Hi Arial!
I've decided to use Daz as a launch pad for a character I'm (hopefully) creating to represent a website I'm developing. I'm completely new to the world of illustration as a whole, and I was fortunate enough to stumble across this thread while researching the differences between Toon Girl Sadie and Sadie for Genesis. I'm very thankful for the wealth of information, I finally feel like at least one of my feet is firmly planted on the path that leads to a complete website!
As I mentioned, I'm completely new to 3D animation, but with each click of the mouse I get a little more excited about everything I'm learning. I'm especially interested in the Toon figures, specifically Sadie, Sam, and an adult female. At the moment, I'm torn between Kimberly for Genesis and Eclypse for Genesis 2.
Anyway, I'm replying to your thread because you seem to have been experiencing a similar learning curve a little over 6 months ago, so I hope you can offer an update on the progress you've made? With the new terminology and software to learn, it's easy to get overwhelmed! I should also add that I'm familiar with both Photoshop and Illustrator, have you found those programs useful in your illustrations?
Any updates or advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated!
I'd also like to introduce myself to the others on this thread, everyone was so kind and understanding as you were learning. Hello All!!
Hello!
Wow! Been a very long time since I've poked around on this website. To be very honest, I was extremely intimidated by the software and I haven't had the time or the energy to dive in and learn it. I was in the middle of a lot of projects and those took priority, so I never went back to this. This project is, effectively, put on the back burner for a while.
I started a podcast: http://pnrradio.com where I interview authors and celebrities of paranormal entertainment (e.g., books, TV shows, movies)
My third novel came out: Midnight Hunt - Book 3 in my Bonded By Blood Vampire Chronicles
And I'm starting a book marketing company, sooo....I got a lot on my plate right now.
I do wish YOU the best in your efforts, though! Definitely do not judge the learning curve by me. I frequently bite off more than I can chew, as you can see previous people tried to warn me about in this thread. LOL
Best of luck!
Arial ;)
Hi bduncan86, you're at least in one of the best places to learn if that's your goal. If you come across any hurdles, simply drop a post in the forums and we can help you over it. I don't tend to do much in the way of animation (takes ages to render) but I at least know how it works, so feel free to post more and ask the burning questions.
As for the toon figures, I'm a huge fan of them myself. Toon Girl Sadie was actually one of the first things I ever bought from the Daz store way back when. Even before I owned K4. I also own Sam, Genesis Sadie, Eclipse and Kimberly along with Jasmine and Jason. I guess I'm a bit of a fan of the 3D Universe toons.
Hello bduncan86,
I pretty much only work with stand-alone toon figures, so im not much help in dealing with Genesis based toon figures, but one thing about this forum, as you've already mentioned, there is a wealth of information here, and plenty of people to help you along your way. So if you have specific questions, ask away and i can pretty much assure you you can get your questions answered... i would suggest however starting a new thread with your series of questions.
Good Luck!
-MJ
Thanks everyone, for the feedback!
Arial, I'm sorry your illustration project is on hold, but it sounds like you have plenty of exciting things going on! Good luck with it all! I'm an avid reader, so I'll pop into Amazon and look up your book right away :-)
MJ and friends, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'll be posting a thread very soon. Could you kindly suggest the best place to post a question about which Genesis Toon Girl would best meet my needs?
Thanks Again Everyone!
If you're going to use a non-Genesis toon, you might want to check out CrossDresser 4 (Converts clothingfrom one base character to another) and Morph Follower (Adds morphs to clothing to match morphs in the character).
Same as this thread... Commons.

...I'd go with Kimberly as she not only looks like she could be Sadie's Older sister/cousin, but there are more autofit clones available for Genesis1. Currently for G2F/G2M there are only fitting/UV clones for Vicky4/Mike4 and Genesis1, whereas with Genesis1, if you have the Genesis Sadie and Sam you also have the autofit clones for original toon kids' clothing.
Unfortunately, with both the Genesis1 & 2 versions, as I mentioned before, there are no Sadie/Sam UV sets so you will be unable transfer any skin maps from the original characters.
Ah, "New-Bees", more than a decade ago I started with Daz 3d, I used "Sadie" and "Sam" in a project......."SPACE CHILD"....THERE IS A LOT MORE...AND IT WILL NOT BE GOOD!!!!!!!!!
