Here's a pro tip for using Mec4D's Iray hair shaders (Unshaven 2) with LAMH:

Ctrl-apply the Snow White shader (preserve texture maps). Put the diffuse map in the translucency, too.

Change the diffuse color to Value 220, the translucency color to Value 255.

This brings over the fur/hair coloration really well.

    Examples:

    http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Dragon-and-fox-591574063

    http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/Wolves-in-a-dungeon-591488339

    Thank you. Great looking examples

  • Hi everyone,

So LAMH is known to crash with parented items, but should it crash when growing stuff on "oldschool" hair caps that are cr2 figures _conformed_ to V4?

    Alessandro,

Some more hard-core, bear cub action.

Is there any way to apply the LAMH shaders directly to some other product, like Unshaven 2?

It'd be nice if you could, so that there's some consistency of appearance.

  • Hi there

I've just started using the LAMH player with presets taken from the furry website. And I am having difficulties. Fatal error difficulties. The first thing is how it crashes just as you touch the load preset button. So I no longer do that in a full scene because...hello, hadn't saved it! Cursing ensued. The second thing is is trying to move an item witha preset attached. More cursing. Am I then to assume that one only applies a preset when you have just opened up DS, there is nothing else in the scene but the item you want furry, that the item is in exactly the place you want it in your scene and is posed to your requirements? Cos that's a bit harsh and not really workable. I started this process because I wanted to buy the full product but if I spend all my time swearing at the computer it's not going to be a good purchase. Some assistance would be appreciated. PS: Windows 7 Pro, DS 4.8.

  • Apropro of my previous post. After some faffing around I got a workable solution thogh I don't know whether it's the right one. I attached only the group obj to the item (it happens to be a rabbit) and deleted the rest of what LAMH imports in DS. I can now do rabbit somersaults and not crash DS.

Do not parent the LAMH preset to the item.  It will follow on its own.  Leave the preset in the lowest level of the scene.  Also, the Player does not support rendering in Iray, only 3Delight.  To use Iray with the player requires more steps to output and OBJ and imprt that.

I'm not sure they would give the same results unfortunately - the fibermesh geometry is, well, mesh, but the LAMH Renderman hair is made out of "curve primitives".

On a side note, is it possible to save a scene with a LAMH asset in it that has non-LAMH shaders applied, and have this scene later load with the custom non-LAMH shaders?

    In answer to both questions:

    1) the LAMH internal shaders are indeed internal, and apply to the splines and their properties.  They would not be of much help for geometry, IMO.  Alex may disagree.

    2) There is currently a bug that makes custom applied shaders saved via .duf "disappear".  It is long overdue (blame me), but there is an update for LAMH on the way.  One of the fixes is for this issue.

  • Great to hear a fix is planned, Kendall, thank you for replying.

    Hi Kendall

Thank you for the advice, I will try it tomorrow. I did get a sort of fix by exporting the hair and parenting the obj only to the item. It worked for the Lyne's rabbit preset which turned into a were-rabbit if the rabbit was resized down and the preset applied. The obj resized properly and no were-rabbit ensued. I am using 3DL so the player will be fine until I get the full plugin. Once again, thanks for the advice,

Scaling down dramatically after application of the preset can be a problem with some items.  There are technical issues involved, but your solution is sort of a solution.  The LAMH preset has a specific length set to the hairs by the person who created the preset. The Free Player does not give you the option to change the length to match like the full version does.

  • Hi!

I recently downloaded the Look At My Hair Player to test out the presets for it, especially the millennium cat one thats available and ooks lovely in the presets page on the furrythings website. Unfortunately I don't have enough money to spend to get the actuall Look A My Hair plugin, but hope i will someday soon.

Now as I downloaded the cat fur preset, found here: http://www.furrythings.com/presets/ and applied it to my cat model, i noticed it doesnt quite look the same as in the thumbnail, because the fur hairs were too few, but I managed to figure out how to solve it by adding more hair which was great. But another issue I haven't been able to fix is, that it leaves some patches on the face without fur, and it looks a little bit strange.

I attached an image of a render I did to show what I mean.

Is there anything I can do to make it look better without having the actual Look At My Hair plugin?

    Thanks for any help! :)

I assume that is an Iray render?

  • No thats actually 3Delight as the fur wouldn't render in Iray for some reason, I think I just don't know what settings I should tinker with in order to make it work in the iray renderer. :)

Ok! To render in Iray you first have to convert the LAMH hair to .OBJ (there is a button to click for that, in the LAMH pane). About the specific issue on the cat preset you are using, I'd try to increase the hair count and use a better lighting, with some Ambient Occlusion, so that hair roots blend better with the underlying model geometry and show less discontinuity between areas with and without hair. There where you see no hair, it's because the preset is using a density map that is blank on areas around the nose etc.

  • Okay, thank you for your help! I will test your tips and see how it goes.

  • I had LAMH on my computer and it was working fine. I recently ended up Erasing/uninstalling everything, re-installing DAZ and now I can't find my LAMH. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it several times, and no tab shows up in Create or in the Window Panes. I even re-installed it from my product page. My serial number shows up on DAZ3D.com, but the reinstall doesn't ask for it and it doesn't show up in plug-ins, so, apparently it's not ACTUALLY installing.  Win10/64. Thanks!

Look in "c:/Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4/plugins".  You should see both a lamhPlugin.64.dll file as well as a folder called lookatmyhairAM.  If these aren't there, then it didn't get installed.  If they are, then there is likely a problem with your DAZ Studio environment.  In that case, try reselecting your "style" in the WIndow->Style menu. That may reset the menus for your DS and make it appear.

    Kendall

  • There are both there in the place you specified. I'll try the change style.

Okay, changed the style and the workspace, still nothing. I added a directory path in the database manager to point to that folder to see if that would help, nothing. And as I said, both the folder and the .dll are in the right place.

    Thanks.

It wasn't. Allessandro has been helping too. I think I fixed it now. He had a question about whether I installed to the normal paths. I checked and I had a Studio and a Studio4, so I copied the files from the Studio4 plugin area and pasted them to the Studio plugin area (Which also had the Look at me Hair folder, but not IN the plugin folder itself) Now, it is coming up and i just have to re-register it to activate.  Thank you!

Which version are you trying to use (Free player or the full plugin)?  If you had the player installed and want to install the full version, you must first uninstall the player.  Then you can install the full plugin.

The menu in screenshot that you have above is showing the free player.  So that is showing that the free player dll is in the plugins folder for that install of DS.  Delete the player dll and then install the full again.
