Anyone got any hints on using Luxrender. Just bought Reality 3 last week. Renders seem to take forever and still quite pixely . Any suggestions welcome

Still learning myself have had Reality since it came out.
Lux renders can take a long time to render and never stop until you decide it's finished
Light setup is something that kinda has to be relearned because it works the way real world lighting works and not the way Poser or Studio lighting works you have to think of it like a photographer taking a picture
Materials setup is also important for render times the more reflective surfaces the longer the render
Also unseen parts (body parts under clothes and such)add to the time as the geometry gets calculated again these can be set to null in the Reality material manager and Lux will then ignore them
There is a lot of info over at the RDNA forums and Paolo is very helpful

Sorry for the delay in responding TimG. That's what happens when one does not receive any e-bot notices.

    Thank you.

Paolo is conducting a Reality 3 Masterclass on Sat 29 Jun

    http://3dartlive.com/reality-3-masterclass/

    The free session covers:
Selecting the right lights for the scene
    Combining lights together
    Understanding color temperature
How and when to use IBL

    The Master class covers:
    How to create moonlight
    Editing materials in Reality
Easy use of procedureal textures for great effects
    Understanding specular colour and glossiness
    Special effects with transparency

Looks good only problem is it is on at 5am Sunday morning my time

    See you there....

I'm not the best person, but I can try to help when it comes to Luxrender settings.

as for lights, I suggest setting up some primatives with a large panel aimed at the characters or scene and rename them or convert them to lights when you import your scene to Reality.

Once in Luxrender you can adjust the settings such as brightness and color as it renders.

Take the Starship Bridge 8 for example. (ie TNG bridge) Convert the dome texture to a light in Reality and then when you render adjust as needed for color and brightness.

Most of Rduda's sets have perfect placement of lights. Just remember to convert the textures to lights (thumping foot on floor to share the point.)

Good luck. As for skin settings I made some pointers in the body of the comments to Mylochka's Uhura image over at DA. Lux will do SSS settings it just takes a bit of figureing out.

These will work for both the DAZ and Poser versions, I've read over the manuals enough times to have a fair understanding of each.
(Manuals...gotta love them! they actually make life easier and understandable! Thumping foot on floor to share the point again! Nuff said.)

Okay I have the console for the Patient Room uploaded at DA. I tried submitting it for the group link but ? what's going on there. Keeps disappearing! I've also noticed that for some items 'downloads' are not being accurately tallied.

Pictures? Some fantastic out of this world scenery shots? ... microscopic flowers nobody has seen? ... something just really weird for texturing?

Well, I was thinking of maybe starting to actually do stuff again instead of/in addition to beta-testing. But with your comment in my ears as we left, I did take some pictures in Utah on the way home. THAT is an alien landscape!

Now, to catch up on everything posted since I left!

A little bonus for anyone else struggling a bit with the materials in that freebie Briefing Room set mentioned a little while back; the Phase II site that's producing new full-length episodes of TOS "Season 4" recently put up an article with lots of pics of the various Rec. Rooms — which were almost all except one redresses of the Briefing Room set. It's the top feature on the Special Features page. Interesting to see how the shadows fall, and just how shiny some things are supposed to be.

OH OH OH ME! I'll test it. in Genesis and Genesis 2 and with V6! PM and I'll get with you for an email to send it to. (Well when they finally release GEN2...looks like V6 is available but not the Gen2 Female to support it....and folks, I have it on a bad rumor...it won't work with v4 skins. Like Microsoft and it's departure from XP it won't be backwards compatible.

Don't start the flame war here, there are other areas of the forum here that are for that.

***Update - Someone has made a v4 to v6 update/conversion and Genesis2 is in the Product List for free download ***

    as for v6
I should have both shortly. Just need to dust off the wallet and beg the wife for money to buy.

    -Paul

and for your entertainment. Part of a project I'm working on for the TOS Era comic.

So, does it have a Mariette Hartley morph with two belly-buttons?

(If anyone here is going to get that reference, it'll be the folks taking part in this thread...)

A quick export to Z-Brush and back I'm she could have one, though I'm more inclided to go the easy route and just paint one on the skin texture.

Also it is a fact, the v4 skins do not work. But It's about time to start the transition to the next generations anyway (For me anyway). Can't stay stuck in the past too long. And from the looks of it, Rendo, RDNA and many of the other content creators are making a slow transition to GND since the Genesis (or GEN2) character from the looks of it are not a single click, load, pose and morph.

Time will tell if that happens. Personally I would like to see it. Genesis with it's one body and morph to any sex, beast or child/adult and cross fitting outfits is fantastic (just don't plan on seeing Kirk or Picard in a Tutu...NO SPIRK or PIKER images from this guy!)

Now for the shameful plug. http://www.msthemis.deviantart.com (not me but related) Wendy is working on a scifi series..Stargate, but in a kind of Toon format with just Genesis based characters. Check it out if you're interested. I'm supplying all the material, sets, skins, props, lights, and outfits. But them I'm also supplying the computer, the electricity, assistance, story and roof over her head.

    Enjoy.

indeed, i need to play with the geometry a bit more to get the shoulders, and then add wrinkles and what not.

    Me...and you too.

The same type of people that shell out big bucks for their "3D People Rendering Studio Program" instead of the free one, with the pretty tabs, industry standard 3D render engine and 1st generation grey blob that morphs to other people and monsters. hahahahaha. :-)

Just had to poke fun at you. We are all guilty of buying something other's see as beyond logic and common sense.

Well, I'm still wrestling with Poser Pro 2014. There's a glitch somehwere that's resisting my efforts to use objs and primatives. Me and the techs have been going round and round with it for almost 3 weeks now. The rest of the program works fine- fantastic as far as renders go.

Is it safe to assume that you know that they have put out a Service Release for Pro 2014, and that you've installed it?

What's the nature of the problem?
