My fingers are really itching - I think there is something like too much DazStudio and Poser and not enough Bryce. LOL
By the way: where is that " the actual Contest thread for judging."?

There isn't one, as such. Once I know the entries are the final ones I then transfer them to a judging thread, which has only the images, each with a number and title. This way the judges don't know whose is whose, as they do all promise not to look at the WIP thread.

I try my hardest to get the judging to be impartial. Has worked well so far.

Keryna – thanks for the comment, I hope to see your entry too, as Chohole mentioned there is still time.

Horo – your last render "Rime"is beautiful.

    Sounds good!
Sorry, I didn't know because really am not one for contests usually.
I need much more time (and rerender, rerender, rerender) until I am satisfied with a picture than is usually allowed.
But the theme caught my eye - let's see. LOL

@Horo: That's a very beautiful image. Well done.

An idea popped into the ol' gray matter which is displayed below. It's the first time I used foliage, Xfrog, and tried to make something that looked like snow. It's also the first time I used models downloaded from the web.

The longest part from fixing the leaves of the Xfrog trees, and going back through an hiding those leaves for rendering. This image was rendered at 144 RPPs, 4 MRD, TA, Shadows, standard Bryce sun with the sky adjusted a bit, as were the clouds. Oh, and it was the first time I ever had an out of memory error while trying to Save As. That was strange.

Anyway, I'm calling this image completed, I'm afraid to make further adjustments and actually running out of memory. It's title, "Park the snow."

@GussNemo: Your snow pic looks great. Very convincing. Chapeau!

I have tried out David's video "Snow on Trees effect"

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0eHdeK0ix4

and came out with this picture. You are standing on a little hill and are looking at distant hills.

    Guss...c'mon..own up that's a photo ;)

    Elvis...super work, too.

BTW...in David's vid., he uses the Hemlock tree, which seems to be the one used here in all the works as it has the editable 'E' attribute etc.

The other special trees don't have the 'E' initially when you load them, but it is there when you ungroup 'U' them (some with two trees in the group); allowing the option to use a different tree in your work besides the Hemlock. Might be worth experimenting around with them?

@GussNemo - thank you. Yours looks quite convincing with the park benches.

@electro-elvis - snowy trees are set in a nice landscape.

    Ice fishing in the moonlight

WIP, I am sure it needs more, but not certain what.

    @Trish: Thank you.

@Kerya: Thanks. The prints you see just appeared, nothing I did.

@electro: Awww...you say the nicest things, thanks. Your recent picture looks like places I've seen. Real nice.

@bigh: Nice of you to say so. Keep an eye out, I'm rendering another one with snow on the foliage.

@Jay: Nope, can't confess to it being a photo. Thanks.

@Horo: Thank you very much. The park benches were a late coming idea.

@Pam: Nice, real nice ice fishing scene. Though I'd think by now, unless it's just the start, there'd be a few fish stuck in the snow. And maybe a generator for plugging in a electric blanket to sit on.

GussNemo – very nice park image, the snow looks so realistic.

Electro-elvis – lovely the landscape especially the distant mountains. It’s something I find difficult to achieve.

Chohole –awesome scene. I agree with Trish maybe a moon.

Well I talked with Hein ice fisher about maybe a moon, and he said ''do you realise how cold it is here, mooning is likely to freeze my assets''

Seriously the moon is off camera, so I added a moonbeam instead, as altering the light so the moon appeared would make the whole image different.

    Thanks for the nice comments.

@chohole: Nice scene. Well done. I especially like the hole. Really looks like ice. BTW I don't think the moon beams are necessary.

Thanks Jamie. I did try Polar bears, but they didn't work as well as a sneaky seal, and Dave Savage has sort of co-opted polar bears, and Peter is far better than the one I have. My polar bear is plonky.

Tried a HDRI render on this at some point, but it just doesn’t suit – sometimes too much detail can become ‘washed out’ (old watercolour term). In the end, went with a limited soft shadow applied.

Had to ‘call it' in the end - a complicated work can overcome you (a little like portraits – not my forte, BTW – where at one point all runs fine, however, a simple stroke can loose it in an instant).

    Title: “Cold Heart”.

A plonky polar bear? That's a new term, which now you brought it up, why don't you show us what plonky means?

@Jay: That is a stunning image. Simple yet profound. Nice job.

Sorry Jamie, South East London idiom. He is a right plonker, so some can look plonky. Plonker, and hence Plonky means stupid (amongst other less polite terms) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwDBZuHw7l8

Ahhh, a dim wit, moron, maroon, et al. Still, it'd be nice to see another polar bear, plonker or not.

This is one I did a while back.

The legend on this one is

"you see Son, I told you if we came here we could get a hot meal''
