    Which version is that? 4.15?
And how did you install it? Using DazCentral in Crossover?

Yes, the last version, runs properly, installed by DIM but I still have a problem, CMS database is not starting, and apparently UAC is ON (as Richard Haseltine suggested in this thread), but I don't use Windows and I don't know how to disable it. Regedit does not open, and I can't change this settings in Crossover (see screenshot). None of those sliders is moving at all.

Edit: I'm trying also with Wineskin (is free). I will post in this thread if I succeed.

  • Hi guys sorry im new here and to Daz3d so sorry If I sound somewhat uneducated lol Anyway I just got a new Apple Air with the M1 and of course it has Big Sur on it. I downloaded Daz3d and ended up troubleshooting my way here. My question is, I was going to be using DAZ3D along with some photoshop, is it possible for me (until the updated comes out) to just use DAZ3D on my older windows and then finish my projects using photoshop with my Mac? Sorry like I said im a beginner so be nice hehe

Sure.  The rendered images are free to travel wherever they like.

@Richard, Thanks a bunch. I don't exactly know how it happened since i have been playing with (combining) several builds trying to get 4.15.02 to launch and it did. Weird enough it has the same upsidedown background. I know something is different because the fan on this macbook is running crazy whereas if i launch 4.11 it doesnt have the same effect.

UAC is off already, I checked with regedit

That's the issue then - UAC off looks the same as running as administrator, it is using elevated privileges for everything. Turn UAC back on and you should be able to use the applications.

OK, thank you - though that is realy weird and unexpected by all I have gathered.

Thanks, I did give a try. Unfortunately doesn't work anymore because of it, see screenshots. With UAC off, DIM and DAZ Studio are working quite well, but the problem is the CMS database for smart content, doesn't start at all. And DIM doesn't allow to save the password at start.

  • It may well be that having run with UAC disabled the permissions are now wrong for running with it enabled. You might want to use the Take Ownership tool on the relevant files/folders in your %AppData%/daz 3d/ folder https://www.windowscentral.com/how-take-ownership-files-using-right-click-context-menu-windows-10

We may have stumbled on a working solution for the Mac version of Daz Studio 4.15.02 working on the Mac with BigSur. No more need to use Windows version.

    BETA TEST WARNING! Not Official
I have tested 4.15.0.2 with other users and it works fine, actually its faster. You will need to have 4.11.0.383 Pro installed to get this to work. Keep the 4.11 installed make a backup copy of the folder. Install 4.15.0.2 and confirm that it fails to start. Check that 4.11 will still starts then close the application. In the new folder containing 4.15, rename the DAZStudio application executable and copy the 4.11 DAZStudio executable into that folder. Launch the newly copied application and you are good to go. Let me know if you have any issues.

Please test your plugins and let us know if you have issues.

Don't know if this will be ever possible. Because there's no any graphics environment, is not possible to "right-click" anything. There is a very baseline explorer, I can try anyway. Thanks

    Hey everyone!

I didn't see anyone post this here so I am just gonna go ahead and do it. I am a Mac user who loves using DAZ for model posing for overpainting and base mesh creation.

As we all know Mac OS Big Sur doesn't work anymore due to missing legacy dependencies, so getting it to run won't work anymore (well for Mac version at least). So being the old-timey linux guy that I am who used to run Windows apps on Linux all the time due to fanboying I decided to just install the Windows version of Daz Studio 4.15 on Mac Big Sur, and sure enough I got it working in about 20 minutes (faster than a finicky DazCentral on a Friday lol). Anywho it works like normal aside from content CMS and PBR, but that just because I only fooled with this for about 20 minutes and posted this here so others can experiment and fix the issues I am too lazy too.

To get it working on MacOS Big Sur first follow the steps to install the version and engine of wine that is compatible with Big Sur here:

Jacob Townsend's video on how to install wine on Big Sur:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkQj0lZFz6I&ab_channel=JacobTownsend

After installing wine follow these steps:

    • Go to the manual downloads page on Daz Store and download the DIM installer for windows 64bit
    • Install it following the steps shown for installing an .exe as in Jacobs Video
    • Go back to the choose .exe option but this time go to the newly installed DIM.exe and open it
    • Now login like normal and use DIM to download DazStudio with the option to install after download.
    • Once it has finished, go back to the choose .exe option but this time choose the newly installed DazStudio.exe
    • Open it and let it do its usual load up processes and BAM!

  • Hah, I hadn't even considered trying Wine, good thinking. I rarely do actual full on renders on my Mac (as mentioned before, I use it for setup and then render on my desktop in bulk at a later time), so this could be a viable solution for me.

Thanks. I'm trying doing this for weeks now, I probably got the wrong engine. Working with Crossover but there's no way to access the database or starting CMS. I'm looking forward to try this.

yes. Fine with the right click but double clicking the .reg file, that doesn't work.

My issue would be that I don't have a copy of the 4.11 installation file, so I can not install 4.11 to begin with.
I would love to verify your work-around and provide feedback..

On another note: I have tried Crossover 20.2, too, and it does work, in a way. You can install DIM for win32 – 64 bit is not suppoorted under Crossover – and then you can install Studio (32-bit). The CMS does not work and you can only render using 3Delight or Multipass OpenGL (if you don't obscure the window). You can use DazStudio but it's not exactly useful. Don't buy Crossover just for this; use the wine solution then instead.

Are you really, absolutely, 100% sure you can install the win64 version? If I have to believe the internet, wine only does win 32bit well and 64bit.. well, not.
    Thanks for confirming.

Winetricks would probably allow you to input the missing PostgreSQL or somehow putting it in through the command line. Try that out and see if it solves your problem.

    New version of BigSur

Big Sur version 11.2 Beta (20D5042d) I am able to run DIM 64 Mac, Studio 4.15.0.2  Mac with the replacement of the application file and have access to smart content. All on an old Macbook.

And render scenes from this addon car-chase-aniblocks-for-animation-four-wheeler-template and even i13-laundromat-environment-with-poses with a couple of characters.

*Facepalm to self* I never looked at what types of bottles you could use in Crossover 20 to install applications in. I now chose a Win10-64bit bottle and I can install 64 bit DIM and Studio.
CMS still does not work – which has been established here before – but next to Multipass OpenGL and 3Delight I found that Iray works too; which is a huge relief to me!
If only filament would've worked... I'd loved to try that out.

  • I'm trying to fix it for weeks. If you go in your folder c:\users/Crossover/Application Data/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/UserAccounts and look into Account.ini, there is a line with "RememberPassword=false", which I do change in  "RememberPassword=true", but when DIM starts, the flag is "False" again. If you lock the file DIM is not starting. I'm almost giving up.
