(attaches patches) Ahhh...better.
Deiny's? Is my first time using 'em (Wanted to use them in some Jungly or Foresty Vue envrionment but meh), but they're cute!
I dunno what they're finding so fascinating about that chrome sphere in the middle of that room though *derp*
'Deiny' as in 'Deinonychus' =3
Also I noticed that the floor (And to an extent, the walls) are a bit out-of-scale compared to the dinos. Oh well ^^
Hooooh my!! I took a quick glance at the Indigo galleries and saw these -
Volumetric Caustics, and Pool Caustics :O
It might be at your end, I just posted that last reply in not time at all.
Dana
...it is. I have a wireless plan as the only other option is an expensive cable package (that only gets more expensive as you go because they keep raising rates) that requires I also have Television and Phone included and have to sign a multi year contract with stiff penalties if I want out early. Oh they do these tempting introductory "specials", but after three or six months the fees jump to the normal rate.
Part of my woes is I am in a half cellar though that usually only resulted in a slow, not unstable connection as I have been experiencing the last several months. I've tried everything, extension cables, using a metal reflector dish, but it has progressively become worse. Most likely it has to do with the USB modem (I've had it for nearly four years now.) however it appears the service provider is moving away from straight net connection service to all "Dumb Phone" as the last time I inquired at the local outlet about a replacement, they mentioned they don't deal in the modems anymore and the proceeded to try and get me into a Phone plan instead which is absolutely useless to me (try to DL the latest Carrara update on one).
I am looking for another provider, but it has to be wireless since those plans are all month to month as opposed to a hardwired connection which is contract based (because a technician has to actually come in and install the bloody line and equipment rather than just perform a few keystrokes). Most of those that are remotely affordable also have monthly DL limits, which make them pretty much useless to me, unless you pay a premium rate.
The City of Portland attempted to set up a free wireless network in the city core years ago (there was a node across the street from my place) but buggered the whole thing up with their inept management of the project as they went live too early and started bringing sponsors on board before the system was actually ready (made my current connectivity look like high speed fibre optic). Seeing the ills the network was experiencing they (the few sponsors they had) yanked their backing as people were getting bumped off the system by timeouts or getting the three dirty words of net access "Server Not Found", before the host page even finished loading.
Basically, it boils down to the telecom industry wanting to wring as many zlotys out of us poor proles as they can so their execs can keep their scheduled tee time at the local country club.
...some days I really miss ol' Ma Bell.
It was tasty, but boy, am I paying for it! (ahhh face)
But my system is all cleared out... (red face)
...that is the one good thing, and for the next several days no virus or germ will dare come within striking distance.
Also because I tend to use a lot of garlic, keeps the mosquitoes away too which supports my theory that they really are little winged vampire spawn.
Tortillas have fewer carbs than a hot dog bun, so typically I cook 2 hot dogs, throw 'em in a tortilla with cheese and some topping (mustard, salsa, steak sauce) and roll it up! Easy to eat, easy to cook, easy to clean up. (grin)
I went for the catfish basket today, since it's inoffensive AND healthy. Yum!!
...mmm love catfish. The only fish to used for Cajun Blackened Fish. For some reason it has been hard to find at the market here the last year or so. Not sure why.
This is why one needs to use a cast iron skillet, it heats nice & evenly can take prolonged high temps without softening, and if properly seasond, nothing will stick to it. I usually set the skillet on the ring for between 30 - 45 min before actually getting the fish ready, slowly increasing the heat. Then add a tablespoon of olive oil let it coat the bottom of the skillet evenly (make sure you have good hotpads or a generous oven mitt as that handle gets hot hot hot). After rubbing the fillets with my special compound of seasonings, I run some water over my fingers and flick a couple drops in the pan, when they "dance" on the surface before popping, the skillet is ready. Slap the fillet in and watch the clock in thirty seconds flip it over, let it go another thirty seconds and it is done all the way through with a lovely blackened crust of that wonderful Cajun spice on the outside. Serve with roasted cut red potatoes seasoned with garlic black pepper and tarragon, along with baby carrots that have been slow cooking with a bit of water and butter.
A bottle of beer or glass of red table wine (nothing fancy) and you are set for some bon temp noms.
...oh and before starting, be sure to take all the smoke alarms down, remove the batteries, close all doors to rooms not occupied, open an outside door and/or window (use a fan if you have one) and let the neighbours know that when they see the smoke rolling out that your house is not on fire.
This method is also not recommended for those who are Energy Star™ conscious.
...zut alors! Now I have to go across the river to the fishmonger's and see if they have catfish there.
...speaking of contests, just took second place in the Fantasy Attic's May competition with my two toon girls (Sadie and Kimberly) at the airshow pic.
Only if you don't drink Dr. Pepper with the peanut butter crackers! I get a bad aftertaste after combining Dr. Pepper and peanut butter. They just don't mix well.
Dana
...so I guess there won't be any Reeses DR Pepper Peanut Butter cups on the store shelves anytime soon.
...two great tastes that taste yuk together.
I'm drinking a DR Pepper atm
...love the teapots in the pool. That's something I might actually see hanging on a gallery wall here.

Oooh, sounds like fun! Once I move into a Real Place(tm) I'll have to get a cast iron skillet. For now, it's getting fish at a restaurant.. oh well. (meh face)
Lovely caustics! I now the 3Delight engine is capable of rendering caustics but there's no easy interface exposed.. le sigh.
Oddly, I'm eating peanut butter and crackers ATM. No Dr Pepper though. : )

YAYZ 4 U!!!
Can't do peanut butter. I have a mild nut allergy

w00000000000000000 h000000000000000000 CONGRATS!!! (huge grin)
You'll want to stay away from these guys then, Frank. : )
Yum, Lays classic potato chips and a diet Dr. Pepper! If only I had some vodka to add to it.. oh well, it'd ruin my productivity! (evil smirk)
Reading Webcomic tutorials. I think I know what to do and how to do it, but I'm going to make sure I'm not deluding myself. A little research and learning can pay off big in the end. (smile)
Hmmph.. I might need Garibaldi or LAMH in a couple of months, for a custom character I'm considering. Urgh.
Cool one! Looks like they are assessing the threat.

Damned useless smileys! (frown face)

Congratulations!

Did you pick up the free LAMH Player? People are already starting to make some presets for it, and I think there are some at his site, too.

...by all means, don't walk into each other while doing so.

I'll look into that, thanks! I need a character with fur down it's spine, there's nothing that'll work out there that'll work that I can find.
...I have Garibaldi. I find it fairly easy to grasp but it pretty much is 3Delight dependent (which I pretty much use anyway). You can save created hair content as a .obj to export into other render engines/apps but that converts it to firbre mesh which is very heavy poly count wise and it also has to be rigged as well.
There was a Garibaldi vs. LAMH thread which I hoped would be helpful in illustrating the differences and quality both plugins could achieve, but it pretty much was taken over by the LAMH crowd so I unsubscribed from it.
From what I have seen, Garibaldi can produce some very nice results though it is render dependent meaning the actual hair does not show in OpenGL format.
As I understand, LAMH is strand rather than render based, but most of what I have seen in final renders looks more coarse and less natural than what I've seen in Garibaldi renders.
The one advantage of LAMH is you can use it for other things like creating grass, moss, etc as it works through instancing. There is a free LAMH player available here in the Daz store which lets you experiment with a set of existing base styles you can DL from Alessandro's website.

You can't make hair presets yourself with the free player, but you might find a friend who's willing to make a preset for you.

Indeed they are! I'm jealous XD
Heh, for better or for worse you can't disable caustics in Indigo. If the requirements are met, they happen. No buttons or settings to check/uncheck to get them to work - they come along for the ride on their own :3

...that can be done with Garibaldi as well as you load your character than select the area of the figure where you want to spawn the hair and "paint" the exact location. It also has a styling and tweaking tabs which allow you to determine parting wave, clumping, frizz, etc.
I like this system as it makes it easier (at least for me) to create the manes for my Sabrinno (which starts from eyebrows then down along the side of the face as well as - like your character- along the spine to the small of the back).
...and yes you can make hairy footed Hobbitses.
Both LAMH and Garibaldi have their advantages, it comes down to what suits the style of your workflow the best.

Hmmm, ok. I don't mind it being 3Delight dependent, no OpenGL preview is kind of annoying but I can live with it as a lot of the SSS shaders I've been playing with, and UberEnvironment, don't show properly in OpenGL anyway.
I have plenty of time before I need to worry about it as this character won't show up for many episodes.. I'm just trying to get all my quackers in a row!
Thanks for the info! (smile)

That's fair enough, actually - saves having to dink around with "caustics settings". (smile)
