Stonemason has released 6 complete sets in the last 6 months, which may be a record for him---especially recently. Also, Polish, Aeon Soul, Raiya, and OOT have been releasing new product steadily. I wish Luthbel would give us a new Urban Survivors---sans skinny jeans.

For some time now, Stonemason has been releasing A LOT of stuff that leverages previous releases/creations. He seems to have gotten into a rut,or run out of new ideas, which is too bad 'cause his talent is not being put 100% to use with releasing variations on previous products ... but he's not the only one to do so. Maybe being lean and hungry is a good thingin terms of artistic evolutionary progress.

Personally, I could not be happier with Stonemason's latest release. I like his older SciFi quarters set, but I have wanted an updated version for ages (and I like the bigger size of the new one too). So I'm over the moon. As for the other stuff he's done recently, I like how they fit with his other products, so you can extend those worlds. I don't feel like he's lost his touch. He just has a certain aesthetic that he likes to stick to, and that's fine by me.

Faveral did move and seems to be doing well, but he hasn't said when he'll return to 3D. I assume he will at some point because he did say he wanted to, but I guess considering where he lives now, he just wants to enjoy life.   :)

What, you mean making digital products is not enjoying life????????

My suspicion.... darn, I am such a suspicious Earthling..... is that they are really making new content for when DS 5 is introduced, perhaps a Genesis 9.

I say that because there have been a lot of sales of G8 figures/bundles/pro etc. It is almost as if DAZ wants as much G8 characters to move now as many will go for G9 when it is brought in and ignore G8.

  • I just noticed Maclean hasn't released anything recently.

There are tons of ads for big gaming and movie studios looking for modelers, texturers, riggers, etc... so it’s possible vendors have moved on to bigger better deals, I’m actually surprised more of the top PAs here aren’t already working for Disney/Pixar or EA!

Considering the pre-beta of DS5 is not even available yet and the actual release is planned for the end of the year only, there's basically zero chance they're making content specifically for DS5 right now IMO.

People have been saying that every time there's a sale on G8 bundles, which actually happens quite often, but there's still no G9.

The history of art and music mostly confirms that. Fat and satisfied mostly leads to more of the same.

Wow, looking at this thread I'm surprised any PAs still sell here. I guess it mostly takes not reading the forums to stick with it.

Agree with @certaintree38, and don't agree with the rut.  He has an aesthetic that's recognizable, and good - too many artists will release a small scene, but not a matching environment.  For example, a small sci-fi room but no subsequent surrounding areas to flesh out a full set.  Stonemason is one of the few that has enough sets to flesh out a full environment.

Remember a lot of the old artists switched to new names in the past 3 years, so that might cause a few of them "I don't recognize anyone anymore" feels.

Pretty sure the recently released Genesis 8.1 system is "Genesis 9" in all but name. :D  I don't anticipate a system CALLED Genesis 9 coming anytime soon.

I average two products a month (I do have a second one coming up for July).  I've released 12 products so far this year in 2021, so admittedly I'm one behind, but I hope to have three things out in August to make up for it:

    SY Super Suits 2 G8

RSSY 3Delight and Iray to Filament

    SY Fantabulous Fog Iray

SY Body Under Clothes Fit Fixer G8/G8.1

    SY Fire Within G8/8.1

    SY Cracked Creepy Dolls G8/8.1

    SY Lamia G8/8.1

    Fast Flames Iray II

    SY Shadow G8/8/1

    SY Leafy Crowns G8/8/1

    SF Ball Jointed Dolls G8/8.1

    SY Flower Crowns G8/8.1

I dunno what you were hoping to see, but I don't think I can go much faster than this and still sleep. ;)

...indeed life circumstances can have a big effect.

Though not a PA, still trying to re-ignite my muse after a drive crash took years of work and character development with it a couple years ago.  With the lockdown last year (an my state was very serious about it) I normally would jumped at the occasion to work all day into late evening as there were few distractions to deal with, but there were many days I'd just look at the computer and go "meh". then watch YouTube vids or something.

Used to be I couldn't wait to sit down to start working and rendering, sometimes until it began to get light again..

Coming up on a year since their last release here. Hopefully the absence is due to other opportunities and pursuits rather than the troubles of the times.

Hey Sickle, I think you have a great release schedule, the number of rigged waters and fog products in my content library attests to that as well as the super suits and other stuff (very nice super suits by the way), I was wondering however since you took the plunge with the Lamia if you might ever consider making a Yuan-Ti add on or add ons for that. I don't know if you have ever played D&D or not but the Yuan-Ti are a serpentine race in the game and there are several different types, some of them you can do with the Lamia just as they are, others need a serpentine head and body, cobra-like hood large fangs (not talking vampire-like here, I'm talking more like the images that I am going to attach these will give you an idea of what Yuan-Ti are like if you don't already know. I don't own the rights to any of these images and all copyrights belong to their respective owners, I post them only as concept art. As you can see from the images there are several different variations.

There was a kind of protest against NFT a few months back and quite a few people deleted their galleries and kicked up a stink, But I doubt those who make a living out of being a PA  could afford to stop producing in a similar protest.

I suppose there's a product saturation point where PAs get bereft of inspiration. There's just so many bedrooms and bathrooms, cute characters and skimpware before one runs out of ideas how to recycle what has been done a thousand time before.

I think (!) a major part for this "recycling trend" is the fact, that some items just sell, even when there's lots of others that are nearly identical already exist in the shop(s). Can't even guess the reason, but it's the only reason why there's quite a few PAs that release - for example - female figures that look 95% identical apart from minor changes in looks and makeup and still get hailed for putting out so many quality figures... There's at least three PAs that I only bought one or two female figures from, as all the others wouldn't add anything to my "genepool".

Same for bathrooms... or swimming pools... etc. etc.

As long as it sells, make it... (and if you get away with it, recycle parts of it...)

Gee I have an idea how about some ladies' fantasy outfits without heels? I bet they would sell. Love the new Jinx Jones Character and the new Black Seas outfit is awesome all the way down to the heels. I believe I even saw one promo where she was standing on a sandy beach in this outfit in some of the spikiest heels I have ever seen. Physics man, physics, where are the renders of these ladies pulling their heels up out of the mud and sand and being defeated by their enemies because a heel is stuck in the ground or something like that? I know this is an age-old discussion around here but heels are great in some places but in others, they are like a fish out of water.

Remember that this is Stomemason's JOB as well as an artistic outlet. If he's identified particular themes which sell well, and that he can expand upon with less effort than going somewhere entirely new, I don't blame him for revisiting those areas. He probably does something completely different - music, watercolour, who knows? - to satisfy his own artistic needs.

They are the "Artistic Squad" over at ArtStation now.  I'm friends with them over on Facebook and I guess, for now, they have hung up their hats on making new content for the DAZ Store.  Instead they are now focusing on making and selling stuff  for ZBrush and Blender!
