Hey, AM — Werewolf of my dreams, man!

Yes yesyes!! AM, you are my hero! I've been waiting for that dire wolf for 20 years! Mwah!

I do a LOT of werewolf covers for Changeling Press, and half my own characters are werewolves, including the latest. But I never have found a CGI one that looks RIGHT. Rendering her now, and she is PERFECT! She was worth buying the new pro bundle all by herself! Will post the image when it finishes. Freya just happens to look like the Sidhe goddess in my book, so it's a two-for one deal.

A happy, HAPPY Damsel.

I'm happy to hear that, waitimg too see the images you will produce!

  • Awesome product. The fur is smooth and fantastic (I used dForce).

And the eyes have a realistic look   !!! Thank you for such a product.

What?  Werewolf?  Where?!  Oh, wait, the "Dire Wolf".

I didn't catch that critical term at first and assumed Alessandro had released an actual "werewolf" figure.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

  • The direwolf looks interesting and I love the texture quality/fur. The hairless dire looks weirdly vertical, but the fur hides it.

Only thing I'd note, is that the poses are forcing the direwolf generic shape.

    But in general, I'm loving having an updated AM quality wolf in Dog 8. Allows me to do stuff like this;

It does look good and is the best on store, but i wish it had a bit more hair volume and more of a clumped/scraggly look to some areas of the fur (like the way the Brown Bear's hair looks, which is more clumped and scraggly, and i think looks more natural).I might be able to add some more hair/clumps with SBH to certain areas.

  • Sometimes, "werewolf" is human and wolf... not human-wolf hybrid. Depends on the story, the mythos.

When you have a heroic/protagonist character as werewolf, the wolf form is rather more interesting than the hybrid, I think. That human-wolf hybrid is rather more monstrous, whereas the human to wolf full transformation is a lot more... pure? It accommodates more nature in the supernatural than that weird middle thing.

And, a full wolf isn't necessarily any less dangerous than a hybrid creature. Put a human around a pack of angry wovles, and the wolf is probably going to have the human for a meal.

So, anyway, werewolves aren't just that hybrid thing in the werewolf genre. The monster werewolf? Sure... but heroic werewolves are not necessarily a monster hybrid.

You could probably play around with the clump and scraggle settings on the surfaces tab.

Personally, I'm more excited to use the Dire Worlf as a Warg for Lord of the Rings fanart, etc. They range from crazy hyena-monster things to more wolf in shape so this will be perfect for the wolfy ones.

BONUS - Because this is for Dog 8, you can use this preset on the other shapes as well...

Within UV limits. Like almost all Daz Dog products, it has its own UVs. Mind, with some finagling, you CAN absolutely use it with other dazdog8 textures.

By saying that, you're implicitly admitting that a full wolf IS less dangerous than a hybrid creature.

Well, the hybrid thing is usually made to look scary (and necessarily more dangerous), where the wolf is often thought of like a dog (and more friendly/nice).

Reality (in the fiction) is that humans are going to get eaten if the werewolves are mad at them, in any case. :)

...a little aside, but just wondering.  A year or so ago didn't I see something about plans to work on a new small Cat?

I think AM only does wild animals/

Maybe he will consider a bobcat? A Serval with a short legged version? A Scottich Wildcat?

AM has mentioned more than once that I've seen that he's working on some domestic animals.

For as much as I love cats, one of the reasons I've always had indoor cats that are spayed. I like birds and other wildlife too ;).

Here's my Dire Wolf. Funnily enough, the werewolves in my Mageverse series (written as Angela Knight) are called Dire Wolves or Direkind. So I liked that. I'm still really pleased. Took six hours to render, but that wasn't that far out of line considering the size of the image.

That's a nice render, can I ask what the geometry load was with the fully furred wolf? I like is, but I only have a 6gb graphic card, so I'm leery of the super furry animals.

I do see your point but I think you're over-generalizing, speaking from my own experience. We live out in the country and have (and have always had) an outdoor cat, partly to keep the mice at bay which would be quite impossible otherwise. The mice often get away though, mainly because most cats are real easily distracted. Same goes for the birds which are usually out of reach for any cat anyway, except for the poor young ones which fall out of the nest or which happen to be living in a bird house that some well-meaning but not so smart human has put up too low. There are sparrows living under virtually every eave of our house, despite our very active hunting cat(s). Blackbirds live in all the bushes, colonies of rabbits on the meadow on the other side of our fence. So really, outdoor cats are no 'scourge upon the wilderness' per se, that doesn't match my own experiences at all.

Especially not 3D cats right? Which is why we definitely need as many of these as we can get! wink

What's with all the cat and rabbit requests in a thread about his Dire Wolf? Everyone knows we need him to make sheep and lambs! laugh

  • Cats are amazing, remorseless killing machines... more impactful to ecosystems than wolves are!!!

They are perfect, cute, little predators.
