...yeah here the 3090 is either unavailable (Newegg) or grossly overpriced (upwards of 2,500 to even 3,000 USD (Amazon)..
Still $1499 at Best Buy online for the FE when they get them in, but they go super fast. You can see they sell them as the user reviews keep getting added to...632 reviews so far. I came close one time several weeks ago.
One just dropped on the 9th of this month, and also Jan 5th and the 22nd, I got my 3090FE at MSRP at HotStock via Best Buy on the 5th, so it IS possible to snag one instead of resorting to buying off of scalpers!
Also, do not buy anything on newegg as their customer service and overall reliability took a serious nose-dive ever since they were bought out; just read up on the newegg subreddit (r/newegg) and you'll be better educated by their overall craptacularity!
...I quite recently (within the last month) purchased a couple items, including a new display to replace a burnt out one, and had no issue with delivery times or DOA components. Amazon has been more "iffy" and often times more expensive. Also I've seen where some people ordered something branded as "new" but actually was a return. Furthermore is no control as to where an item originally ships from (I refuse to make any purchases from overseas vendors due to longer shipping times and higher risk of damage in transit).
Newegg's main facility is just down I-5 from where I live and I always make sure what I order is available at and shipped directly from them and not a third party contractor.. It does limit the choice at times but I've never had an issue with them that required filing support tickets.
Checked HotStock and Best Buy is out of stock. Only eBay indicates 3090s are available but all at ridiculously jacked up prices just like Amazon.
I'm patient, I'll wait for the A5000 to roll out, besides like I mentioned, it's a smaller card (standard dual slot) and has consumes less power. I still have my old Titan X, which does pretty well for a 3 generation old GPU.
Looks like Crypto mining is on the rise again, and that is adding to the problems for GPUS, high-capacity power supplies, and even mining frames. I was about to buy a cheap $30 mining frame rig so that I could prototype a multi-gpu setup without worrying about things fitting. Suddenly the prices shot up. That same frame is now $129 to $250. The used Telsa MP-40s I was watching have gone way up, and few are available.
People on forums claimed that the new 3000-series GPUs are very cost-effective for Ethereum and other "newer" cryptos, and one guy said he can make $17 a day with a 3090. It is also rumored that NVIDIA is looking at once again making "headless" boards optimized for mining. I take all these claims and rumors as just that until I see some proof.
I really don't want to compete with the Crypto folks again, but at least that will give me more time to same up.
..something I noticed last time around miners tended to stay away form the Quadro line, primarily because of the price.
I got my RTX 3080 when it just came out, was a present from my husband, and, I am very happy with it.
This is just a hobby for me, I am not a content creator and do not need to make dozens of promo images, so, I am very happy with what I have an do not need more :)
