[Self edit] - kank' da cranks.
I've spent 24 hours of my life reading this thread and responding. Most of my responses I don't post. Why am I here? Honestly I don't know. It doesn't matter what I think. It only matters what I buy, when, and for how much. I'm getting really tired of sales and gimmicks, but at the same time when all these dollars off on the bottom line of an order during a sale go away I don't feel like buying anymore. So DAZ has to keep pumping the adrenaline. They're stuck. I'm stuck.
My main complaint with DAZ these days is that they're too safe with their content. No, I don't mean what you might think I mean. I mean safe as in expected and almost trite. The fantasy creatures are almost all menacing and evil. (There are exceptions, like Squee, that just prove the rule.) There are some DAZ vendors that also sell elsewhere and other vendors DAZ doesn't seem to have courted that have very interesting content that doesn't seem to interest the DAZ folks. Do you want me to name names? Perhaps not.
But take Dinoraul whose offerings here are mainly straight dinosaurs with a smattering of menacing fantasy creatures. But at another store he sells more creatures that never existed and I pick up as many as I can and they're NOT all menacing or evil. Not to mention Dinoraul's TREES. Have you seen his bristlecone pine? OMG that thing is unbelievable but I've seen photos of those things and they ARE all twisted like that. This will probably get me in trouble but I get everything by 1971s, Poisen (evil, yes, but in a very creative way), Nursoda, Flink, the combo of 3DTM and Judibug textures for the DAZ K4 and other sweet liittle figures, LadyLittleFox. Here I grab all from 3DUniverse, Stonemason, AntFarm, Predatron, AM, AoA, Andrey Pestroyakov (who has my favoritist name in the universe to say out loud). Of course DAZ specializes in the human figures and I support that (and there IS more contemporary clothing now than ever before) but my heart is with the fun, neat, quirky, odd, warm, animals, critters, and the forest.
And a couple more vendors who used to be here that for one I had every single product and for the other all but two or three of dozens. They pulled their entire catalogs and went elsewhere. We're not supposed to name them or where they went and because of that I only found out accidentally. DAZ you didn't stop me from spending money there, you just delayed it a bit AND MADE ME FURIOUS FOR YOUR DOING SO.
Okay. I feel better now. I shared some of the things that bring me joy and some that annoy. Now to see what's new in the store.
Where did you read that?
The consensus I read was that some people prefer a fixed price (2.99 WAS mentioned) - and some like the advantage to use coupons on PA items.
Which is the majority? That will be seen ...
(and I still think the 6 weeks are too short, but that is just me)
It didn't work for me - because I don't like being manipulated.
Sure, Daz wants to sell (and I like to buy *grin*)
but Marketing techniques like "some will raise in price, but we don't tell you which ones" were making me stubborn and not buying at all.

I would agree. I prefer a fixed price to a percentage price. I like to know what I'm going to pay.
Also I remember when the value club came out. I didn't like it. I would have prefered that the price just went up to $2.99 rather than oh we don't know which item, buy them all. Didn't encourage me to rush out and buy anything but I suppose I'm probably a very unusual shopper.
We are looking at ways to implement this .. In the short term we may just add this info manually to the description, that is not an optimal way to do it though.. at anyrate we will be talking to Web about this.
Weeeellllll, for a start it might work to add the end date to the rotating banner ... just an idea.
I read somewhere in this hot mess something about introducing more tiers: $1.99 $2.99 $3.99 $ e.tc $e.tc
I thought that was a SIMPLE idea that could work and give creators more flexibility and could even give us some nicer things to play with.
Maybe some more creators would put their toes in the PC pool.
But definitely be upfront about it. No vague mysterious shiftings of doom.
People seem to hate that.
That was in http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/628795/ , but don't know if it has been noticed by Daz people.
Hrrmm .. Paint me confused. Got the new ad and checked it out:
First three items listed
Logged in to my account with PC club plus
Sultry Hair $2.37
Hawthorn Hair $2.37
DM's Secret Chamber $2.09
Logged out of my account
Sultry Hair $2.00
Hawthorn Hair $2.00
DM's Secret Chamber $2.99
Something is wrong here. I pay more for being a plus member? This can't be correct. Seems the lowest price, be it sale price or plus price would be the correct price.
These hair items have one for Genesis and Genesis2, the other for V4.
There is currently 80% off many V4 items for everyone, are you sure you are looking at the same one on each occasion?
That was in http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/628795/ , but don't know if it has been noticed by Daz people.
I think they were asking for feedback to be sent via the feedback box here: http://www.daz3d.com/subscription/
I have already reported this with a screenshot to customer support yesterday. For some reason, you get 88% off when you are not logged in, and 86% off of the same item when you are logged in as PC-member.
My ticket hasn't been pickt up so far for processing, I guess after the weekend is over?
In any case, it appears to be a glitch in the shop... because if not, then that would seriously make me think about buying content here again.
Same here. That is wonky to say the least. If that pricing is how it stands, it's cheaper to create a new non club account and buy things. I hope it's an error because if it's not ...well that's just unthinkable that Daz would reward club members with that kind of service. Makes other buyer clubs look a bit more attractive.
Except that after letting a monthly membership lapse there was a $29.95 start-up fee, so it's actually cheaper to join for a single quarter now than it was to join for a single month then.
I would still really like some examples of what is considered a "huge environment" and a pose pack. Recently released examples, no something like the MilEviro and wolf poses. Who decides how valuable another persons time is or is not?
Why drag the PA's into the PC. Keep them separate. Oh, yes, right now there's this big list of PA's who want it but how long will they stay when they look at their bottom like and, maybe see that being part of it isn't adding to it? Answer, if the PA's take too big a hit participating, they'll get out. Anyone who has been around since DAZ created FastGrab knows what I'm talking about. When FastGrab started there were PA's up the yazoo. Items were offered with either a time limit or specific number (sometimes both). I picked up a lot of items at some excellent prices. Then it began to die out. Many PA's stopped participating, time limit's and numbers disappeared. Now, you pretty much see the same participating PA's and the same products. If I see Starla hair or Starla colors one more time, I'm going to scream. Since I only have past examples to go by, I wonder if the shiny new PC Plus won't end up in similar straits in a few years. Difference is, I can chose not to by FastGrab items and not be out anything. If I pay my PC membership and I end up with the same handful of PA catalogs, I'm stuck. Yes, I know, I can cancel. Or at least they say I can cancel. We've already seen the beginnings of a "no return" policy. What's to say that there won't end up a "you paid for it, you're stuck with it" policy in the future.
Yes, this is the cynic's viewpoint.
Not so, sure I cannot use coupons spent again this month but I am logged now and there are five full pages each with about 60 listings for $1.39. Then after these pages of $1.39 they go to those for $2.09 and gradually increase their price. I can buy all of them right now for these prices. That is better than $1.99.
Can you post what the original prices were for these products. From my understanding, with PC+ ,the highest possible discount is 79% so would that make the $1.39 items originally about $6.95? Are they PC, DO or PA items? I'm just trying to work out why these prices are so low while others are reporting prices of $4-5 for PC items after joining PC+.
Weren't all of the $1.39 items $1.39 to pc members anyway because of the 80% off V4/M4 sale? With one exception all those prices have stayed the same for me.
That's probably right. If that's the case then it doesn't reflect the normal price of PC+ items. I still don't understand the 79% max PC+ discount that's been spoken of.
Ditto. The sales have too many rules and restrictions. Not fun anymore. On the other hand, it's been easy to save money with these sales. Because I don't buy much anymore. EDIT(forgot my point): I don't want to need a calculator and spreadsheet to figure out how much each item is going to cost me, especially if I'm already paying to be in a club for the savings.
The "normalcy" will come in July. when all the shiny new coupons are used and members are suddenly looking at prices they are not used to paying.
Granted, if you buy a PC release within the two week intro period, you don't have to pay too much more but then there's that last minute I-need-this-item to complete the scene. Suddenly instead of clicking on the PC and picking up the prop/hair/pose/texture/outfit for $1.99 you find it's over $5.
That's when it will really start to sink it.
Hi. I like fixed prices but I'll buy less the higher the prices go.
I don't like confusing sales and stacking sales or having to spend more money just to use a limited coupon, or having to hunt for items that give me the highest % off when mixed together at the time of checking out, i'm way to grumpy and have the attention span of a gnat for all that nonsense.
The PC+ just seems to be offering some of the advantages that we had with the original PC before the store update but with limited use and at a higher price to the members.
I can't believe I didn't come here and read this thread first! I guess in all the excitement of something new and shiny, I forgot where I was!
I stopped in and bought, End of Summer Hair for Genesis and Genesis 2 Female(s). I had been putting it off. I happily paid my $1.99.
Then I jumped into the Beta PC+ and OMG..... it jumped up to $5.08!!!
I can't believe I didn't come read about this in advance..... :( (very sad indeed)
Well, PC members have been wanting to be able to use coupons on PA items all along - it's one of the most frequent requests any time the structure of the PC is discussed (impression, not fact) so while the structure isn't as simple as the old PC voucher this does seem to be a desired change, and hopefully that means it will be an attractive change for PAs too and we will see many of them continue to participate. But the PAs are the third group that is going to be looking at how this beta programme plays out, along with DAZ itself and the PC membership, so as Jack and Laurie have stressed nothing is yet fixed.

I agree. The sales have become too complicated for me so I don't even look at them.

Well ... I DID spend a lot on the no nonsense, no frills summer clearance sales. LOL
More than I spent on the Summer thingie (only bought two things - one of them free - Mec4D's).
Prices are going up everywhere. I think most have noticed. The people at Daz and the content providers need food, clothing, and shelter just like the rest of us. Unfortunately for many of their customers, wages are not going up as fast as prices. This puts the customers in a bind. Daz is trying visibly to blunt the increase prices. But they cannot completely disregard them. Not many companies even try.
Just do it! If I find it works for me then I'll stay if it doesn't then I'll go! We all get pay raises from time to time and its a fact of life that everyone needs more and gets more or moves along to something else!!

Well said :P
My $0.02 impressions from PC+ offers so far are negative.
1) First of all, new PC+ scheme is needlessly complicated.
Just like with recent point-gathering, percentage-hoarding sales (from which I opted out every single time I could), the new scheme has benefits only for people who are ok with spending time of their life watching and compiling discounts so they can add those 70% to sale there and sale here. Without price watching new offers can't compare to current ones, price-wise.
Not only such behaviour requires time dedication that I don't have, it also took out all the fun from the sales for me, even when I had the time. Aside of all head-aching math involved, with webbed promotions like that there is always a nagging feeling that I could have shaved some more savings off somewhere still or if I waited a bit more, which diminishes my satisfaction from the purchase. As DAZ3D site is a mess with no tools for proper prices update and sales feedback, it is hard to be in touch with all price changes across the store, and sale things applying to that product but not to that, or that, and you need to buy this to get that, etc etc. Bugs and glitches and human errors in pricing certainly don't help.
As it stands now PC is the only place on DAZ3D site where I can get consistent, flat, no-nonsense prices and timing with open and uncomplicated rules. PC+ would take that away. Saying that, PC+ scheme won't make me come more often on the site to watch and compile percentages, and wait for flash sales in order to maximize my savings. It will make me buy much less, as it already happened with punch sales and new releases.
I love simplicity of current PC. With flat rates I can drop in any moment in two weeks, just grab items, check them out, and download them with full knowledge that I didn't lose anything for not being on the site 24/7. Yeah, I might be miss some 50% off PC sales, but this isn't that big deal as I usually buy PC items within two weeks of release or don't buy them at all unless by lucky chance or big necessity.
Just to give a bit of insight on how mainstore 'punch' sales affected my buying: until last December (I believe) there was rarely a month I went under $100 in my DAZ3D purchases, but since then there were months where I spend about $30 and most of months I spend under $70.
My budget for 3D stuff didn't change but I just don't want to get entangled in overly complicated DAZ3D sale schemes. So, I don't visit this site any more often I want to, I don't compile savings, I don't do price-watching, I don't buy. PC as it is, remains my only impulse-buying department _because_ it is stable, open, uncomplicated place with good prices.
2) PC+ offers aren't appealing for all drawbacks they impose
Judging from the text, strongest new benefits of PC+ seems to be new applicability of old coupon and PA discounts. The second $6 coupon that requires $18 purchase isn't as much a straight benefit (i.e. tied directly to subscription and offered to with no additional thresholds) as kickback from purchases alike we have from all those 'punch' sales albeit slightly more profitable to the consumer.
New drawback is unstable PC+ price, and this is a huge one.
Not only percentages are wobbly by themselves (and again, require price-watching and math = no fun in order to maximize savings), but as it was noticed, base prices can be raised up at the single decision of DAZ3D, with customers having no control, no word to say about those raises except of quietly quit buying.
And base prices will be raised. Despite that new tools are making the production of new items actually easier than it was years ago, base prices will be raised sooner or later, for this or that reason, so that $16 price for the prop set or outfit will become $20 and maybe $25. So at the long run 70% off items won't stay $5 as they are now.
Also, in order to keep profit margin, participating PAs will have to raise their base prices as well to compensate for that $6 coupon and 30% discount.
Nobody will be able to hold DAZ3D accountable for the the instability of PC+ prices. The base price will be left sorely at the DAZ3D goodwill. Which, as DAZ3D is a business company out to maximize its own profit, won't be all that great and I'm speaking from years of experience. Non-PC DOs prices were always inflated to compensate for big enticing sales percentages ($20 base price for a single short dress without sleeves, full of holes, with one texture and no shoes?) and this policy will be carried to PC+ catalog if past experience with DOs is to believe.
Also, it is nowhere said that 70% PC+ discount will stack with any other sale aside of intro sale. Will it stack with 30% intro sale on DOs AND 30% off PC+ DO regular discount to total of 30%*30%*70% off? What if PC+ DOs will go on sale for 60%, will it stack with those 70% and 30%? Hard to believe it will. Even FastGrab DO discounts aren't stacking with 30% off DO that current PC has, although, as by written rules, they should have been.
With flat rates we at least had some assurance about how things are going to be, even with Value category introduction. More wibbly-wobbly things in sales isn't my ideal of shopping.
New benefits aren't really benefits to me either.
- Participating PA 30% off on rotation basics.
Firstly, If PA item didn't entice me at the intro 30% sale, it won't entice me any further unless the discount is much steeper to trigger possible impulse-buying. To stack those PC+ 30% with possible other PA sales, will require from me to watch sales and do math, which is time-consuming, cumbersome, clumsy and boring thing to do. Again, there is not a single guarantee that participating PAs won't raise their base prices to keep profit margin in light of new discounts. So 30% off PA off for me is mostly good on old PA items, from which I already mostly have what I need/want.
Secondly, code word is participating PAs. Complications of that are that PAs I like might be not participating. Or even items from PA that are participating might be excluded from this particular promotion - there are no confirmation anywhere that ALL future or even new items (60 days or newer) from participating PAs will be included in PC+ discount scheme. There is no guarantee that participating PAs I like won't drop from the PC+ scheme, robbing me, as a customer, of benefit of their presence. There is no guarantee that current rotation of 30% PC+ PAs will ever collide with any other PA sales for any stacking to get any actual benefit beyond 30% off.
All and all this is a very unpredictable 'benefit' which offers nothing of actual benefit at its core and is very chancy in all other respects.
- $6 DO coupon good on not-new PC as well as DOs.
Since January 2014 it was first time in my 7+ years in PC that PC coupon went unused (twice) because there was noting interesting in DOs to buy. Aside of lack of interesting DO items, not-new PC participation seems to be ok but with unavoidable swelling in prices on PC+ items it might get me is maybe one old item per month (and with unstable PC+ base prices it might not get even this). Because currently I mostly buying PC items on release, I don't have that many old PC I like or need. Useful, but not very exciting.
There is also a darker side to this PC+ coupon. Say, if in new PC+ releases I see the item I really like and want to buy, my choice of action won't be to buy it immediately, but wait 60 days and get it with coupon. Which means, that all, say, male items won't be bought by me on release, which will persuade DAZ3D that those items aren't popular with customers. It will distort feedback of statistics that PC/DAZ3D people collect on popularity of that or this release precisely because new PC+ coupon it would make it so.
3) There is no clarity about how new PC+ scheme will be implemented. It has all chances to be very customer-unfriendly experience.
With no clarity on those matters I can fully expect that once extremely brief beta-testing of PC+ is done, PC+ will be forced upon me regardless if I want it or not.
The worst case scenario is that I will have no choice. One day I go to bed, come back to store next morning and BAM! all PC+ items $5+. I'm pretty sure this way will be against the USA consumer laws.
The bad case scenario is a choice to opt in this PC+ scheme or opt out and get a refund of time left in my PC subscription. It will be bitter, sad farewell. I'm somewhat sure that this way would also be against USA consumer laws.
Better case scenario would be to be allowed to keep my regular PC subscription (one coupon, PC 1.99 prices, etc) until it gently expires into the February night and only give an opportunity to renew as PC+. I won't renew as PC+ but at least I will have time to emotionally detach myself, do some last-ditch buying and bid farewells to the place I was with since 2006-2007.
Best case scenario (from customer's point of view) is to run both schemes, PC and PC+, in parallel but, as it was noticed somewhere in this thread, as it stands now, DAZ3D has little financial reason to do it this way.
Alternative would be to really make PC+ what its name suggest: an addition to a regular PC scheme, a 'plus' pack. So for people who want to watch PA sales, and compile percentages instead of flat rates, and spend $18 each month for additional $6, and so and so, can upgrade PC into PC+ for some additional price to their subscription. And people who like PC will just stay with PC with flat rates and no PA carousels.
Since my last February renewal PC slowly gained emotional ground back from me. Released were medium to great, I didn't miss wasted PC coupons all that much because PC releases were good, etc. I bought many PC items on release not because I needed them or used them, but because the price-point, stability and directness of PC catalog were all much more enticing than complicated 'punch' sales and mediocre DOs. And now it all going to go away one way or another.
I keep hearing things like this and it sounds to me as if people believe that DAZ would intentionally do something that would hurt us and that because we are being hurt by participating we will end up opting out. Part of why this is a test is to make sure that it will not do that and if for some insane reason it were to be negative for PA's that would be one reason to rethink things. DAZ is actually quite good to the PA's and does want us to do well. Also the vast majority of the PA's who are participating are also the PA's who release new products most regularly. Meaning it won't be the same old stuff because new products are added all the time.
As far as fastgrab goes it is a different system to get things into it and I think because of that less people participate or they go with a flash sale instead. PC+ is far easier to participate in than ether of those and with 117 already participating (at last released count) there is also less risk of over exposure due to it.
After reading this thread I'm not seeing many people who place a high value on the PA discounts or their products so it may not matter to many people if there is an incentive from the PA's or not. A bit surprising because in the past so many people indicated that they wanted it back. And a bit disheartening really since it sounds as if there is little value found in PA products overall by many people who have posted.
