Interesting, I am reading some folks are using Realty with win 8? When I had my workstation built 18 months ago I had win 8 installed on it and had nothing but problems using Reality. It would take many tries to get it to open. My saved shaders would not transfer properly between my workstation and i7 notebook. Had to put 7 back on the workstation.
Even Microsoft is moving away from Windows 8. Seems it is Vista 2.0 or ME 3.0, depending on your point of view.

Windows 10 is in early beta. They are skipping "9" for what ever reason and going straight to "10".

One of the guys at work who beta tests for M$ told me about them going to 10. I am fine having 7 on both since it's part of my workflow. I know 8 is considered a failure. Funny how one is forced to have it when purchasing a newer machine.

Who knows why MS does what they do but I like Windows. Some versions SUCK and some are outstanding. So looking forward to 10. 8.1 over 8 is much better I can say for sure!

I'm guessing this means Reality runs properly on 8.1?

...hmm so I guess they're using "new math" and counting in Base 9 now

    ...7...8...10...

The marketing spin is that it's a substantial upgrade of the kernel from Windows 8/8.1. They also wanted to signify that the next release will be the last major Windows update, so they branded it Windows 10. Going forward, all future updates will be incremental.

PR-wise, popular opinion among tech journalists is that they're trying to distance themselves from the colossal failure of Windows 8/8.1.

    http://blog.gadgethelpline.com/windows-9-windows-10/

Two years after its release, Windows 8 it still has only 5.93% market share as of July 2014, while 8.1 only has 6.1%.

A buddy of mine installed the Windows 10 Technical Preview on his laptop. So far, we're both completely underwhelmed, and not at all looking forward to where MS seems to be headed with Windows. Meanwhile, I'm debating whether to consider dropping $3k on a switch to Mac (wishful thinking, really - I don't have $3k), give Linux a whirl, or just be thankful the Star Menu is back and embrace the inevitable.

They've moved on to tablets and phones. Reality helped me go Windows free several years ago. I like that I can get used machines from work, put Linux in character mode of them, and do network rendering with Lux. With enough cheap hardware, renders don't take too long to get results.

Not sure as I mentioned it did not work well when I tried it on 8 but that was 18 months ago. Upon discussing it on the Rendo forums back then, I was advised to go back to 7.

Well, I decided to wait for version 3 and I'll be hoping it's fixed by then, if not for now. Rolling back to a previous edition of Windows isn't an option for me!

You mean Reality 3? Paolo told me that it would be compatible to 8

Phew! Even more reason to wait!

Maybe Daz will have upgraded 3Delight to be almost on par, by then! :)

I have been using Reality 2.5 with Windows 8.1 and it works well for me, there may be the odd hiccup but most of the time I have no issue.. Reality 3 for Poser works well in Windows 8.1 so I see there should be no problem with Reality 3 for Studio when it is released..

The funny thing is that I have been able to get blindingly fast renders when using the GPU mode in Reality 3 for Poser and Luxrender 1.3..

The main reason I went to Windows 8.1 was that my version of Windows 7 limited me to 16gig ram and had some other issues..

...you could have always done the "fast track" upgrade to the pro version through MS.

As to linux, not into playing IT tech and messing with an OS, having to constantly update and teak it manually. Furthermore I have other applications that ill not run on it.

Renderman was supposed to release it's professional engine (for non commercial use) for free this past summer, I registered for it however have yet to hear from them yet concerning the download going live.

Back to the topic of Reality. I as wondering if there will there be an upgrade track for those who currently have 2.5?

Pret-A-3D has, indeed, said there should be a discount for upgrading when it becomes available.

I remember the notice on the Poser version page at RDNA so I would assume that DS users will get a similar discount from 2.X to 3. Looking forward to all the new updates!

Perhaps that was the diff between 8 and 8.1 cause for me it was really bad had to start it 4 to 5 times before it would take. Sides playing on my tower and notebook both with 7 prolly makes it easier

Yes, thank you for the announcement. Please note that there is absolutely no support for Lux 1.4 with Reality 2.5 or 3.1.

You can install Lux 1.4 in parallel with the stable release, either 1.2 or 1.3, and switch to it whenever you want inside Reality.

Do not send me reports about possible incompatibilities of Reality with Lux 1.4 because I will not address them.
Lux 1.4 is a complete rewrite of the program and as such has many, many bugs.

Support for Lux 1.4 or 2.0 will be added to Reality once Lux becomes stable.

    Cheers.

I was wondering if there may be compatibility issues will keep both. The quick test render I ran seemed to work. Curious to see if it will be any faster.

Just got Reality for poser (using in Poser 2012 pro, 64bit)
    Was working fine
I was testing various settings, then, crunch!
Hit RENDER FRAME button and nothing happens except error window in Poser
maybe to do with using Texture Collection when testing things? (read such suggestion when searching as possible error issue)

now, I cannot get it to run at all with scene I was using, but will work if I make an entirely new scene :/

    Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/Applications/Poser Pro 2014/Runtime/Python/addons/Reality/__init__.py", line 813, in checkTimeEvent
File "/Applications/Poser Pro 2014/Runtime/Python/addons/Reality/__init__.py", line 849, in renderScene
File "/Applications/Poser Pro 2014/Runtime/Python/addons/Reality/__init__.py", line 581, in updateLights
poser.error: Named actor could not be found

    Any help please? :)
