    ANNOUNCING THIS MONTH'S GRAND PRIZE

We could only hint at this until now, but the Grand Prize for the winner of the April Freebie Challenge has arrived.

Feast your eyes on Da Real Man's sea-going (or at least East River-going) home away from home, an awesome HOUSEBOAT created on request specifically for this month's Freebie Challenge by DocMikeB, one of the best 3D modellers in the business and one of the Shifter Brothers behind Shifters Evolution at Dreamslayer Artworks:
    http://www.dreamslayerartworks.com/eastwing/index.php

This is a highly detailed model made for Poser that also works great in DAZ Studio. And for the foreseeable future at least, it's AVAILABLE NOWHERE ELSE.

Terrific texturing throughout, from the wall panels to the curtained windows for and aft and portholes port and starboard.

Out on the deck under a jaunty striped canopy are a rocking chair and a crate and a barrel where Louie keeps God knows what. The front entrance is a three-panel hinged folding door.

Inside is a KITCHENETTE with gas range, fridge, counter, dining table and chairs, kettle, wood stove and overhead fan; a SLEEPING AREA with two beds, ornate carved wardrobe, bookshelf and beautiful paintings on the walls; and a BATHROOM with shower, sink, mirror, toilet, cabinet and first-aid cabinet.

Lord Ganthor and I extend our heartfelt thanks to Mike for building this incredible model in a bid to help keep up interest in the monthly Freebie Challenge.

April has thus far seen ONLY SEVEN ENTRIES, despite generous cash prizes on offer from Jaderail and DAZ itself, a really great texture set from Celebi, a useful (and possibly dangerous) kitchen rolling pin from Krissy, plus Ganthor's first freebie, a handy-dandy model room suitable for getting into all sorts of trouble.

Still a week and a bit to go, folks, so LET'S SEE SOME MORE ENTRIES!

What Dorsy said. Get off ya patooties and get ta rendering ya galoots.

Well I WOULD have another render BUT I can't get the lamp to render without crashing and it is somewhat needed in my image. I wish that I could wrap my head around the process of making surfaces emit light.

I can't help you with light-emitting surfaces, Chameleon -- hopefully someone else will -- but I don't understand why a lamp light would be crashing your program.

You DO know the old trick of placing two point lights over a lamp, right? One right in or against the lamp from the viewer's point of view, and the other just a little closer, lined up. Not sure that's what you're going for, but it's a nice effect.

    yep thats what crashed it...

And why would it? Because my computer hates me with a passion...

    What program you use?
If poser, you can just 1. add a point light into the light, adjust the end distance to low and give it warm color
or 2. put a ball in it, and give it an ambient of a glow color, ( In Material room, change ambient color and put in a value, which you want) uncheck "visible in camera" in properties

    "Play time"

In loving memory of my cat who passed away unexpectedly in late January. He loved to balance on his back and sleep or play (mostly sleep).

That IS a beauty, Smoke! Can you please confirm if it's an entry in the MINI CONTEST?

MINI CONTEST has about half a day still to go before it ends, so still time to show us your REAL PETS.

Some lovely painting props awaiting the three winners.

If it's okay to enter it, then I guess it can be considered an "official" entry. It was just something I wanted to share. Thanks for the comments.

So it seems, but that's okay...I'm a dedicated cat person myself. In fact, I've got 6 sleeping around the house right now. Four of them belong here and the two neighbor cats come over to visit, eat, use the litter box and sack out...and they live next door!

The houseboat is a beautiful site to behold and will make the winner of this month's contest very lucky indeed. I would like to extend my own personal thanks to DocMikeB for this wonderful gift (and kudos to Dorsey as well for shepherding this project along). However, I'm a little dismayed at, as Dorsey pointed out, we only have seven entrees this month? Maybe we'll set the record for having the least amount of entries in a monthly challenge! When we do this again next April we can run that across the bottom of the banner as an advertizing pull! Okay, just kidding...I know how Real Life can get in the way of fun...believe me, I know...just look at my work schedule...but never the less, I'd like to thank everyone here for their efforts and their support. Believe me, this hasn't turned out like I hoped it would and if I (or we) ever do this again, it'll be more exciting. Now, if you'll excuse me...I'm gonna go take a nap so I can get ready for another 60 hour week...

Yes. I know. Since you can't see the morph or the shoes they can't be counted.

Brownie Points to whoever can guess what I was listening to when I started this.

Oh look at how she listens
She says nothing of what she thinks
She just goes stumbling through her memories
    Staring out onto Grey Street
    But she thinks hey
How did I come to this
I dreamed myself a thousand times around the world
But I can't get out of this place

    There's an emptiness inside her
And she'd do anything to fill it in
But all the colors mix together
To grey, and it breaks her heart

Oh how she wishes it was different
She prays to God most every night
And though she swears He doesn't listen
There's still a hope in her He might
    She says I pray
But oh that they fall on deaf ears
Am I supposed to take it on myself
To get out of this place

Oh there's a loneliness inside her
And she'd do anything to fill it in
And though it's red blood bleeding from her now,
It feels like cold blue ice in her heart
When all the colors mix together
To grey, and it breaks her heart

There's a stranger speaks outside her door
Says take what you can from your dreams
Make them as real as anything
Oh it'd take the work out of courage
    But she says please
There's a crazy man that's creeping outside my door
I live on the corner of Grey Street
And the end of the world

Oh there's an emptiness inside her
And she'd do anything to fill it in
And though it's red blood bleeding from her now,
It's more like cold blue ice in her heart
She feels like kicking out all the windows
And setting fire to this life
She could change everything about her
    Using colors bold and bright
But all the colors mix together
To grey, and it breaks her heart
    Oh it breaks her heart
    To grey

I have a friend who is slowly turning me into a DMB fan and said this song was me down to a T.

Thank you, Alexa. We're giving you and your dad an easy time of it this month.

HOWEVER, now that you've gone and updated the gallery, naturally there's ANOTHER one to add -- please find a spot for Chameleon's latest entry.

    :-P

ENTRY #8 from Chameleon2002 and it's VERY NICE, real enough to stir the heart. You seemed to have worked out the lighting no problem, Chameleon. REALLY well done!

I've verified all the links I can, including a search for a fish tank or a Sherman Tank at Daybreak Studios until I realised you meant a TANK TOP! Also, I did NOT know about Cool Tuna, so thank you for that!

COULD SOMEONE PLEASE CHECK the THREE freebie links at Renderosity for me:
    Helena for V4
    Glass Shader
    Moon Light

Meanwhile you have enough working links to qualify, so ...

ENTRY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA -- oh yes it is -- AAAAAC-CEPTED!!!

Well, if it's something derived from the poster on the wall, I have no idea what that is. I read it and at first thought is said something like, "This is the way how you get to Sesame Street".

    But I was wrong. Again!

  • edited December 1969

Dorsey- I love that window seat and it really is nice that it was offered as a freebie.

crap. I could have used a stupid fish tank as the lighting under the art on the wall. I have one. Some days I'm just slow. That and I love that funky lamp.

It is. Grey Street. Dave Matthews Band.

I can confirm that all three links work, Dorseyland!
The link for the glass shaders goes to the catalog page where you can select either the DS3 or DS4.5 version.
The moon light page doesn't say moon light, but it says there are four outdoor lights in the package, so I guess the moon light is one of the four. The paid item link works, too.

Oh,you posted "Dave Matthews Band" after all. I just finished looking up "DMB", think it was going to be something DUMB. But yeah, I do like what little I've heard of Dave Matthews. Not as good as the Andy Warhols, of course.

Now what's this about the window seat? I didn't say anything about that.

This Chameleon kid seems to know what she's doing. I say we reveal the secret handshake and show her where they hide the key to the DAZ store.

ZAMUEL, do a knock-off REAL PET render for the Mini Contest while you've got your 3D machinery throttled up. About 10 hours left to go in that one.
