Hi. It will convert expressions that make use of the pose/expressions dials on the figure. However, since Genesis 3 and 8 have different naming conventions on some of those morphs, those which are not named the same will not dial in, so there will be differences on certain expressions where that occurs. For example on Genesis 3 a nose morph is called nostril flare, but on genesis it is called nostril flex. So any expression that makes use of nostril flare will not trigger that morph on Genesis 8, since it does not exist. So when that happens, that is the only time you will see differences in the expressions. So in theory, converting expressions is kind of pointless because you can just directly apply the G3 expression on g8 and will work the same as it being converted.
Expressions that do not make use of the pose dials on the figure will not work, since that falls more under morph conversion territory, which is not what this product is designed to do.
Look at this example. I used an expression with a missing mouth morph (or differently named) so you can see what issues there could be. You will also see that a converted expression works the same as directly applied without converting.
I'm trying to convert the SciFi Cockpit Interior Poses (SKU 39463) using the G3 to G8 pose convertor. The resulting poses produce this error in the log file when applied to the base G8 male:
2019-06-03 17:45:38.614 C:/Users/knight/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library/People/Genesis 8 Male/Poses/Scifi Cockpit Poses/GoTo/SC Mission Brief Him.duf (3,0): Illegal new-line in string
2019-06-03 17:45:38.614 Error reading file, see log for more details.
This might be a line spliting problem as the end of the line has a brace ('{') then four tabs and "url followed by a new line. None of the lines are longer than 1000 characters, so I'm guessing this may be a limit, although I don't know if it's imposed by Studio or the script.
I can further add that if I apply the source poses to a G3 figure and save it as a Pose Preset of my own, the G3 to G8 pose convertor works without a problem, at least on my first three test cases.
DAZ Studio Pro 4.10.0.123, Windows
Have been using converter without any problem for a while now. But am trying to convert i3 Newsroom poses (path G:/My DAZ Connect Library/data/cloud/1_24015/environments/i13/news room/poses/use anywhere poses/i13ns bullpen set 01 g3f m.duf ) using technique of selecting in Smart Content and then running script from Scripts in DS menu bar. When attempting to convert the file, I get the error that file must be in a mapped directory to convert properly. Never seen that before. What does it mean? The Newsroom product seems to work properly in DS. Thanks (in advance).
Never mind, got it to work. Maybe you have a path length problem, because the DAZ Connect paths tend to be long. I copied everything into another directory with a short path and added that directory to Daz Studio Formats in Content Directory Manager, then added the entire directory using the converter script and converted all the poses at once. Worked fine.
I'm having the same problem as Knight trying to convert the SciFi Cockpit Interior Poses (SKU 39463) using the G3 to G8 pose converter. This problem only occurs with the SciFi Cockpit poses since I had no problem converting the i13 Executive Poses (SKU 32957) using the same converter in the same DAZ Studio version. The path lengths of the i13 Executive Poses files are even longer than those of the SciFi Cockpit pose files. I'm currently following the workaround suggestion provided by Knight to convert the Scifi Cockpit poses from G3 to G8: applying the source poses to a G3 figure and save it as a Pose Preset of my own, then run the G3 to G8 pose converter. Unfortunately I do not know how to set up a batch script that can apply all the source poses to the G3 figure and save them all as Pose Presets. Currently I'm doing this manually, one pose at a time. It's a bit time consuming. Any tips you can provide to help speed up this process will be much appreciated. DAZ Studio 4.11.0.383 Pro.
As I am *not* a coder or a scripter, I was curious why creating metadata takes so long and if there was anything that might be done to speed it up.
So... not complaining, just curious: what causes the creation of metadata to be so slow? As an example, I just attempted to batch convert Zeddicus' Alone for Valentine's Day poses. I started the program running and took my dog for a walk. When I got back, it had converted three files in an hour and nine minutes. I stopped the conversion and told it to convert the rest without metadata and it completed the process in less than fifteen seconds.
Several thoughts: does the fact that DAZ is necessarily on when it creates metadata force the addon to slow down? Could adjusting the addon to work as a stand-alone program speed it up? Could the creation of metadata be made into a background process that runs separately from the file converter?
Just reiterating that I am basically a clueless lay person, so I have no idea if either of these ideas are in any way practical or, if implemented, would be at all effective, but I would dearly love to see this functionality made more useful.
Hi, where do I find the converted poses after I have conveted them?
Hi Zev0,
I'm relatively new to Daz Studio and recently bought the pose converters for (1) V4 to G1/G2, (2) G2 to G3, and (3) G3 to G8. I wanted to apply the 3 pose converters to convert certain V4/M4 poses (that I acquired from a third party vendor) to G8.
However, after converting the converted G2 poses (from V4 & M4) to G3, I got a message saying I sould use the zforearm unblocker before using any converted poses. I dont know how to use the unblocker because it just gives me an error message when i click on it.
Can I use the G3 to G8 pose converter without using the unblocker? If I need to use the unblocker, how do I even get it to run?
If I want to batch convert every G3 pose I can locate, and I create/assign an output folder (let's say "Converted Poses G3-G8"), does the converter create within "Converted Poses G3-G8" a new folder for each commercial package of poses I convert?
For instance, if one of the folders I select to batch convert is in My 3D Library>People>Genesis 8 Male>Poses>4D Pretzel Poses, will there be a separate "4D Pretzel Poses" folder inside "Converted Poses G3-G8"? And if so, will it be in that folder's root directory, not in a similar folder heirarchy to the original poses?
Great. Thanks very much.
(And thank you for your gracious kindness in overlooking my rushed-typing stupidity of putting "People>Genesis 8 Male>Poses>" in my convert-from example path. Of course it should have said Genesis 3 for my example to make any sense. Someone was waiting in the car for me while I was dashing that off, and the minute I got in and closed the door, I smacked my head, certain I had done just that. It was an "did I leave the iron on?" moment. I see I did.)
Your products are indispensable tools, and your patient customer service is a model to be admired.
I purchased many clothing converters and had no problems using them. With this https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-to-genesis-8-pose-converter I can't use it because in addition to 4 introductory photos there are no detailed explanations on the product. Isn't there a video that explains how to use it? thanks
The first internal promo image explains all you need to know. Choose directory where you want your converted poses to go, then choose what poses or sets to convert and done. Don't know how simpler I can make that explanation. What aspect do you not understand?
the first photo is not very clear. I have other converter, clothing and iray scripts that explain the process step by step. I was hoping to find a pdf or video tutorial that explains how to use it. This is incorrect
Not very clear in what way? You still have not told me what part do you not understand or what difficulty you are having. I only add a tutorial if I feel the product is complex enough to warrant one. This is kind of straight forward. So until you tell me what part you do not understand I cannot help you.
Also the other scripts, the pose corrector, how do you use it? Do I have to guess?
If you don't understand you can ask here. The Pose Corrector is used only when you want to directly apply a Genesis 3 pose to genesis 8. If you do that it will not look right if you choose not to do a conversion of the pose. The pose corrector will fix that pose. On that script you can choose what to fix or leave unchanged. This option is for those who don't feel like converting the pose and just want to apply it to G8 and correct it without having a converted version of it.
The iray converter is simpler than this, it is very intuitive and although it contained a tutorial I didn't need it. But I can understand that maybe others may have difficulties. It cannot be taken for granted that we are all experienced or intuitive. Every self-respecting product on sale has a small guide that explains how to use it. I also purchased many billboards that work with scripts and all of them had a guide. Now a user on the forum has helped me, but I don't know once I have converted the poses, there are hundreds of them, in which folder I find them. the script has been going for almost an hour, I don't know if this is normal. In addition, you must also understand that not all of us are native English speakers
You still have not told me what problem you are experiencing or do not understand about the product.
The problem is simple: I had to ask around to help me because there was no guide on the product besides the promotional photo. But what I mean is that it shouldn't be necessary to ask how to use a product, the guide should be part of the package. it is the first time this has happened to me
Product has a product support icon for a reason which directs you to this thread. You could have just asked here if you did not understand anything.
Is it possible to apply this to animations?
Hello All!
I have scanned though the 9 pages but didn't see this addressed(unless I missed it!) Is there a way to strip the translation info from the converted poses? A lot of poses move the figure to Zero, which is a real pain especially if your character is somewhere other than Zero in a large environment.
You are not alone. This has plagued many a soul who came before—whether a pose has been converted or not. The tip I was given in another thread was to hold down the Ctrl key (Command key on a Mac) when applying a pose. That brings up a window with a number of options you can select (or deselect, as the case may be), one being allowing translation of the character's location.
Someone else said: "you can also just hit the lock on any Figure's Translations, Rotations, Scale, etc. right in the Parameter Pane so that you can try multiple poses without having to go through the Crtl-Click Dialog every time you select a pose."
Here is a thread where all that was discussed: Force commercial poses to pose-in-place?
I am having the issue of errors popping up from converted poses and not sure why, but it is aggravating as it seems that some poses will work while others won't..
These are the type of error I get for many of the poses in this pose set..

Well found a round about way of fixing my problem, was to use the original Genesis 3 pose on Genesis 8 and then use the corrector script.. It is long winded but right now only way to get around these errors..
Who is the set made by?
It is this product https://www.daz3d.com/sleeping-and-napping-for-genesis-3-female it is a Daz Original / Three Wishes product..
Thanks. We will see why it doesn't want to transfer. Will probably need to update it to realize new logic. It is hard to accomodate all methods some people use to make poses. Some add custom script logic in the pose files and others just save them out whacky which confuses the script.
