Is there a current list of what will definetly be in v5 and another list of the maybes?

We all want a specific feature  (ie: Iray Server + animations)

but to know what definetly is planned for this release seperate from the maybes would be usful;)

Don't hold your breath  many forum users over the years have been asking for a basic road map but none has ever materialised

  • I would rather instead of new shiny things being introduced I would like Daz to resolve seams in renders being visible bug.  Having to wait an hour for dforce item to simulate only to crash and burn bug or is it because there is no basic info on how to use it.

Yes I know I can look on the web and youtube  but the fact that there is no basic documentation you faf for day or more scratching your head to figure out what's wrong

So that's what I would like in Daz 5 to make what we already have more stable to be able to use dforce without waiting ages to simulate and then it explodes.  Render without seams etc sorted, not more shiny things added yet left with struggling with buggy parts of Daz

I am hoping the new upgraded guts of Daz will automatically sort out lots of problems as imo dForce etc are struggling on the old platform but having hardly any info on a road map and how people have had tickets open for ages on problems I am not at this moment very hopeful it is only Richard Haseltine who is a very active moderator and is helpful but still hampered in his attempts to appease people like me on a bit of a rant without knowing himself what direction Daz is going

Bring on a stable Daz 5 with the problems we have all faced using the program ironed out and rectified  before introducing more features

  • I think visible seams are a content issue, as opposed to a DS issue. Also, I believe the new UVs of G8.1 try to address this issue by adjusting the pixel density of the material zones.

Yep Greg on hdri lighting  4k 8k resolution is fine and dandy but using other lights in spectral render even with 8.1 characters still shows ugly seams that can be and I do rectify in post but still, another faf

Why use spectral render then you might ask? I am fed up of dealing with the Rudolf red nose glow from the uber Iray even with 8.1 from sss settings and certain light setups i want to use and depending on the PA there are minor to major where a PA will still use( mono settings ugh) adjustments to my basic shader i have cobbled together over many attempts.

maybe there is a simple answer to the bridge of the nose shinning like a drunken matlow on a Friday night on union street but i am struggling to find one

That depends on if you increase the Sub-D or not. If you did it is going to shrink the geometry ever so little on the texture map and misaligned the seamless edge the PA created to hide that seam. If you didn't increase it then that would be on the PA in most cases. It has happened to me more times than I'd like to admit, usually case I was testing it with Sub-D increased and forgot to take it back down.

Thank you I did not know that altering the subD would make the difference between seams being visible or not

No, and I doubt there will be one before the actual release.

Not something I realized either - but then I tend to turn them down not up. Will have to add this to my tutorial topics, yes. Thanks :-)

It's not a guarantee that it will happen but it does sometimes so just be aware of it. A lot of PA's are cloning out more pixels than we use to to make up for that.

How about AMD usable renderer for Daz Studio 5?

    1) Cycles https://www.cycles-renderer.org

    2) Radeon ProRender https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/radeon-prorender

Both are free and open source.

I suppose the biggest obstacle is the materials / shaders system in DS. These are very much optimized for IRay, which is exclusively Nvidea. Even the DAZ bridge cannot convert all materials reliably to Blender (e.g cycles). The materilas system within Blender is way more powerful than the current DS one.

Perhaps, DS can be implemented as a plugin to Blender?

While that would be really nice, I can't see PA's supplying material presets for all or even any of those over Iray. You'd have to learn to do it yourself. But I'm all for having bridges to other render engines. :) I used to use Snarlygribbly's bridge to Luxrender all the time when I was still using Poser, but I had to learn to do my own shaders ;)

You want and I want and Daz does whatever he wants .

Don't get excited too much .

...if a new version of Daz either introduces some features I've been waiting for and/or fixes some long running annoying bugs (without introducing new ones) I'd update.

The first part was just informing any who was not aware (not everyone reads the release notes) . The second part of my response was to Kjartan who has done the same, to let him/her know he/she is not the only one doing so.

My reluctance to move to 4.15 is primarily due to the number of comments I've seen regarding bugs, some that seem fairly serious. Don't need the extra frustration.

This is why I'm waiting too. It seems like the upgrade could only cause things to stop working, and nothing new has been added yet.

My understanding is that the initial emphasis will be on getting DS5 up and running and working reasonably reliably.  Once this is done, we will then get all the new stuff that DAZ has planned.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

  • My main questions regardless of whether it's new or not, is are some of the previous encumberances still going to be present? I'm curious as to how the database functions (and praying it's nothing like the current database functionality).

I'm going to lose plugins of which I have many, but I'm sure some will update theirs and others will leave me in the dust.

Final question is, will verion 5 be free or will there be a cost?

I'm saving for an alternate 3d program, and I might avoid that if there are significant updates. I have a fairly huge financial investment in daz but have not used it in months because of continual crashing, and random moments of extreme slugishness and the abysmal database.

I really enjoy Daz and have produced many presentations with the animation, dforce and now geoshell functionality, but frankly the number of operational issues I'm having has me saving for another program. My fingers are crossed for a successful upcoming release!

The only one of those that has been answered is that the application is not planned to cease being free.

  • I'm glad DS5 will not have a W11 requirement because I'm not updating till the bugs are worked out. Thanks for the heads up Daz Rawb.

  • Hmmmm.....

We are now into October.  4th Quarter 2021.

I think its about time Daz started releasing/leaking solid info on what direction Daz15 is going in... no?

  • At least showing screenshot .

  • Well I think a lot of us here know that Daz time is a lot different to our time so although I am desperate like others to find out a possible road map for the next Daz incarnation I don't think we will know anything until the fanfare of a release

So Like others although have a lot of Daz and rendo assets that work seamlessly in studio I am looking at other alternative programs  to see if i  shoehorn my Daz  library of characters and assets can be used

Blender but I don't like muchfrown but have been looking at marmoset  toolbag which for me is likely the alternative that would suit me

With the pressure to support BigSur having been lifted and reading what DAZ has been telling, I would expect some sort of beta version to surface in January/February and non-Beta maybe next summer.

So glad to hear DS5 won't require Windows 11. My system with a 1080TI isn't compatible, even though it's only a few years old.

Depends on the CPU, I have a 1070ti in mine but the CPU is a 8700k which does have TPM 2.0 in it.. Eitherway I am holding off upgrading for a bit to make sure the usual release bugs are squashed..

Microsoft has stated that Windows 10 will end support in October 2025.  Remember, the reason for Windows 11 is a rather severe hardware problem that leaves systems open to bad things, so they want you to get approved hardware as soon as possible.  This does give everyone a working date for the upgrade.

Also another reason for Win 11 is to do with the new Intel Alderlake big:LITTLE cpu's coming later this year..

Daz ddi say that - now that they had 4.15.x.x usable  on Big Sur - they would not be bringing DS 5 out early.

But that's LGA 1700, ie. meant for 'Consumer-grade systems" with integrated graphics, not much to get exited about.

Has there been any word on if occlusion will be added into 5? If not...stop now...add it.

...that would increase render times as well as put a heavier demand on system memory, and VRAM.

Almost november, but no Daz 5 yet

Do you also bring us Genesis 9 when Daz 5 arrives

...I've barely even bothered with G8, and have litel to no interest in 8.1 so G9 better be a vast improvent
