Thanks. I think I have at least 6 different "laser swords", and they aren't too difficult to make since they're impractical metal tubes, anyway.
Ugh. Do I want to look through the $2.99 stuff? *sigh*
Blah, my dForce is still panicking, so I'll have to figure out what the issue is.
Just a quick render with default lighting. He's got the pointy chin thing like Babina. I do like his smirk-y face... his face has character.
Malik is my favorite of the add-on characters. I picked him up, and will pick up Silas as soon as I can. I didn't see any banner, and haven't for months. Nothing in my Inbox either (not even newsletters). Is there some setting I need to change to enable those?
Are you buying quite a few of the pro bundles and still not getting the banners? They seem to be for buying a certain number of pro bundles for Genesis 8 previously.
Malik has a texture issue on his legs of some sort:
Check the settings on bump and normal. That looks like something has been set way too strong. Is there any difference between how his leg looks and how his torso looks? (I have him, but I literally just this minute started downloading.)
Yeah, the legs have a stronger map of some sort. I'm doing a render right now, so can't check, but there is a thigh transition area which is noticbly different. It looks like body hair.
I submitted a ticket. Hopefully DAZ store will fix the issue.
Yeah, I was just able to get him loaded. His torso bump is set to 2.0 and normal at 0.25; his legs are 5.0 and 0.5. I can't imagine that was entirely intentional. It's not just with his default Character load, either; his hierarchical materials preset maintains those settings as well.
His legs are obscurred in the promos, but they seem to have the issue on the calf. Maybe this is how they are supposed to look?
One more quick look at Silas, default lights, low translucence.
Overall, a really good character. A lot of good work on him.
After a bunch of tinkering, it looks like most of the issue is that he has VERY strong bump maps and somewhat strong normal maps. He looks OK(...ish) with normal set between 0.25-1, as you like, and bump no higher than 1.4.
Odd maps, though. They seem to be made from/for a person with slightly hairy and very VERY VERY dry skin, judging from the detail that you can see at default settings. Neither of which is Malik.
I think it is the total number of pro bundles you own that matters, regardless of gender. For Babina I think the rule was 10% off for having 5 pro bundles, and 20% off for ten or more. The rule for Silas may be the same.
Malik HD with Silas 8 skin.
Nope, not just you...was thinking the same. Also, Malik reminds me a little of Djimon Hounsou
Only got the base character, and took him for a run. He happily posed amongst grass and flowers for me :) Enjoy ^^
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that was the only option you wanted. I was just trying to point out that it is very difficult to find the base photographs of models of black men whose facial hair would be smooth enough to pass as children because of the way our facial hair grows. There also aren't large portions of skin that could be cloned to cover the facial area. Unfortunately, there are a few of the bundle characters that would not make great children and teens including Vladamir, Mabel, Mr. Woo, and Mrs. Chan.
It's more about the lack of when it comes to male packages and the overall 'deal with it' attitude.
Characters are sold at the same $ figure and there is no parity. Owen 8 comes with 5 tattoo options in addition to same base items as Silas. Nix came with human and alien presets, plus the spine piece. That, to me, puts them closer to the level of the female characters that come with 6 make-up options. When a male like Silas comes out as a bare bones figure for the same price, it doesn't feel fair to me.
The smooth option was just an off the cuff variant of what I thought could have been an additional option. The challenges you cite to making that are reasonable and understandable. But I still want more for my money.
I just knew it, I did see this guy IRL:
John Lundvik - Swedish contestant in the Eurovision 2019:
Just the eye colour and the lower lip need some fixing!

i broke down and bought the pro along with malik. did not buy the Silas HD, but now 2 characters are HD in this package plus Malik . I should be sort of complete for characters now... i hope. How many do you need really with all the morph kits available?
So, I absolutely love Malik, but haven't made up my mind yet on purchasing Silas. I don't quite yet understand how this works. Can he be used with the generic Genesis 8 male at all, or must I purchase Silas? Thanks!
He can be used without Silas but he will look a bit different. Here's a quick render of Malik's face without Silas installed and one with Silas installed.
^Without Silas.
^With Silas.
Wow! Malik looks awesome with Silas's skin textures.
Anyone know what this beard and moustache are?
Also these pants?
thx
The hair might be Stylish Hair and Beard.
Omg thank you so much for doing that! I think I will go ahead and get him.
