So all of these issues sound like the issue is Firefox is set to delete cookies after each session with the exception of seeing the popup while logged in. I am continuing to look into the issue.

    Use an ad-blocker.

Thank you for the suggestion. uBlock Origin does not block it and I am not interested in investing the time necessary to try all the various add-ons and permutations to just deal with one website coding error on one of my favorite sites.

My main complaint is that the website should recognize that I am logged in and stop having the ad pop-up.  In addition, I can't even click the "x" on the ad to get rid of it. I have to reload the page.

I did receive a reply from DAZ to my support ticket about 2 hours after I submitted it. They said they would look into it. I also gave them the link to this forum so they could see I am not the only complainant.

Unfortunately, it seems by the replies in this thread, only a couple of people are having this problem therefore this will have a very low priority for DAZ. Only the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Please reply in this thread if you are having this problem.

I also use uBlock Origin and I don't see this unless I'm not logged in. I am however using Chrome. Perhaps this has something to do with Firefox? Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the feedback. Based on that information you have provided, I checked my privacy settings and they are set to standard with everything set to clear when I exit Firefox. I am not interest in switching to Edge, Chrome, Waterfox, Palemoon, or Vivaldi to visit DAZ. So I am at a loss to think of what user side solutions exist.

Firefox is not an unknown or rarely used browser. DAZ should be checking web display on Edge, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome before any rollout on the their website. As far as I can tell these represent at least 90% of the web browsers visiting DAZ's site. This current problem irk's me because of all the DAZ website issues I experienced with their most recent website transition. Those problems went on for an inordinately long time.

Actually, they're still ongoing. We no longer have a useful search function . Really? On an e-store?

This is really annoying, the pop-up keeps coming back although I'm already logged in. DAZ techs, please do fix the code!

    Hi Daz cpage,

Thank you for replying in this thread. I hope this helps.

For the tablet I am using right now:  Firefox 86.0.1 on Win 10 64-bit (Surface Pro 4) using Win 10 "Windows Security" apps. Running through NordVPN.

Security & Privacy add-ons: AdBlocker Ultimate, ClearURLs, Cookie AutoDelete, and Disable WebRTC.

Browser settings:  Enhanced Tracking Protection set to standard, Do Not Track set to Always, Cookies and Site Data set to clear when I close Firefox, History set to clear on exit, Block pop-up windows is enabled.

I can not click on the blue "x" on the pop-up to dismiss it, but re-loading the page removes the pop-up.

That is going to be why it keeps coming back. I am working on an update for the popup but it currently uses a cookie to know you have dismissed it.

This round of changes should also fix the issue where people are seeing it after logging in.

As for the X not working I will work with it and see what I can do. it is tricky cause I have not been able to replicate the issue yet on Windows, OSX, or Linux Mint. I will be diving deeper.  I will keep you folks posted on when we get the update pushed.

Looks like third time was the charm. I was coming to complain about this damned thing showing up on every single page, but closing it yet again seems to have stuck this time. This sort of thing is a major nuisance, and if I wasn't already a customer, this would be a very effective way to convince me to continue not being a customer.

I think most people these days are adept at mentally blocking out anoying pop-ups and ads on websites... like the double-ads now on Youtube these days you turn off the sound and change tabs until they're finished. As coroprations get more cunning in throwing up their ads, net users get much better at blocking them out, on principle. As if Youtube and DAZ are't making enough money already, don't expect me to play their game of looking at their ads and pop-ups. Just ignore them like they're not there.

..never once had it appear even after clearing browser data  with  tracking protection on.  Then, I am on Chrome, and have very good popup blocking.

  • hjakehjake Posts: 943

Well I had time to revisit this issue. I "refreshed" Firefox which uninstalled all add-ons. I re-installed all add-ons and reset the privacy settings.

Pop-up appears and I can click the blue "x" on it to make the pop-up go away for the session which I can live with.

Daz should find away to dismiss the pop-up if the user click the "Sigin" or "Login" buttons on a webpage.

This popup is just annoying, period. I browse on my phone when I'm not at home for a few minutes at a time, many times a day. The "Keep Me Logged In" feature has never worked for me on the mobile site, so I'm literally dealing with this popup many times a day. I don't want to try and hit the tiny x on my phone over and over, or have to manually type in my login info every time I want to kill a few minutes browsing your site.

Not that it would entirely fix my own irritation with this brilliant new gimmick (that I'll probably be dealing with for the rest of the time I'm a Daz user, apparently), but wouldn't it make more sense to code this harassment to occur after someone who's not signed in has at least browsed a few pages or clicked on a few links, or something?

The current setup means that it's quite possible based on browser settings or whatever else, that you're planning on subjecting some amount of even long time Daz customers with having to see this popup every time they visit your site, before they've even had a chance to log in, correct?

I had this problem with Firefox on a couple of Windows computers (Windows 7 and 10).

Not a biggie, just annoying; I lost power during a big DAZ download on one Windows 10 machine and I've been too scared to load any new content since that happened!

I'm tired to see that very stupid warrior advertising. Even when I connect I always have that mess. Daz, you are messing a lot with that! I ALREADY receive the newsletter, I won't suscribe each time I come here. angry

If you want block ads forever use uBlockOrigin tools with your own filters! The warrior pop-up will never come back again...

I can give you an advise for Firefox only, as I don't know if this works reliable with other browsers like chrome etc.

Use the Element picker and Element zapper fom uBlockOrigin add-on!
    ========================================================

If there is an element on a web page you wish to remove forever, open the extension's popup menu, and click the small "eye-dropper" icon (please see attachments). You will enter the interactive element picker mode.

Once in element-picker mode, you have to point and click on the element you wish to remove.

Once you click on the element, you will be presented with a modal dialog box which allows you to select, and optionally edit and create a filter for the element(s) you wish to remove from the web page.

the resulting code looks like this under "My Filters" menu:

It seems that once I click the "x" on the pop-up ad it dsappears for the rest of my session. Logging in has no impact.

I did recommend to customer support that they should create 32 pop-up ad images and change the image everyday. Variety is the spice of life.

Today it's gone in the forums ... but in the shop it shows up again and again, even after clicking the x fot the umpteenth time. Aaaaaaargh!

The way things are going, we would end up having to click 32 times to make the pop-up go away.

  • Could I ask a simple question..

    Why have it at all?

It is just another in a long line of annoyances getting between the user and what they want to look at. Does it help anyone? Does it do anything useful? Does it bring joy and satisfaction to anyone? If the answer to any of those is 'No', then that's justification not to waste bandwidth on it, and I suspect the answer is no to all three questions.

    Regards,

    Richard.

I don't have any technical problems with this pop-up, but: I hate any kind of ad pop-ups. They interrupt your workflow and force you to deal with something that, at least at the time, doesn't interest you at all. Even looking for the button to click away from the thing is a forced occupation. That's why pop-ups and the like have exactly the opposite effect on me of whatever they're trying to achieve.

Here's the thing; People hired to do web marketing stuff, SEO, etc won't get paid unless they're doing stuff.  Once the easy useful stuff is done, and the hard useful stuff turns out to be too hard, they still need to keep busy.  So we get pop-ups.  The other thing is that every website on the internet, whatever it is, acts like it's the only website on the internet.   They all want to send out push notifications and emails to let us know what's new, so that we go back and click on stuff.  On the one hand, you can't blame them, cause they're just trying to put bread on the table, and everyone told them internet marketing was the future, but on the other hand it's annoying.

  • Another problem with pop-ups is that viruses and malware will often masquerade as innocuous pop-ups. The moment you click on them to get rid of them, the Kraken is released.

That's why (on Windows) I only close popup windows by clicking on their respective task bar icons at the bottom of the screen. If there is no option to close the popup window on the task bar, I assume the worst and get the heck out off that web page as quickly as possible.

Anyways... as for the DAZ popup: on my Android phone, the popup fills almost the entire screen -- it's so large, in fact, that I cannot see the X icon and therefore cannot close the popup. Therefore, I can no longer browse DAZ on my Android phone.

Sometimes I browse not logged in, so it is quite annoying to see this bloody axe lady every single time I am not logged in. I don't think this pic is a good look, personally, it cuts a bit too close to the old "scantily clad Vicky with a sword" meme that Daz has a reputation for. It is like you are purposely fostering this reputation! If I were you I would not want to steer anywhere near that old meme.

Of course if I were you I wouldn't be doing that push notification in the first place. People browsing the Daz website do not need any pop ups begging them to join the website. Honestly that sort of thing pushes me away more than anything. If I see these popups like that on other sites I haven't joined I might not join, I might just leave and not come back. I guess you guys will have the numbers to show whether you get more sign ups or not, but I don't think the nagging approach is all that great.

Well it seems the problem of the never ending pop-up has come back. Even when I click "x" on one pop-up the pop-up appears when I open other tabs from links on that page.

I have just instructed AdBlocker Ultimate to block the ad so hopefully that will put an end to the problem for this computer.

    ***UPDATE***

This solution seems to eliminate the problem.

I don't delete cookies and don't get the pop up.  Surely it is possible to be selective about which cookies get deleted.

I suppose it is possible to be selective about which cookies get deleted, Richard, but why should I or anyone else have to take special steps to avoid being harrassed by a pop-up only on the DAZ web site?  Especially when that pop-up is unnecessary:  As I said in my prior post that was deleted by the forum Mods, the DAZ site already has facilites for users to register their email addresses, and to be offered various services - why is is this new facility necessary at all?
