  • Hey Fellas! I introduce myself,Im Ariel and im very new into these lands,Im pretty good at vue,blender and average at daz3d,but first of all I want to congratulate all of you for your illustrations,but the reason why Im writing this is because I want to take part of this sub and make 3d renders too with bryce! and I have a problem,whatever I render takes a lot of time in my computer and it crashes so I can't render big stuff like everybody do here,so thats my question,which requirements are needed to do illustrations in bryce comfortable and without lag and crashes 

    my computer specs are these:

    processor AMD FX (tm)-4130 Quad-Core Processor 3.80 GHz

    Ram 8,00 GB

    Windows 10 Pro

    juanariel - welcome to the Bryce forums, great to hear that you want to go "bryceing". Less great that you experience crashes. Your computer looks great (better than mine, in fact). Rendering takes time but there are often options engaged that make the render crawl but do not enhance the result. It's a bit of learning (I just have a scene in the works that needs almost half an hour, after switching off some options, it finished in 2 and a half minutes). Second, you can select priority: low uses 1 CPU core, normal half of the available ones and high all up to 8. Crashing may be a memory issue. Bryce is still a 32 bit application limited to 2 GB even if you have 16 GB installed. There's a means to make Bryce (and most other 32 bit applications) working with up to around 3.2 GB provided your computer has at least 4 GB of memory. By the way, GPU is not used by Bryce.

    @juanariel666777 : welcome to this forum and glad that you want to jump in.

     

    Horo have perfectly resume the way bryce is working. You can't compare bryce to the other software you've mentioned because they're all 64 bits applications with modern code/engines for the renderer.

     

    Bryce is from quite to very slow even on high end processor like intel skylake 7th generation (I own a i7 7820X and to me, bryce is almost slow).

     

    It depends of the way you want to build your scene, the lightning technics you use and a lot of factors.

     

    The best way to render in bryce is to be patient.

    So, as you can see, with practice, Bryce can easily be compare to Vue for landscape.

    @Ariel: Welcome. Sorry to hear that your Bryce experiences start with crashes. Have you checked the storage use? If you render big scenes with more than around 2,3 GB (guys correct me if I am wrong), than Bryce crashes. There is a little free program available called lla, which gives Bryce access to more storage. Horo made a good tutorial for it. https://horo.ch/docs/video/horo_en.html

    As image-based materials appear to use a lot of memory in Bryce, if you can eliminate them and use procedural Bryce materials in their place when appropriate, that should reduce the memory footprint and thus the chances of crashing.

    It can also be a good idea to frequently save your work as a new file, so that if Bryce does crash, or if the scene can no longer be opened, you can revert to the previous version without loosing any significant work.  I make a habit of always clicking save before I use instancing.

    If you decide to try LAA  (Large Address Aware), here are installation instructions:

        Large Address Aware: (after installing Bryce, to allow access to additional memory.)
        Unzip laa_2_0_4.zip to a temporary folder and Run "Large Address Aware.exe".  In the first window, click the "..." button and paste the location of the Bryce executable (for me it's at "C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\Bryce7\Bryce.exe") into the BOTTOM filename field, then press the Open button.   Check the "Step 2" checkbox, then press the Save button, then Exit.
        Delete the unzipped folder with the settings.save that got written to it.

    Here are some new ones I made.

    First is made with part of the free urban streets of tomorrow set: https://sfman.deviantart.com/art/Free-for-DAZ-Urban-Streets-Of-Tomorrow-by-sfman-723531345. I tried to send the whole set from DAZ to Bryce, but that made it crash due to 'out of memory', probably due to the textures. So I decided to send only parts.

    Second started as a simple triple terrain, then I added the Big Cave and another terrain, as well as a the bats from DNA_scatter and the Lumberjack on a horse as well. Light from the sun, and a HDRI (dark sunset).

    Thank you Mermaid010 and everyone for the lovely comments! StewartB, I would love to find a copy of Elfont. The text does not really send me far in the artwork I created but that is not Photoshop's fault but mine for not trying other fonts and colors for the fonts. I need to install more styles and use better colors I think. :)

    Hansmar - thank you. Great urban scene. I like the one with the bats. Those buggers are much bigger than the ones we have here flying around in summer.

    RexRed - Elefont isn't available at armanisoft anymore. Perhaps the author (Armin Müller) thinks it's too old (1998) though it runs fine on my 64 bit Win7.

    Horo – nice experiments with foliage translucency.  The flat watery region is awesome, love the lighting.

    Electro-Elvis – beautiful rock render.

    Hansmar – both your renders are very nice, it’s a pity products made especially for Daz don’t have obj files, like the Poser ones.

    RedRex – I agree with Adbc nice fiery sky. The "Norge Village" is also nice. I have Elefont but Photoshop is more flexible (example attached).

    Mermaid - thank you. Your logo is nicely presented with this backdrop.

    Another triple stacked terrain, a BTO tree trice instanced and a sky from the Sky Toolbox. The birds are from Clarence Tippetts (long not seen here).

    Horo, adbc, Mermaid010: thanks. I agree with you, Mermaid. A pity that DAZ things are sometimes so difficult to use in Bryce. The full set of urban streets is really amazing. I recommend all who have an interest in urban renders to look at it.

    RexRed: strong, energetic sky. Of course it is the future: wireless transmission of high voltage energy! And a very nice Norge view, with fjord and stave church. Did you make that stave church yourself?

    Mermaid010: wonderful logo.

    Horo: As we are used too, but still have not seen enough: wonderful landscape. I do wish you would use other elements than only terrains more often. They (like the trees and birds in this one) give live to the scene. The sky is spectacular and the lighting very well done.

    Here's a new one: "Creatures in the hall". The hall is The Alchemy Chasm (here at DAZ). We see RDNA Greyling with the Ghostly Alien texture, the cockroach from Poser and the Eastern Dragon from DAZ. The hall is intentionally dark, but I added some lights in recesses and spotlights on Greyling and cockroach. Hope you like it.

    Super, Hansmar...very imaginitve (I wonder if moving the camera everso slighlty upwards so as not to clash with the ground-level of the wonderful background doorway might give further distance/depth/perspective?).

    Hansmar - thank you. Great use of Alchemy Chasm, long time I've used it myself. I agree with Jay about the camera position.

    S Ray - very cool work, everything looks perfect.

    Simple terrain with a simple material, a cube with volume material for the grainfield and an Arbaro tree. Lit by the sun, an HDRI and a distant light.

    Very nice wavy text Mermaid. I didn't know Photoshop could do that with text! Excellent technique!

    Horo, I like the haze on your distant landscape and the sun illuminates the trees in a truly vibrant and refreshing way!

    Hansmar your Creatures in the Hall reminds me of a Tomb Raider game I played, and the city scene is very game-like also!

    S Ray your wall of don’ts looks more a like a shelf of do's... nice scene.

    And I like the font program EleFont, fast and easy; Many thanks StuartB! 

    I have been rendering these pieces with an Intel I9 12 core 24 thread PC I just got with Win 10. 

    It is the first time I have been able to see some of them rendered other than tiny.

    I need to set up a Facebook page soon to host my images then I will be linking them here too.

    Horo, from my point of view, this is a very artistic work, despite the minimalism. My only point is that the left edge of the wheat field is too high. To avoid this, you could use a sphere compressed in Y instead of a cube. In this case, the wheat spikelets will be lower at the edge of the field, which is more natural.
