OK, I don't see either of them in the downloads folder...
Is that the "A Grand Entrance" product?
I don't even see "A Grand Entrance" listed in the DIM downloads folder.
A check of the product page shows I purchased it - but I can't find it in any of my orders, but there should be older orders listed somewhere...
Edit to add:
I also can't download & install from the order page - it takes me to an error page:
A Grand Entrance is in http://www.daz3d.com/platinum-club-mega-pack The file name should be as in the log entry.
OK, that's the order.
A search of the DIM downloads folder for "mega" finds IM00012286-01_MegaBrushes2.dsx & .zip.
Which are not the ones I need...
Where does DIM get the list of downloads waiting to be downloaded and installed from DAZ?
Does it then use that to create the download list in DIM?
Edit to add:
I just did a random search for the other products in the order - and none of them seem to be in the download folder!
Is there possibly a downloading problem at the DAZ side?
OK, I may have found the problem!
I ran the DIM as Administrator - and it is downloading and installing now...
Edit: and it just finished...
So now, why does it require running as Admin? Is there some way to change that?
I don't need to run DIM as admin (though I am using an admin account). As long as you have access to the folders - which you should, since they are in Public Documents by default - it should work as far as I am aware.
Although products may be in a bundle, they will usually appear in DIM (and your Product Library page) as the original items. That way there's only one item to keep updated.
I'll probably be purchasing some more product in the next few weeks, I'll see what happens then.
Hopefully this may have just been a very annoying fluke...
Your path is wrong -- it should be C:\Users\Public, not C:\Users\OrcaSoul\Public. So it isn't actually in the Public folder and you need Admin rights to write to it.
Actually i have read that any path is OK, as long as it exists.
More to the point, however, is the fact that my original path was "C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\", and the DIM would not accept the "Public Documents", and Win7 would not let me add another "Documents" at that level.
I think it's in the instructions for setting up the path...
Any path is okay as long as it's writeable -- paths under a specific user account aren't.
"Public Documents" and "Documents" should be synonymous in the C:\Users\Public hierarchy.
Well, on my system they were not. That's what I have to work under...
There is a good explanation of the file paths with a diagram here
It clearly shows the C:/users/orcasoul/ is legit.
Was there a change in DIM about a month ago?
I have two directories with little files in them but they're not the same. There's the teeny ones that are saved with the download file in the directory I told DIM to download files to. Then there are the slightly larger files (the manifest files) in a folder in public documents.
There's no correspondence between date or prod ID on the two sets of little files that I can see.
Anyway when sorted by date, the manifest files start from the time I started with DIM to today. The download folder's little files, however, end almost exactly a month ago. I've certainly downloaded several files in the past month.
(I had noticed in the last few weeks that DIM was opening a bit more quickly than it used to and isn't spending minutes hitting one/both (I assume) of those directories before it opens.)
Can someone explain? Thanks.

C:\users\orcasoul\documents is legit -- that's a designated location for user documents. C:\users\orcasoul\public is a non-standard location which may need elevated privileges.
Those are two different files, although they use the same name. The ones that are in the Downloads folder are the ones downloaded along with the product. The larger ones in the ManifestFiles folder are the record of what was actually installed by DIM. The files in ManifestFiles are written only when you install something with DIM; the ones in the Downloads folder may get rewritten whenever DIM receives an update to them when connecting to DAZ 3D.

OK, I'll check that out...where do I do that?

Okay, thanks. So, I'd still like to know why I don't have any in the Downloads folder for the past four weeks?
Oh, wait. If you tell DIM to delete the downloaded file after you install, does it also delete the other little file? I did change that option but I don't remember when.
AND IF those files are deleted along with the zip, is it then okay to delete the other 6000 'orphan' little files I have in that folder? (I had been backing up then deleting the zips prior to telling DIM just to go ahead and delete).

That sounds likely. You can delete the old ones that are left over from things you've installed.
Great! Thanks, Mike
Now that I have the DIM working with the downloads it can work with I need to reorganize the older products I have spread all over the place.
First order, put them in one folder per vendor. Have to search and find them, then move them. No sweat.
Second order, sort through to put the products with several versions in order.
Third order, pull out the ones that might be included in the DIM downloads...which brings up a question:
Is there any easy way to do this except by doing a manual comparison between the lists?
I have some 2000+ older products, going through manually would be mind-numbing.
One thing that occurs to me is the date of the download...is there a specific date when all the products were included in the DIM inventory?
That would make the task much easier.
It's recommended that you use the My DAZ 3D Library which is the default library for DIM. If you use that then you don't have to uninstall anything. You you are set on using My Library for your downloads then uninstall all your DAZ 3D content from that folder. This will avoid conflicts once you install from DIM. I really suggest using the DIM default library and add it to DS
If I read this correctly, the DIM downloaded (by DIM) files go in:
c:/users/OrcaSoul/Public/Documents/DAZ3D/InstallManager/IM00000029-01_TableProps...
The Pre-DIM DAZ 3D manually downloaded (the old system) source files go in:
c:/users/OrcaSoul/Public/Documents/DAZ3D/Pre_DIM/10148_1_dpc_GardenEscapeBridge_1...
And 3rd Party installers could go in:
c:/users/OrcaSoul/Public/Documents/Vendors/RDNA/ZPI_FantasyBanquet...
And ALL of the "content" can go in the same folder along with the DIM content?
C:\Users\OrcaSoul\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library/....
Or...would it be better to keep the non-DAZ content separate?
C:\Users\OrcaSoul\Public\Documents\My RDNA Library./...
It's advisable to install DIM and non-DIM content in separate content folders (but not mandatory).
If you want to use the Users hierarchy, it should be either Users\OrcaSoul or Users\Public, not both.
OK, thanks - the helps.
Gee, another new project!
New problem...
I have the product "Killer Whale", and it shows up in the list of products installed by the DIM.
But, when I go to DAZ Studio and search products for Animals/Real World/Water, I do not see it.
I can, however, find the character in the Library on the right...
DIM says it is installed, I checked the folder and the files are there, in the correct path.
I uninstalled and then re-installed it - no change.
I ran both DIM and DS as Administrator.
In DIM, in the column before the "i" column, items which come with metadata have a check mark -- Killer Whale doesn't, so it won't show up in Smart Content or in the default categories.
Oh...that makes sense.
Does this mean that DIM includes ALL my purchased DAZ products from the beginning, or is there a cut-off somewhere?
If there is, is there a list?
It should be nearly all content, most of the things missing are older software.
OK, thanks - how "old" is too old?
It doesn't have DS2 or DS3, for example.
If you go to your Product Library and type
dim::false
in the filter box, it'll list products that aren't in DIM; however, it will also list bundles which have their own pages in the Product Library, even though the individual products in the bundle may all be in DIM.
Great! Thanks - that saves me a lot of work!
Now I can start making "art"...:-)
It does have DS3 if you bought the Advanced version ... just a small info.
