Love this wolf but Daz keeps crashing, tried dforce, crashed, I have LAMH2Iray tried that and message No cata compliant asset to render, hope someone can tell me what I'm missing.

Here's my Dire Wolf. Funnily enough, the werewolves in my Mageverse series (written as Angela Knight) are called Dire Wolves or Direkind. So I liked that. I'm still really pleased. Took six hours to render, but that wasn't that far out of line considering the size of the image.

That's a nice render, can I ask what the geometry load was with the fully furred wolf? I like is, but I only have a 6gb graphic card, so I'm leery of the super furry animals.

Did anybody have an answer to this? I don't mind if it takes a long time to render, I'm just hoping it will work at all.

    What kind of fur?  Dforce/Strand-based?

Seems like the regular dforce hair thing that the newer Dog 8 canids have. I don't know what you call it, but it's the dforce strand hair thing. (Not cloth simulation hair.)

The Dire Wolf a more furry animal, with longer fur/hair, so that's going to be rather heavier than the German Shepherd or other canids. I don't simulate these doggies, though, which makes it go faster. Yeah, the fur has dforce, but it looks fine without simulation. (I'm guessing mine would crash if I tried to simulate it, so I don't sim the fur.)

It's a lovely Wolf, with the look of scruffy/wild fur (unlike the dogs).

I have 2 older Nvidia card-- 3 or four years, and it was a six hour render. I'm not sure. I will say that I often render multi-figure images in layers. So I might render the girl and then the wolf. I also render .pngs so I can add backgrounds. I'll check the size of that file in the morning.

It's not a catalyzer fur. Just straight Daz dforce.

Thank you Damsel, I've tried dforce but the dog turns into a distorted hellhound with no fur.

Do you see the guide hairs in the preview window? (I had to add the fur separately after loading the wolf) And, just in case you didn't already know, you won't see the fur until you actually render. The Nvidia preview won't show it.

I had an issue where the fur was coming in so lightweight that you could see the body lines underneath. I remembered something about bumping up the Line Tesselation on the fur in the properties tab (four different fur parts - adjust them all). Rendering now, but early previews indicate exactly what I was hoping for - thick fur that is not thin enough to show the body outlines beneath. I went from Line Tesselation 1 and moved it to 3, which may have been overkill and I know it will bring some computers to their knees while increasing render time, but worth it as it renders away while I sleep.

    I absolutely LOVE this beast!

It does look good and is the best on store, but i wish it had a bit more hair volume and more of a clumped/scraggly look to some areas of the fur (like the way the Brown Bear's hair looks, which is more clumped and scraggly, and i think looks more natural).

I might be able to add some more hair/clumps with SBH to certain areas.

@lilweep See my post, with pictures, here in this thread and you can see how to get that thick, clumpy fur! (Hint: Line Tesselation bumped up from 1 to 3)

Maybe he will consider a bobcat? A Serval with a short legged version? A Scottich Wildcat?

Would be very interested in a Scottish Wildcat (sometimes called a "Highland Tiger", Fia-Chat or Cat Sith (supernatural version).

    Also any Bobcat, Lynx, etc.

i find the part around the next/face to look a bit unnatural.  it is the hair styling, the hair styling looks kind of planar and artificial.

i dont mean to be overly critical of this item, because i do think it is good - and i will play around with it.

It's a really beautiful wolf - but trying to render four of them AND an AM mouse crashes my PC every time. I finally succeeded by rendering the animals in pairs.

Oh I'd love a Wildcat smiley But if you want some fun, what about a Kellas Cat? Bigger than the Wildcat and Domestic cats.

I'll take that for sure!  There is some speculation that the Kellas Cat is the real inspiration for the lore of the Cat Sith/Chat Sidhe.  The odd thing, to me, about the Kellas Cat is that it is apparently significantly larger than it's "parents".  I would love to see them steal a few hairs from the know specimens and sequence the DNA to try to confirm the parentage.  That technology is amazing.  My neighbor has a Golden Retriever that looks a bit smaller and someone oddly proportioned for that breed.  So, she paid to have the DNA sequenced.  The Vet told her that the analysis showed that the mother was a Golden Retreiver, and the father was a "very determined Chihuahua".

I think the reason they have decided it is a hybrid is they have sequenced the DNA from the few caught (dead) specimens. When I first heard of the Kellas cat they were still trying to deny it existed - I don't live that far from Kellas (which is next to Dallas ;-))

That would make sense. I will try to see if there are any papers on the genetics of the specimens.  Interesting.  Still wondering about the size.

One of the very scary characters in the Dresden Files series is Cat Sith.

You are from that area?  Cool!  Wow - Kellas is close to Dallas?.  So it is!  Learn something every day.  Only been to Scotland once, so still learning about local geography and such for an illustrated novel I am working on.

The new data on the pre-Celtic peoples in that area, from DNA sequencing of carbon-dated remains found near Neolithic sites is fascinating!  A possible connection between the henges/stone circles and Gobekli Tepe?  The true origin of both Red Hair and the "Black Irish"?  Maybe.  The more they find, the less I have to make up for my writing project. laugh

...I met both Wendy and Richard at VikingCon in Bwllingham WA. I still have all the orignal Black & White releases (#1 signed) as well as the four slipcase collections.  Even had a portait of Leetah I did published in the first edition of Yearnings

Would love to try and recreate someof the characters and scenes, would be a real challenge to keep them as close to the origial appearance.  May have to get Dog 8 now
