Oh dear, luckily our's melted away, probably because I bought 4 new winter tires. But it will come again, winter hasn't started yet.
Well the short Video clip was from a further up North, but it does mention the Valleys (which is what they call our area, although you obviously have to have mountains to have valleys) and one Mountain road, the Rhigos was closed for a while.
Is still lingering on the tops of our mountains, I can see it on the next one over one way, but can't see the top of ours, as there are other things in the way, like the houses in the next road up and some trees and stuff. Has gone out of my garden for now.
I guess our Mountains are quite small compared to where you live, as even Pen Y Fan is only 886 m and we live at around 365 m (1200 ft)
Work in progress: I've resisted the temptation to add Peter the Polar Bear as I've been doing tons of those recently.
I may add him before this scene is completed though. :)
I've used David's technique for the snowy trees, though I haven't used overdriven materials in the DTE like the example in his video.
Thanks Guss... Yes I was thinking the same. Maybe it can be thick frost :-)
Horo... Thanks. My head is most definitely in Illustrative mode at the moment but I am thinking I may also try a photorealistic render too before the competition closes. :)
@Dave: Thick frost I CAN believe, after seeing things around here. My very fist thought about the igloo was who knocked over the other snowman? And where's the head? And after taking another gander, this is another one I think would look good on a card.
Gosh its gone quite in the Frozen theme - Hope it means everyone is testing and rendering away.
My idea is to have an ice cube being viewed by a traveler from the far future, who, to his (her?) amazement spies a black rhino frozen inside. (Ok yes, the traveler is huge!)
I like the way the Diamond material looks on the cube (made in Hexagon) - very icy in a lighter/whiter scene, but so difficult to see in against the dark hands of the traveler. I think it also need some hairline imperfections and tiny air bubble but not too many. Ice can be very "pure".
I also want to create frost and ice on the traveller's uniform but havent got round to that yet
TheSavage64 Snowman pic- - would make a good Christmas card scene indeed. I think the relative scale of the trees vs igloo/snowman could be adjusted toward taller trees, smaller objects, perhaps. Some children and a puppy would set everything off too for the festive season
Your Siberian-base snow scene - very mysterious and I love the wide-space feel and cold clouds. For some reason the snow looks rather creamy and edible( perhaps texture is very very smooth, or finer details lost in the resizing or haze?)
Horo- the trees look a lot better,more realistic, but I kind of miss the light blue sparkle from the snow. I am saving up for the islands 2, love the skydomes.

Ok checked out the tut, seems straight forward, I will play with it when I get home, the new image looks great as well.
Tut, as expected, is super-useful. That last image looks so real...a storm's-a-brewing, me thinks.

Talking about frozen. I know where Horo sent that snow he had now.

That video is an example of what usually happens around here during the first good snow fall. People forget just how slippery new packed snow can be.

@Dave: Overall, nice image. Though the snow on the foreground trees looks more like white hair to me.
@Dave - not photo realistic but very charming and it conveys the message. I like it.

Go on then... Second Work In Progress for this month's render challenge.
This a secret facility in deepest Siberia... Or something. :)
@keryna: The cube can be seen better in the larger version of that image. You've done a real nice job with all the textures, including the face.
@Dave: Yep, that place looks cold. Nice.

@keryna - very nice render.
@Dave - another nice one.
@bigh - ah, a pool to cool down after the sauna.
I also attempted David's winter tree tutorial. I did deviate a bit, though. IBL render, 256 quality, 12 hours - mostly the AA-ing.

@bigh: Love what you've done with the place, an early winter look.
@Horo: Both of those images are really nice.....and sooo cold looking.
thank you :-)
BF 4
@ bigh, shaping up nicely, tree looks great

@bigh: And here I thought foliage only grew in the spring and summer. Getting better.
laughing - thanks
Inspired by all the work here, my entry for this challenge.
