You are probably correct. :) But we are still gonna discuss it.
Well, it is June, and it has been two years since Victoria 7 was released...
I've just realized what my strategy for purchasing G4 figures/characters/utilities/wardrobe/poses is going to be... Wait two years until G5 is, (presumably,) imminent and clean up with the stack up sales. Oh, and grab any figure that Daz makes free with a qualifying purchase, assuming the qualifying product isn't specifically for G4...
In case it isn't obvious, I'm one of the many who aren't the least bit excited about a possible G4 release this month.

¡Ay, Cristo! very bad news, horrible bad news. RIP D3D, QEPD.
It does. FWIW, I'd bought almost no G3 stuff that wasn't PC until it started showing up with deep discounts, and I'll do the same with G4/V8/M8 if and when they appear. I'm very much in agreement with the "re-investing" comment upthread; I buy a lot here at DAZ, but I just can't afford to do that every couple or three years.
If we get great creature and manga-style morphs I will happily hand over my wallet. If we get interesting outfits that cover most of the body with shoes/boots that women can actually run in, I will considering buying next Gen stuff, especially if there's a clothing converter available. If it's the usual boob-window mid-drift shirts with pants that barely cover the crotch and 5' stilletos ... well, I have other hobbies to spend my money on.
On the bright side, no one is forced to upgrade to the newest figure. Its always a choice. I stayed with Aiko 3 for 9 years before I moved on to Genesis 2 & 3.
Regretably the entire Daz content Business Model is dependant upon the emotionally based ,impulsive ,ooooh Me too, Mutual validation frenzy to keep the sales volume high enough to support the development of the Freeware application in which said content is used.
It is a classic "Loss leader" business model.
Daz studio is like the free bowl of salty peanuts,at your local bar.
After eating the free peanuts people develop a thirst for drinks.
After a while the patrons thirst becomes quenched and everyone is equally Drunk.
So you have to resort to increasingly imaginative Promotions& gimmicks to get them to continue buying Drinks with fancy named and numbered Drink"bundles",Louder music, sexy scantily dressed bar servers etc etc.
All designed to make you forget that the "new" drinks are essentially made of the same core components gin, tonic burbon, scotch etc.as the "old" Drinks
But you are "forced" to repurchase them because they are being served in a slightly different glass.
Why "regrettably"? :)
When you think about it, just about every business model is "... dependant upon the emotionally based ,impulsive ,ooooh Me too, Mutual validation frenzy", isn't it?
When you think about it, how many of us really need the latest fancy technology from Apple, and honestly, how much better is it than the last versions? And how much rational difference is there between makes and models of the latest cars for the last decades? And so on...
Most buying decisions, along with just about anything else for us humans, is emotional, impulsive, and fairly irrational, IMO.
How many of us really need a smartphone and tablet and laptop and computer games and all the other technology we can't live without? It's not about rational, it's about emotional and excitement and fun.
But on the bright side, all that emotional frenzy is what makes people buy things and economies grow. And with companies like DAZ, it allows them to give us free software. Why is that a bad thing? At some point, everyone (you and me included) need to make money to survive.
Sorry for the soapbox, but I just got done reading some comments on the Blender guy's youtube complaining that his excellent (and free) tutorial videos (which he probably spends days and days working on) dare to mention the products he's selling. They actually expect him to do everything for them for free, and get upset when he dares to make income.
Strange...
Indeed, our entire consumption based economy is based on appealing to emotional needs rather than practical needs.
It is regrettable in my view because the alleged "prosperity"in such economies is a false prosperity and highly
subject to hyper inflated "bubbles"and emotion driven downturns and ultimately unsustainable.
Such was the case with emotion based housing bubble that precipitated the massive upheaval in 2008.
Oh I agree with your disdain for such self entitled people.
I dont Chagrin Daz making money with a loss leader business model.
It is just that the rigidly logical left brain side of me is very skeptical of any undertaking dependant upon the emotional state of other humans.
Let's not get into general political economy, please.
Sorry...
In any case, regarding Victoria 8, I'm trying to imagine what they could do to make it significantly better than the Genesis 3 characters. I mean the realistic and detailed body shapes, the incredibly realistic skin materials that are available... Compared to the much older V4 and M4 characters it's a world of difference IMO.
I suppose it would be nice to have some more expressive facial morphs out of the box, because the available morphs seem pretty limited. Even with some of the commercial morphs I find my self wanting more.
The other thing I'd love to see is a more functional "Point At" for the head, etc. As far as I can tell you need to build a little custom rig to get the face to point at something. But other than that I'm pretty happy with the G3's.
Now if they could integrate VWD and Light Manager Pro into Studio I'd be thrilled. Especially VWD, which I love. It would be great if it was fully integrated, and you didn't have to export figures into VWD, you could just click a button in the existing scene and do your sim.
I think they could really improve expressions on both genders a lot. More collision morphs and gravity morphs. Eyebrows which are separate. Finger joints. Clothing which fits better around areas like the chest
They could make gen 8 female easier to design clothing for and improve skin settings. Hairlines and rooted hair and scalp would be nice.
for men the shoulder area is an issue, hands could get more articulation.
Well, I can not see buying more than the barebones morph sets & Girl/Guy products unless the most current and most widely to be adapted dynamic hair/muscle/fat/clothing modeling technology and algorithms are adapted as well as much more expressive faces capable of wrinkling and moving in the right places is part of Genesis 8. Those Genesis 8 models need plastic faces like Lucille Ball had. Anything short of that it's a just a minor upgrade that's not worth investing in once you own a base library of similar figures.
DAZ 3D has seen what AMD and Intel and nVidia are sending down the pipes for consumer use in the not too distant future. They've seen what Unity, Otoy, and UE4 to name just 3 are doing. It's not valid anymore to say 'but no typical consumer will have the needed computer power at their disposal'. Not only will PC and Apple Mac owners have that compute power, it won't follow too long before tablet and smartphone owners have that computer power.
For clothing fitting, I've been pretty successful using a mix of the really nice Collision Iterations in D|S to eliminate poke-thru and make the clothing conform better, and VWD for making it look much more natural. And you haven't lived until you've used the "Scale" feature in VWD to basically "shrink wrap" clothing on the character. It makes a HUGE difference, IMO. Especially areas like the chest/cleavage, it will make the clothing stretch across the area.
The posting on Facebook says the new genesis 8 figures are coming June 20th.. I assume it meant to say Victoria 8
+1
#1 It's really hard to justify investing $$ into new figures unless backwards-compatability is really, really smooth as butter. I still have a ton of stuff that doesn't play well with G3, so I dunno about compounding my problems by further segmenting all of my assets by adding G8.
#2 Software I use in my workflow is just now starting to adapt to G3. Investing in G8 just to have to wait for three years to figure ways to use it in other software seems a no-go to me. If it's made in such a way to allow other software to incorporate G8 seamlessly, I'm in. But if I can't use it right now, out of the box, in other software, without endlessly tweaking and adjusting, I'm not going to bother.
#3 Frankly, G3 are pretty awesome figures. Unless it's something like seamless integration in other software, I can't figure what they could offer that would be appealing. It's going to be hard to be leaps and bounds more realistic, and I don't really need more toe bones. What's the hook here?
I know we have this conversation with every new iteration, but there have been some really important advances in the past. Like, the original Genesis was a total game-changer for me. Throwing out a new set of figures, 'just cuz' doesn't really do it for me, though.
Probably not — remember, it's possible to have character sets for the Genesis base figure that don't need the Victoria/Michael character. And I'm fairly sure the last couple of Genesis generations came out a month or three before any of the "big name" characters. The head and body morph packs are more important, if they come out at the same time as the base, then at least we've got a bit of flexibility to play around with.
This was apparently incorrect information (according to DAZ_Steve) from an error from a third party scheduling service they were using. More info can be found here:

I seriously doubt that they are jumping from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8.....
I think it would make sense to sync up the number in Genesis 8 with Victoria/Michael 8.
Companies don't always name their products in linear order and skip numbers when it makes sense.
And Stephanie jumped from just plain old Stephanie to Stephanie 3 Petite ;). David in his first incarnation was David 3 (because Mike and Vicky at the time were in Generation 3). So Daz HAS renumbered a figure before ;).

The number one reason Autodesk MotionBuilder is such a powerful
powerful Character animation program is that uses a standardized
"HumanIK" rig.
The number one reason Reallusion Iclone Pro is such a powerful
powerful Character animation program is that uses a standardized
"HumanIK" rig.
The number one reason People are starting to take Daz studio seriously
as a Character animation program is that ,up until genesis3 ,Daz had its own standardized
IK/FK rig for easy retargeting of Character motion Data from outside sources(Mixamo,Iclone etc).
If Genesis4 is comes with yet another pointelessly exotic Rig
with useless extra limb bones that increased functionality for no one
from the casual Daz hobbyist to the Serious Animators( whom it actually impeded).
and Breaks compatibilty with Iclone.... yet again
Breaks compatibilty with Motion builder...... yet again.
Then Daz will have Further alienated a potentially market expanding userbase.
The "pointless" bones are needed, as I think I have pointed out before, because using a single weight map for each bone means that twists (spread along the length of the limb) and bends (at the hinge point) have separate requirements. This is how other engines I've seen handle bends, though I am not familiar with iClone or Motion Builder.
It would be wonderful to see V8 out tomorrow. It is the second Tuesday of the month. Fingers crossed...
Well, I don't see why DAZ couldn't write an exporter to export 'standard HumanIK rig format' for MotionBuilder, iClone, and so on and another export format that includes all the DAZ technical embellishments.
It's time AutoDesk, iClone, Unity and others also improve what their rigs can do although I expect it from Unity before the others.
I don't want stuck exporting to FBX2006 or whatever that old 'standard' is while DIsney and others move on to more advanced techniques. Learning animation is difficult enough without having to stick to antiquated techniques.
That said, DAZ 3D needs to step up and make their new technical models work in DAZ Studio and Carrara 1st of all.
It sounds like you're running out of items to buy.![cheeky cheeky](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/tongue_smile.png)
I am almost certain that I saw a tweet on the @Daz3D Twitter account just the other day, teasing the forthcoming release of Genesis 4.
It's not there now, which means one of two things.
I realize that if (2) is the case, DAZ may have their own good reasons for not wanting to spill the beans just yet. Still, I'd appreciate if anyone else who saw it too could let me know, so that I don't have to wonder about my own sanity.

Ah, good. So I'm not seeing things after all.
Well, except for the giant polka-dotted bunnies. I mean, I'm pretty sure that they're hallucinations, but they'll probably go away once I get the dosage right. And if they're not hallucinations, that's cool too. They seem friendly, and they're rather decorative.
