You can't put all the blame on the scientists and engineers, though. They've been preoccupied with other stuff in those 93 years ...
At least they got the last one right, although I suspect the details are rather different.
Just a reminder that you have less than 18 hours left to submit a Mini-Contest entry.
So far, we have five entries vying for that $15 Daz GC...
Here's my last minute entry for the Mini-contest. :)
"PIGS IN SPAAAACE!"

Mini-Contest Entry #006: Entry Accepted
Here's another entry for the Mini-contest:
"Nations in Black"
Cookie for whoever gets both the anime and sci-fi crossover in this render. ;) (Groggle monk is just a random alien)

Nice render. I'm guessing "Men in Black" and "Stargate-SG1".
I should have my entry ready to go shortly.

Actually the last 2 are correct. Corn is, technically, a grass and just try finding processed food that doesn't have something derived from corn in it these days. Besides the obvious there's a lot that's not obvious like Mono & Diglycerides. I know these because my mother-in-law is allergic to corn so anytime I have to cook for her I have to pay close attention.
Yeah, I saw Mono & the Diglycerides warming up for Hawkwind around '76, and you're right, they were very derivative.
(And corny.)

Yeah but where is Hawkwind now and Mono & the Diglycerides are everywhere you look :)
Oh, I know! Kids these days, huh?
The sci-fi is obvious (SG-1), but there are too many possibilities for the anime. (SAC, maybe? The clothing is wrong for it to have anything to do with this...)
Mini-Contest Entry #007 (of 7): Entry Accepted
And this closes the Mini-Contest. Judges, please get your pick to me sometime today - the entries are in posts 152, 177, 190, 199, 204, 214, and 217.

The biggest hint is in the title. :3
Thank you for accepting my entries. I will put the Mini-contest renders in the gallery and post the link soon.
Alexa :D
Pretty cool. I see Stargate, Men in Black, and Blue Man Group. :-P I'm not into anime, so I can't guess there...except, maybe Protector? (just looking at your signature)

Naw, good guess, though! :-)
Veh~, I'll wait for another guess, then I'll give away the answer. ^_^
I wanted to use Look at My Hair, because the characters have pretty distinguishing hairstyles, but I was running up against the clock. :P
Hasta la Pasta!
Alexa ;)
My entry for this month. Last week's DAZ freebie sparked an idea. I wanted to add more figures; but I was running out of free, futuristic looking outfits for Genesis.

Rendered in DS4.5 no Postwork
WOAH! You pulled out ALL the stops for this render, huh, BWSMan? O_O
Very detailed and complex!
Alexa :)
Cool! That's a lot for one scene. You must have a kick-ass computer.
Dana
I forgot to say that this is the first entry where you can actually tell that the sky traffic is sky traffic. Not bashing the others, just that it looks so cool when you can see there are sky vehicles there.
Dana
So many great renders so far! I better finish my entry soon, before I run out of time!
Not top of the line but it's and AMD 4100 Quad Core 3.6 GHz with 8 GB memory running Win7 64 bit. That extra memory makes a difference.
Also; I made use of DS4.5 Pro's instancing to multiply the sky traffic and most of the vehicles are geometry shells (there's only 4 "real" vehicles in the scene.
Instancing? Geometry Shells? Boy, am I out of touch with this stuff! I saw another one the other day...geo-grafting. :-S
Dana
@DanaTA:
Instancing: Instead of loading two copies of the same object into the scene, you can load one object, then have as many identical instances (copies) of it as you need. Because the copies are identical and reference the original object, each copy uses less memory (not sure how much less). You can also make changes to, say, the materials on the original, and that affects all the copies too. Great for forests, or a group of parade soldiers, or a flock of birds, or whatever.
Geometry shells: Like instances, but without identical materials, so you can have different materials on each instance (I haven't explored this much yet myself, although I need to.)
Geo-grafting: Also haven't tried this, but I believe it's basically sticking part of one object onto another one, like having Genesis with a lion head or something.
Instancing is great fun, Making Forests with it in Bryce is great. I just made a render which says it has almost 70 million polys, but because they are instances and there is actually only 4 real tress in the background forest it rendered quite quickly. In Bryce you can have a "mixed" brush so you add all the real trees to the brush and paint a mixed forest.
Thanks for the explanations!
Dana
I know the feeling - "if only I had (foo), I could make this great render!"
All the links check out, and you fit the theme, so...
ENTRY #013 - ENTRY ACCEPTED
Oh, yes - I just sent you a PM about next month's challenge. No, I'm not volunteering to co-host...
None of the judges have gotten back to me about the Mini-Contest yet...
Edit: fifteen minutes after I posted that, I heard from the "foreign" judge...
I still haven't heard from the other two judges, so I roped a friend into being a judge for the Mini-Contest.
This was not an easy decision - each judge liked a different render the best. But there's only one GC for the mini-contest... Congratulations, and please PM me with the email address you use on your account, Dorseyland.
