It saddens me a bit that we've reached a time when some people no longer recognize one of the more notable cinematic sci-fi designs.

I've actually read a comment in which the person thought somebody merely tore off the solar panels of a T.I.E. fighter.

In their defense, it was over 50 years ago.

    So was the TARDIS.

I was so disappointed to discover that the TARDIS was not a spacetime machine.surprise  It was just a British policebox that played a spacetime machine on TV. devil

But I understand that 50 years can seem like a lifetime, especially when you're 8.  When I was 8, the thought of 50 years ago would place me just a few years after leaving the 1800's.surprise  Back when all people older than my parents wore funny clothes and drove cars(essentially horseless carriages) with cranks & wooden tires, on unpaved roads, if they even had cars instead of a horse and buggy.  Ancient history!  Now StarTrek is 54 years old.
