Going ape over the AM Gorilla

I'm going ape over the new https://www.daz3d.com/gorilla-for-genesis-8-male by AM. Apart from LAMH and Catalizer preset hair, it also comes with dForce hair, and as soon as I finish playing with it I'll post a render or two.

I might add it cost me all of $8.68 with the July PC coupon!

Images added, and unfortunately my eyes can't pick much of a difference, but the gorilla does look good.

Without dForce:

With dForce:

Nice! Even though I can't see a use for him, it's nice to finally have a new one out.

Can the fur be used on any G8M?

Okay, last one, because I wanted to try having three gorillas in the scene, and run a dForce sim on all three together. Here I've included the three Iray material presets (black, albino and silverback).

The simulation took 25 seconds with all three starting from the zero pose. The render only went to 82 % before I stopped it, (11 minutes), since this was only to test the simulation.

Looks that way, though the appearance may be a little odd. Here's Pace (by 3DU) with the silverback hair (and a pair of short pants), with no other modifications or simulation.

    Interesting

if the dual lobe loads other maps one could fur up a few creatures

might grab him tomorrow been waiting nearly a year for him to be released too, checked the dates when he was told he'd been released to be released is the baby morph still part of him?

I'm guessing the delay was because he now has dforce added? I don't always have much luck with dforce. How's Catalyzer going? I found that if you shrink or enlage some animals using Catalyzer it crashes during or if you reload a save featuring any reduced or enlarged it wont load and crashes. The last one I tried to do the other day featured three tigers normal size but crashed on render and crashed again when I tried to reopen the saved project. Saw in this ad mentioned version 1.7 whether need updated version or not don't know if current one is and whether or not there is a conflict with studio 4.11

If your LAMH Catalyzer has been kept up to date, it would be v1.7.0.0

I too have had trouble with Catalyzer, even just posing a character. Right this moment, I'm doing a render with Catalizer of the albino gorilla just as it loads, and, so far it does not look as good as the dForce version. Once the render is finished, I'll try changing the scale.

    Watch this space.

UPDATE: Scaling seems to work, as I scaled the gorilla (with hair) up and down to 50, 110 and here, 70%. The hairless gorilla is at 100% for comparison.

If somebody feels like making the monkey dance, I'd love to see what the dForce hair looks like animated! Thanks in advance if anyone takes the time to do so and post.

dForce ghair require 4.11, but you should be good with LAMH  and Catalyzer, with LAMH being Look At My Hair (two versions, full, paid-for version and free Player only) and Catalyzer being a product that takes LAMH hair and allows it's direct usae with Iray as base LAMH is 3Delight only (without resorting to exporting it to another .obj/fibrehair form - both optiosn available within (at least) the full version of LAMH).

DS 4.10 can use LAMH and/or Catalyzer hair but not the new dForce hair products. You need the appropriate plug ins, however,

LAMH stands for Look At My Hair, which is 3Delight only (I think?) hair and fur presets, while Catalyzer hair is a newer version of LAMH, which works with Iray, but has more strict requirements and is more unstable. There's more to it than that, but that's my really basic understanding - anyone feel free to correct me if I got it wrong wink

    thanks :)
I only have the one that came with DS. Not inclined to upgrade to 4.11 yet.  Don't have the purchase stuff. Too expensive right now.

@Zai, AM did say in the Chimpanzee commercial post that he planned on one at some point.

Most of Alessandro's stuff was realeased under his PA name AM, but Gorilla 8 was (FINALLY) released as a DAZ Original though. Not sure how that affects variations like an Orangutan. I sure hope it is a good thing for customers who love AM's products! Until then we still have Rawart's Apeworld Orangutan.

  • Orangutan it's definitely in the making, and looking great. Will post some images not too far from now.

A minor question, but can you use custom colour maps in the dforce hair?

Love the Gorilla in it’s natural state.  smiley

I’m having trouble with getting the d-force hair to not poke through clothing and accessories.  Suggestions?

Create a template where the clothing/accessories are black on the texture and everything is white, plug that into PS Generated Hair Scale.

    Thanks!

Minor safety tip:  Avoid pure black (corresponding to Zero) in the map, it will cause the DS (at least version 4.11.0.383) to crash when attempting to render the hair in iray.   Almost black (any black >0) seems to work fine.  :)

Okay, early test renders, with postwork, but you see what can be done with this beauty.  The second image is 'Growing Up' applied at the 5-8 years range.
Both renders are using the Catalyzer version of the model and rendered in IRAY. No problems noted with resizing or anything. I even zeroed the Growing Up morphs out and have a render cooking on that - no issues noted.

Thanks - the models are GREAT!  These aren't what I was picturing in my mind, so there will be more renders and ideas soon enough.  :)

Is it wrong that I want to shake his foot?
