Fatal Error on first attempt to open Daz Studio

I'm not completely new to Daz, but had been using an ancient version.  I was happy with that, but my old computer died and the old version won't run on Windows 10, so I bit the bullet and Downloaded Daz Central and tried to dowload the latest Daz Studio...  it kept freezing while downloading, but I could restart the download... but when it finally hit 100% it encountered a fatal error on launch.  I tried restarting my computer, but it still won't open.  I uninstalled and tried installing again - - same problem.
I did get the zip with the crashdump and errorlog, but I don't understand what any of it means.and it seems too massive to copy/paste  the whole thing here, but this snippet seems possibly relavant. I'm running Windows 10 64 bit and I'm still new to it - - my old computer was Windows 7. Any help is appreciated.

That is part of the drivers for an ATI (now AMD) video chip. Is that what the system has? Have you tried  checking for updates?

  • edited July 2021

I've checked all drivers, this being a new computer - - everything is up to date.  I double checked the AMD  -- it says the best driver is already installed.

I wonder if the long and interrupted download is an issue?  Is there any way to download Daz Studio, other than Daz Central?  I downloaded the earlier version way back when directly, dowloading the .exe  - - can you still do that?

Install manager iss till available, it has a link at the foot of most pages in yoru Product Library, and daz Studio also has direct downloads in the Product Library (though it is recommended not to mix installation methods).

Thanks - - I'm giving Install Manager a try.  I uninstalled Daz Central.  My internet isn't too awful, for a rural area, but slow compared to most connections - - I think that might have  been an issue, too.- - parts of things downloading and failing along the way, so when it said 100% it wasn't really. I've unchecked everything but Daz Studio 4.15 and if I can download that entirely, I'll one by one add things from the list.  I tried downloadign the whole list, but several things got a "download failed" - - too many things at once, is my best guess.

  • Update - - no joy.

I have no idea what the problem is.  My drivers are up to date, unless there's a driver I don't know to look for...  I downloaded the whole mess, piece by piece, slowly, taking all day and I STILL get the fatal error message.  I'm trying again, but I'm at wits end.
I tried to send a report to suport, but when I clicked submit, it just took me to the top of the page, like it refreshed the page  -- not sure my message even got sent.

Years ago, I had a phone number for Daz support, but they must have shut that down soon after  -- it reaches some health insurance hard-sell sales pitch, now.

  • Again - - didn't work.  I can't get the program installed. Any help would be appreciated.  This is incredibly frustrating.

I tried to send Support a message or I guess it's called a "ticket"? I have no idea if it got through  -- when I clicked to send or submit (I forget how it was phrased), it just took me back to the top of the page, sort of like some forms do, if you forget something...  but there was no message saying I'd left off some mandatory information...  It would be nice if you got a "ticket submitted" type screen after sending...

You should be getting this when the ticket is submitted.

Just in case you were in the wrong spot, which I doubt here is where you should be. Submit Ticket

I believe this means it is looking for a driver that either isn't working and needs updated or it isn't there. I could be wrong though but thats what it looks like.

    Thanks for the response.

I'm not sure if it said "your request was successfully submitted"...  if it did, I missed noticing.  I did use that form.  That was over a week ago and I haven't heard back, but I saw in another post, that response time has slowed down, due to the pandemic, which is understandable.
Any idea how to fix that driver issue?  I've checked and all drivers say they are updated... I'm hesitant to delete drivers, though I guess Windows replaces them if you do that then restart? I'm good with the visual side of things, not the technologuical side...  I like the tech side of things to just work, but...  yeah...  Anyway, my approach to messing with the computer is like doctors are supposed to do  according to Hippocratic Oath "first, do no harm"... and I don't know what might harm the computer if I go poking around and deleting things.

You say your computer is new, is it with Intel or AMD processor?

Where did your GPU driver come from? Windows Update or the manufacturer website?

What type of processor does your new machine have?

It's refurbished so new to me, but not exactly "NEW", new.  It has an Intell i5 processor - - it says 4 cores.  I think it also has a dedicated graphics card, which I think is AMD, but that's not showing up in the System Information app.

I tried updating with Device Manager.  It says the best drivers are installed.

That is something you should not believe, that is MicroSoft talking, you should go to the GPU manufacturers site and download the latest drivers for your GPU

Given this problem, should I go to AMD (graphics card), or Intell(processor)? I suppose I need to write down the model numbers for both?  Should I download something like Intell Driver & Support Assistant? I see AMD has an auto-detect and install app too... Do you use those kind of apps to stay up to date? Are they basically like manufaturer specific device manager apps?

You must find out the name of your graphic adapter (GPU) and then download and install the drivers for it from AMD site.

I spoke with Daz customer supprot and they are going to look and see if they have any tickets from you. You may be contacted by them.

Thanks for the information.  On Windows 10 systems, do you know where that information located?  I'm still getting used to 10 and it's pretty different from Windows 7.

Thank you - - I appreciate you looking into this.

  • I found the GPU though task manager  -- it appears I have 2?  GPU0 - - Intel 4600, and GPU1 - - AMD Radeon R7 250

  • Interesting. My DAZ Central download did the same thing with the DAZ Studio installation. While Studio starts up OK, I get the 'fatal error' message after a few minutes. Maybe DAD Central needs to be fixed to instell properly.

Or maybe some sort of manual install option is in order?

I'd be interested to see if a solution is forthcoming.

With mine, it wouldn't even open, before I get the fatal error.  I tried installing a really old version of Daz that I have saved on a disk and it gets the same error.  I tried downloading the newer Daz iusing Daz Install Manager (maybe that would work for you, though?) instead of Daz Central and... no change.

  • I went to Intel's website, downloaded their driver package for Windows 10 64 bit... and got this...  (I don't seem to be able to upload images, so can't post the screenshot I took - - it's an error pop-up that clicking more information takes me to Intel's website - - posting a link below)  I guess that means I need to go to Dell for drivers?  It's a refurbished computer, so some parts might not be the original parts.  I don't know if that makes a difference.

I just spoke with Daz again through email and they advised me that they did have a ticket from you and now they can look into it.

I went to AMD and there are a few things there  -- one is a driver auto detect tool.  I'll try that. EDIT  -- didn't work  -- some error.  I have work, so I'll try to sort it out later...
The "Oops something went wrong" screen when installing the AMD auto-detect suggested it may be a firewall issue...not sure how to fix that.

  • There's alreasdy an AMD setting thing on my computer, but it has controls for gaming or display.... everything else is just inforamation  -- maybe some of that info is relavent to the problem, but I don't know what to look for.  It has no driver update controls.

  • Not sure if this info helps  - This is what my AMD Settings App says is my  Driver Packaging Version
