so short I'm not sure it's there. While the hair on my cheeks is quite obvious. And that's why ask about zones.

    Don't want much, do I?

    It DOES have zones. smiley  (Ears, nose, cheeks, and mouth)

    Maybe I should make that clear in the promo images somehow.

    Oh, good. smiley

    A screenshot of all the dials together would show the various zones. Maybe overlaid an image with those settings...

    This is a good idea. I don't usually see peach fuzz on the ears or nose though - so you might nix that? The cheeks for sure though! And DEFINITELY the arms, IMO.

    All in all this is a really cool idea that would give lovely realism to the renders. Very cool! I look forward to seeing the final product. :)

    Yes, just so and if you could show-case the zoning too ... even more wow! :)

    Ears and noses do have peachfuzz, but often it is so subtle that we don't notice it. I think it most cases, the ears and nose could probably be dialed down. But some of the reference images I used did have significant amounts of hair on the ears and nose (see images below);

    The showing of the zones is good, as is the mention of the individual control of them.  This product just keeps getting better!

    Just found the thread; I've been hoping for something like this ever since, well, a really long time...  I've been playing around a bit with LAMH to try to get a similar effect, but a pre-loaded geometry that you can just load and conform would make life a lot easier.

    Fantastic! Great idea! I love that the zones are separated. I also never knew vellus hairs grew on the nose. I had to go look in the mirror and yep, incredibly sparse and faint, but there! XD

    Yes, very helpful. Even better than showing the dials!

  • Ok here is the frontal triptych as requested.

    Let me know if you guys have any other suggestions. You have been very helpful.

    And now I'm going to be a git .. what I meant by the left- and right-facing images was to have them half-turned so you could see the ears/cheeks slightly better, as well as the 'edge' of the nose.

    Since Simon didn't post a picture...

    Sorry so grainy, just a quickie.  I made instances of the character so it would render faster.

    And yes, I know the lighting in mine stinks...  Just the default HDRi.

  • SimonJMSimonJM Posts: 5,982

    Something like that yes, but with the heads turned at around 45 degrees

    Wow! Looks interesting and I could definitely see a need. I've never seen a product similar, either, so I would think there might be a bit of interest.  I know I'll consider getting it when it comes out.

    Ah, ok. I will see what i can do about an angled shot as well (better to have more promos than not enough, right?). Thanks again for all the great input, -P

    If anyone is interested, I put together a YouTube video tutorial for this product (see link below).

    It is currently unlisted, but will be made public once the product goes live;

    Now one of the biggest questions is how well does it fit to skin with wrinkles. That fuzz is one of the more noticable additions to an aging face. Your zones look nicely split between the areas of most fuzz, so the main lines and sags would probably fall between them. But the coutours won't be as tight as shown on the young faces here.

    That is a good question Jodel. In theory, the hair should conform to any morphs of the head, including fine DH morphs like wrinkles. But I haven't actually tested them yet for wrinkles. I'll check that out and get back to you. But as a last resort, you could probably always apply a smoothing modifier if necessary.
