Why only US? Why do they ignore all other DAZ renderer from other parts of the world? Even so they sell their stuff all over the world? That is not fair and embarrassing for an international working company. A lot of game companies are able even to host charity donations that come in from all over the world oder hold contests for people from all over the world. So it is possible! We debated already options and what would be interesting to render, just to find out to be excluded completely. Not fair.
Also: why movember? They ignored breast cancer or cancer awareness month completely! Even so they sell many many female figures and a lot of the images show female characters.
well with the breast one it'd go against their rules same with facebook as for the cash price well they could've offered that has store credit like their other comps now that would be ok everywhere regardless where we lived wouldn't?
You're not representing Daz by entering a contest, so they probably have no interest in the content of your social media beyond ensuring they're not going to be tagging an account that posts nothing but explicit or distressing material. But since one of the benefits they mention is getting a social media shoutout, this is almost definitely aimed at artists who want to associate their art with their social media account and grow their following.
Yeah my Twitter is currently pretty much ALL politics and my followers are all following me because they like my politics not art, but not every follower sees every post, in fact they probably see very few since Twitter is so insane with posts right now. And to be honest, I don’t really want my art followers to know how I do things, I prefer it to remain a mystery. And of course, we can’t do political satire because that goes against Daz rules. I rarely render men anyway, so I’ll see if I can even come up with an idea!
Oh wait, I actually have a second account that I created as a PR account originally to promote a friend’s movie, so that’s perfect for this. I can do PR for Daz and myself coming from what looks like a PR company if Daz allows that. Do we need our actual name on the account?
one can still donate to Movember
and even grow a moustache and get your friends to sponsor you for the cause
I think Daz can just add a Store Credit prize for international participant. If the winners of this contest are not US citizens, then just convert the prize to Daz Store Credit. I'm not a US citizen, but I have participated and received Store Credit prize from Daz without any issue.
Regardless, if the prizes are the sole purpose of creating something creative and meaningful while having fun, one shouldn't participate. Let's face it, the chance that I'd win against hundreds of talented artists is practically zero. So I will still participate, and if I won the lottery and couldn't receive the prize, I would asked Daz to donate that to the Movember Foundation.
Totally agree. Earlier this year, Well Go was doing a fan art competition for Penninsula, the sequel to Train to Busan, to celebrate the film's release. I didn't even think of winning, I just wanted to do a piece based on a film series that I love that I rendered with Daz that would take me out of the normal stuff that I do and see what I could come up with. I ended up taking second place which was a huge surprise as I saw some of the other entries, but what was important was just doing something. And I look at this Movember contest as the same. I've been thinking hard since it was announced yesterday at what I could create that represents men's health and such to me just to take part. It's not about the end result and trying to win, it's about the process of creating which is what has brought us all here to Daz in the first place.
A burner account sounds good, actually. I don't see anything in the rules about using an actual name on my social media. (I'm definitely not a blue check Tweeter, LOL.)
I do have a new email I use for family stuff, so I that's a good choice for non-partisan, LOLcat video Twitter.
My "main" email account already is associated with Twitter, but someone else owns it (from some other country, where using Twitter is banned). It kind of confused me at first, but then I just kind of left it alone.
Why can't entries be posted here in the gallery? Every registered DAZStore user also can use the gallery, easy-peasy.
In regards to "US only" - that sucks, but I do see the legal issues that might cause problems there. It would've been cool to have a world wide contest, of course.
I didn't sign up for social media at first because I couldn't think what I would say that would be of any interest to the rest of the world. From what I have heard about it recently I don't think I want anything to do with it.
The first prize graphiics card loks great but I don't know if my computer could handle it. The Daz store credit prizes would always be welcome but I'm not interested in 6 months subscription for something that I would either have to stop using or keep on paying for.
I didn't notice the USA ony bit at the end until I read this thread. Looks like Daz aren't intersted in me for this anyway.
I think it's absolutely lousy that the Movember contest is only for US Citizens. There are so many people here from other Nations who support Daz despite the lousy exchange rates. I was excited because the prizes are really decent and even though I don't think I have a chance in H*ll of winning, I was going to try. It inspired me enough to even cancel the image I am working on and have rendered over the last three nights just to create something. I went to send a link to my hubby so he can try and that's when I noticed the US Citizens only notice
Congratulation ! Now I would love to see your entry :D.
Yeah a decent prize will encourage a lot of us to participate. I really hope Daz would allow the prize to be converted to Store Credits for international participant.
If the store credit amount exceeds a certain value, it matters not. It will still be counted for taxes and such here in the EU. You win anything valued over the legal limit, it gets taxed. You get taxed.
The problem for Daz, as far I understand this issue, may be the different legislation in each country concerning contests and lotteries. Imagine having to study the legislation in almost 200 countries and then submitting the required paperwork in an official language of each of these countries. Some may share English, French, German, Russian, etc., but still, many only have their own unique language.
Why isn't it a problem for Renderosity and other sites.
Lots of speculation here...
That's something I will never understand. Why ist it no problem at all for me to buy something in the US via Internet, no matter how high the price, but getting some money proves to be next to impossible?
Besides, does no non-US-citizen PA ever get so much money payed by DAZ? Or is it something entirely different to earn money by selling something to make artwork in contrast to winning money by providing artwork?
Just thinking ....
Don't forget that the contest has a physical prize, as well, so that would certainly run into customs and duty issues if one by someone outside the US. Has renderosity had a contest with physical prizes, of substantial value?
Sad it's only for US Citizens and I can´t participate, but it's a good cause and the main prize might be complicating it I guess.
Maybe in a future there will be something for the rest of the world.
@3DMinh Thank you! Here it is. Peninsula hadn't been released yet so not knowing the plot, I made a render of the woman and her now eight year old daughter and the girl from Train to Busan and where they might be in the world torn apart from the zombies years after the movie ended. I figured there'd be a lot of zombie art so I didn't want to include that. I'm very proud of it but, like I said, I was surprised after seeing some of the other submissions.
I'm thinking of doing an animation for the Movember contest since that is an option, gotta write a very short script now!
Exactly this. Same goes for Nvidia contests and Deviantart contests, Microsoft lucky draws, they all literally limit prizes for US citizens only because they hand out gadgets like graphic cards, tablets and similar on regular basis, it's nothing new with digital art contests. Software contests are less likely to impose these limits but there's still a legal barrier even with this and laws in other countries, this is nothing to blame Daz over, it's the legal thing.
Exactly. This is almost never a case of the company not caring about non-US customers. I've helped manage a lot of these where the choices came down to US only or not at all, and even trying to cover the territories we actually localize for in the EU is hard. Maybe once a year for a truly massive campaign we're able to justify the amount of weirdness that goes into it, and there are always places we just can't manage to legally operate contests in and it always sucks to disappoint those people. We're fortunate to have an EU office that can manage campaigns there, so we try to balance it out by running some EU-only giveaways.
Heh, it's a whole different world.. and that's why PA's have accountants etc.
If it's any consolation, the profits from our purchases are used to provide the prizes, so we are sort of able to participate.
I don't know. Maybe ask them? Maybe they just don't care and haven't run into any legal trouble yet? There are still websites that haven't adopted the required changes due to EU's GDPR, and they still can be accessed from the EU.
We have a saying here: "No plaintiff, no judge."
Good news for non-US residents interested in the contest: Daz just posted on social media that international submissions are now accepted.
Leana beat me to it!
As they said we have modified the Movember contest so Daz artists can participate! Submissions are now open internationally, check contest rules for details!
