Daz Studio 4.10 with dForce released October 26th.

A word of caution before you download and install the latest release of Daz Studio: Backup your old files first. Daz will not provide old versions if you need to revert for some reason.

The easiest way to locate the name of all the files you'll need to save is to open the DIM and look through the list of product updates. The Product ID of the new file will be the same as the old, and the files you're looking for will begin with a 10-character identifier beginning with IM and ending with the Product ID. For example, the install file for DAZ Studio will begin with IM00013176. By looking for product updates with "for DAZ Studio 4.10+" in the name, you can locate the IDs of other products and support files that will also be overwritten with the new install. Once you've located the files, copy them to a safe place.

With the files for your current copy of DAZ Studio safely archived, installing the new version should be a bit less stressful.

And I expect you're going to have a blast playing with dForce.

Is the beta version also overwriting existing files in 4.8?

I would if I could find how to apply it :D

The HowTo here https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/203081 says that the option can be found in Edit->Object(or Figure)->Geometry but all I have is what you can see in the attached image :( (I can't find it neither in the other possible location in the Scene option menu)

Am I the only one in this case? Did I miss some package install (I got the 4.10 and the dForce Starter Essential)? Am I blind or something?

If someone have an idea I'd be really grateful :)

    Cheers

The beta and the release version will co-exist peacefully. They are in separate folders on the drive. If you are still using the version 4.8 and want to test drive 4.10, installing the beta won't overwrite files on your hard drive. However, 4.8 and Daz Connect (used by 4.9 and up,) use the database differently. Before you install the 4.10 beta, be sure and check out the differences. You can find that information in the Daz Studio Discussion forums.

It sounds like you need to run the Update and Merge Menus script. Open your Content Library and expand (double-click) My DAZ 3D Library, (the DIM Default folder for all things DAZ Studio.) Scroll down to Scripts and expand. Scroll down to Utilities and double-click on the Update and Merge Menus icon to run the script. Now look for the options in the Edit->Object->Geometry menu.

If you haven't done so already, you will need to open the Simulation Settings tab to control the simulation. Click on Window in the top menu. The first entry is Panes (Tabs), click on that and then scroll down the long list until you find Simulation Settings. Click on that to open the dialog window. I recommend docking it to one side or the other of your layout.

And if you have any more questions, please feel free to come back here and ask. We can all muddle through this learning process together.

  • Is there a quick way to go back to an original pose before the dForce simulation is applied?

I'm not sure what you are asking. There is an option to to Start Bones From Memorized Pose. (The Memorized Pose will be your figure with all bones in the zero position, at world center, facing Front.) Whether you use the Timeline or not, with this option on, the simulation will start at the zero pose, simulate to the zero pose for a short time, and then simulate as the figure moves into the target pose.

Is that what you wanted to know?

  • Thank you L'Adair it fixed it!

I can finally test this new feature :)

You're welcome. I was actually using dForce for several days before I stumbled on a post that said to run that script! I had things working, but I was missing a number of menu items.

Does dForce work with existing clothes, or do I have to buy all new ones? (If that's the case, it's near useless for me).

Needed a new driver 388.00 for my NVidia 980TI card but then it worked after some compiling and a some getting used to. And thanx to all who made this possible....and to L'Adair for giving some detailed instructions. Now it works "Greater then ever", with the "Greatest DAZ ever".

Can I ask a dumb question? WTF is it 4.1? Wasn't that version a couple of years ago? Isn't the software convention that it should be Daz 5, since the last version was 4.9? (Then again, we did go from Gensis 3 to Genesis 8, sooooo...)

Four point one zero, not four point one.

Had a quick fiddle with the Simulations Setting controls, with mixed results, as I don't know what I'm doing yet. But it looks very promising. smiley

I always use the Manual Downloads and keep at least the installers for the last three versions of DS just in case.  (DIM won't install DS where I want it to, despite my repeatedly telling it to do so.  I think because I don't have a directory folder above the actual one for Daz Studio)

If you want to remove the simulation's effect, I believe you can:

    • Right click on the Simulation Settings pane's title bar to bring up the Options menu
    • Select the dForce --> Clear dForce Simulation From Selected Item(s) option

Note: I don't have 4.10 yet to actually test this, but I just read about it in this thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/203081 . Hope this helps!

No, it's not the software convention at all. Version number is not a decimal, it's <major version>.<minor version>(.<release>.<build>). So after 4.9 you can perfectly have 4.10 and 4.11 rather than 5.0.

A while back Steve said this year would have exciting developments.

    G8, Dforce, 3d printing... he wasn't kidding!

There's also a 'Clear' button on the Simulation Settings tab.  It's at the top-right of the pane, immediately below the 'Simulate' button.

Also, in the Simulation Settings pane, right under the "Simulate" button is a "Clear" button.

It is supposed to work with existing clothing.  About all I've ever managed to achieve has been an amorphous glob of exploded mesh.

Well, the MFD worked okay, but nothing else has.  I guess I'll download and install, and see if it's stable.  I can always back down to 4.9....
