This is my second G3F model from my list, Amaya for The Girl 7. I had no idea I had her. She came as part of the Girl 7 Pro Bundle which I picked up as an addition when purchasing a G8 Pro Bundle. This is such a great challenge because this is a model I'll now definately use in the future.

Her hair is Margot Hair for Genesis 2 & 3 and she is wearing Skinny Jean Outfit for Genesis 3 Females.

Thanks for the work around. This community is amazing!

Honestly, though, I gave up and requested a refund. Admittedly, i have had a couple of very trying days so my patience is thin and frustration levels are high. I have no hard feelings against the artist. I am disappointed in DAZ and am struggling to not have hard feelings against DAZ for causing the situation by not having those super secret textures for sale on their own.

Plus I've never had trouble typing and right now I can't type without voice recognition. That probably adds to my irritation. That and windows voice recognition kinda sucks.

Keep on being awesome, folks, You are appreciated.

I only have 45 G3F figures (according to Content Library). I'm only really beginning to wean myself off G2F - for which I have a lot of content like expressions that can't be carried forward. Heaven knows when I'll get around to Genesis 8! First ten are:

    • Andie
    • Arabella
    • Bethany
    • Bonnie
    • Brianna
    • Briley
    • Brooke
    • Cailin

@chris-2599934   You have great gals on the list. I had to look up Andie (yep, I have her too) because I love that name. BTW, if folks didn't notice the ship in your signature, they need to check it out. Marvelous!  Do you happen to have any of those gals rendered? :)

So curious- how many of you still use Genesis 2, as Genesis 2 figures and not GenX'd on to Gen3?

  • NovicaNovica Posts: 23,902

Okay, whacky. This morning when people send me PMs, I can read it in the email, but when I click on the link, it goes to the conversation (with the people's names) but everything else is blank. And when I enter from the Inbox, same thing.

@illysart   Just lurk until you feel better. We'll be here (obviously.)  wink

@mollytabby   Amaya always impressed me with her skin, it's so rich in color. And those expressive eyes! Nicely done.

I still use G2F on a regular basis as is, as well as V4.  Although, I am working on moving V4 up to G8.  I'm way behind though, just been too busy. But I like G2F and I joined right before G3F came out so she has a bit of a special place in my heart.  And using anagennesis on them makes the skins look much more realistic.

I still regularly use G2F. One of my favourites in that generation is SI Domina, shown here.

@nath   I really can't tell the difference in yours being a G2 and the G3's. Nice!

I'm going off topic for a weather tidbit page that is absolutely fascinating. Scroll down and read the lightning facts in the illustration. Wow.  A bolt heats the air to FIVE TIMES hotter than the sun's surface??? Ouch. No wonder people get fried when hit.

@chris-2599934  Bonnie looks very secretive, nicely done!  The textures on that purse are awesome too (and shirt.)

The entire render is great. The character and the scene could pass for a photo if not for the background characters.

So, if you've seen me having a fit in the Always Another Sale thread - you may have noticed I've decided that while I withhold my money in protest of how terrible March Madness has been, I'll spend my time constructively cleaning up my content library which is overdue from probably last Thanksgiving.

I have a folder labeled Materials in my base "My Daz 3d Library". I have no idea where it is supposed to be - but I don't think it is supposed to be in the root My Daz 3D library. I checked Runtime, but there is no "materials" folder in that subdirectory...

Is it supposed to be in Runtime\libraries?

I thought you said everything perfectly. File structure is a mess. Just yesterday, I was seeing one of a vendor's characters in the list of files yet all the rest of them were in an (vendor name) folder. Why was that lone one hanging out with the rest of the ladies, outside the folder? And no, it was a sole vendor, not a shared effort.

And I totally agree about the obnoxious ! in front of a product to put it at the top of the folder lists. Vendors shouldn't be allowed to do that.

My setup is D:/DAZ/Content/whatever the folders are, and I have a Materials folder directly under Content. It has a lot in it. Including the Genesis generations' materials, etc. I also have some things where you mentioned, in Runtime /Libraries

Yeah... I feel like I'm a grizzled DAZ veteran at this point. Blaming it on "User Responsibility," isn't going to float with me. I know what the real deal is. There is just a general disinterest in doing the boring part of making DAZ more manageable - and besides, it probably HELPS sell content when you don't realize you have 3 different models of DSLR camera, two of which were freebies that are as good or better than the expensive paid model here on DAZ and all of which will work fine with the pose sets that are available paid and for free.

Here is the weird thing about THAT observation...

It is based in truth. I have been eyeing the DSLR camera here on DAZ for over a year, and I always, even on discount, balk at the price for ONE prop. But while I was cleaning up my content library, I realized I had a free DSLR. Here is the problem with it... the LENS doesn't map correctly. It can't find the right texture, something wrong in the path. If you IGNORE, it comes out white. But... I know how to copy the file it is looking for into the search field and change the path to my root DAZ content directory, find it and load it... and more than that, I know that there is a WAY to go into the .duf file and edit it with a text editor to put in the RIGHT path and fix it, although I've been to lazy to do that to any of my content so far...

And if the DAZ store content didn't frequently have the same problems lately, I might rationalize that this is worth the extra cost. But when the paid content is dropping things into folder directories that are confusing and that don't load right and they never get fixed or updated... What am I paying the premium for? Either way I'm going to have to figure out how things work on a technical level, where they are and how to get them to load right, in order to use my content. In that case... bring on the free DSLR and I'll work with getting the right texture to load on the lens manually. Quality control seems to have taken a hit in the last 12 months.

Do you have to load V4 in first and then dial in Aiko 4, or is there a way to load Aiko 4 as a preset first without the extra steps?

Those Generation 4 characters are difficult to figure out.

    From the readme

Aiko 4 comes with a new CR2 file located in the DAZ People folder. This is a new version of the Victoria 4.2 CR2 file that automatically injects the Aiko morphs and dials the base morph. Restoring or resetting the morphs on the Aiko 4 figure will restore to the Aiko base morph being on. This will not happen if you load the Aiko morphs on the Victoria 4.2 CR2 separately.

I was not happy though with the texture for the top, it looks good on other people's renders but close-up it looked like plaster to me

It's awful. It looks hard in every light I've tried. When I did my render I had to completely kill the bump/displacement/normals and stack translucent geoshells over it to get it to actually look soft.

That's a great trick! I have to try that sometime... I'm just discovering the wonders of geoshells! laugh

I don't know if you can edit the original .duf file or not. What I would do is load the object into a blank scene, go through the pain of finding the missing texture(s), then save the result as a scene subset or as a support asset. Then subsequently use that instead of the original file.

I still use G2 (and occasionally G1). I skipped G3, but I recently upgraded some of my G1's to G8. Not Gen-X-ed or otherwise transferred, but recreated them (I only cheated with a saved morph of the G1's used on teh G8 to get a base to work from). The idea was not to copy, but to upgrade and fix tiny details that were bugging me.

G1 Amber is a tad sceptical about her upgrade in progress here ;)

Also taking my first steps into iray now I have a system that can handle it and time to fiddle, but I'm not yet convinced..

These shaders are where I learned that trick. It is a fantastic way to add fuzziness and softness to cloth and a fantastic set of shaders. https://www.daz3d.com/uhd-fuzzy-cloth-shaders-and-merchant-resource

Well, Ollie is interesting. He's already being bashed but I think he adds some fun to the gene pool. Dialing down the nose a tad perhaps, but he certainly has a different look and may be worth considering. I don't own the Aiko 8 Pro Bundle so miss out on the 10%, and getting sick and tired of them not changing that up.

Note Fast Grab has changed, not sure when, but there's some characters in there. I like the materials on Grutilda, there's a variety.

I like Ollie - he's very distinct (and the Gollum character alone would have made me get that and the base). I see lots of possibilities.

  • Carola OCarola O Posts: 3,823

I actually like what I see of Ollie, not only does he make me smile but I think it might be interesting to dial in a small % of him in other characters, and see the result from that. Don't think I can afford him though, but I have to admit I'm actually tempted despite preferring more realistic looking characters

So I went looking for Anain and Akasha ... only to find in the list the folder is the one for the PA names and the contents are Kande and Musoke for Genesis 3 and 8 female. So I went with them smiley, using the Genesis 3 models. Occording to the description they are sisters. In the folders I found both figures but only materials for Musoke, so I presume I'm meant to use the same set of materials on both girls.

I didn't have a lot of time when I was working on them, so I applied poses and rendered fairly quickly.

    1. The full figure render. Kande is on the left with Evi hair and wearing Ailmer Outfit for Genesis 3 female. Musoke is on the right with Paisley hair and wearing Land Walker Outfit for Genesis 3 Female.

    2. Zoomed in close up: Kande.

In my Content Library I don't have a CR2 file for Aiko 4 in People, or in Daz People.

I've got a folder My Daz Library\People\Aiko 4\ that has a bunch of Aiko 4 characters - but not Aiko 4 herself.

I can't find her anywhere in my Poser runtime either.

    But I own her.

This is kind of what I'm talking about...

    Found her. Poser\Figures\Daz People...

Oh... THAT Daz People folder... :)

One of the main reasons I am so aggressive in keeping my custom categories updated is the fact that the file structure drives me bat s*** crazy.  I literally cannot work with it like that.  I was spending so much time finding stuff I never had time to actually do anything.  Doing the custom categories is the only thing that allowed me to save my sanity.  I only have to find things once, then its put into a place that makes sense to be and I know exactly where to look for it.  Need a medieval room?  Its under building and scenes/fantasy medieval, interiors.  Need a sleek modern dress for genesis 2?  Its under people/Genesis 2/ Female/Clothing/Dresses/Modern.  Its a major pain to put together (I just got a new laptop and decided to do the custom categories from scratch and clean things up a bit instead of copying over from the pc) especially if you have a lot of stuff, the new laptop conversion is on week three as far as getting the categories done, but its worth the effort as far as I'm concerned.  And I am still pissed off about them taking away the blue bars to find new stuff.  I can't find the old stuff most of the time, much less the new content!
