I was just about to post that our power was out when it sprang back to life. Yay! My actual phone signal sucks in my house, so doing anything on the internet was miserable.

I think I need to get up out of bed to find my phone but I feel sick.

not really a complaint  but I saw some cute panties for Genesis 8 on Renderosity.  The panties only have materials for Iray.

    edit: get well soon Sfariah.

  • Non-complaint:  Wheee... mini-adventure coming up this afternoon.  A trip uptown, for an echocardiogram, and side trips to the bank, then the UPS store to return a bogus item to Amazon,  then a visit to the drugstore for a flu shot and a Covid booster if possible and finally a dropoff at the laundromat.  Wheee... all sorts of fun.smiley

Complaint: May have to take an Uber home.  $$ sad

Loki and Summers assumed I shelled some peas and put those pieces in the aquarium for them to eat.  They seem to be thankful but won't say anything.

Non-complaint:  Made it to the cardiologist's office where they banged on my chest and unlike the Tin Man, it didn't rattle.  So, I guess my heart is still in there.  Then I dropped off my Amazon return package at the UPS Store.  Also got my laundry done, and picked up 2 full length Subway subs (Mmmm) for food for the next few days.  Also picked up prescriptions and miscellaneous stuff and made it to the bank before they closed.  Wheee...smiley

Complaint:  The line for either the regular flu or Covid booster shots was too long, so I didn't get either.frown  I did have to take an Uber home.indecision

Despite having lost 40 pounds in the last 10 months, I still get way too tired on a simple day's mini-adventure.no    Although, my pants are now way too big for me.  Yay!yes

My ruts are pretty well worn...

By the way, I don't know if you have any CVSs in Jamestown, but the ones around here take appointments for the Covid booster shots... it might be worth giving a call... I think Walgreens does that too... I think both do that for the flu shots as well.

I got my first and second Pfizer shots at Stony Brook university, but the booster I got this morning at CVS... it was pretty quick too.

On a side note despite all the promises, apparently no refrigerator magnets are sticking to me yet, which is rather disappointing since my Electron-Man powers wore off years ago... also my ability to command Microsoft products or summon Bill Gates seems to be rather lacking too...

I guess I should just enjoy the antibodies and be happy.

If you stand really still and listen hard, you can hear them partying.

....there's a nearby clinic offering the boosters.  Somehow I find it odd going to a store like Kroger, Rite Aid, or CVS rather than a location that has other medical personnel around, just in case there is a reaction.

Hmm. bread, cereal, bananas, milk, TP.... Oh yeah, Covid booster.

Could we have a paramedic with a gurney to the canned foods aisle?.

Yeah, CVS is where I went.  And although I had tried to use their website to schedule an appointment, something boogered and I gave up.  So I just thought I'd do a "walk-in" and see what transpired.  Not much apparently. sad

someone on the forum mentioned using NVIDIA® Quadro RTX™ video cards for Daz Studio and Iray.  I should buy a Quadro RTX video card after I get a job.  Maybe ps1borg gave me some info?  I forgot.

Complaint:  I've become too organized.surprise  I know that I have a 2-port HDMI switch around here somewhere.  I'm sure it's in a box of similar things (hopefully) but there are so many boxes that have incomplete, or wrong labels on them (box facing the wrong way).  I used to know where everything was, because it had been in the same spot for 10 years until I organized it.frown

Non-complaint:  While searching boxes I came across a couple of things that I was sure I'd lost.yes  (Oh, THAT's where it went.  -- I wonder why I put it in that box. --

...I've actually thought about a 16 GB RTX A4000 given the ridiculous markups on the consumer series cards that has been showing no signs of abating.

The one rub, need to upgrade to W11 to use one. as no drivers for the A series cards are available for W7 which means a CPU, MB and Memory upgrade as well.

I can't upgrade to W11.  Are there drivers available for Windows 10 ?

Yes, the A series predates Windows 11 and Windows 10 is going to be an officially supported version for another four years or so so I doubt that will change for a while.

....aware that drivers are available for W10.

Should have clarified that moving straight to 11 is a personal choice based on details researched and comparisons as well as it appears to be working smoothly for others here who have made the transition (save for those with AMD CPUs, but that likely will be solved).

It's also something that's not immediate, but in the pre-planning stage for when Nvidia announces that Maxwell series cards are no longer supported for Iray.  Hopefully prices for memory and GPUs will come back down to earth by then (but not holding my breath on it).

Rethorical question: How does Mr. Richard Haseltine know so much about the technical details of computers?  I imagine that he is a tech support specialist or consultant at Daz 3D.

I'm not desperate for a graphics card anymore.  I have an RTX-3060 in papa-bear, and a GTX-1660 in momma-bear So, I'm pretty much satisfied for now.  Although, someday, in the future, when prices come back to Earth, during a blue moon, I'd like to get a decent graphics card for my baby-bear machine.  It's currently using an Nvidia GT-1030 Low-profile single slot width board because my CPU is an AMD Ryzen5 1400 (yeah, used, ancient and only 4-core, but it was cheap) that has no on-chip graphics.  The GT-1030 card is better for me (handles 1440 resolution monitors) than the GT-730 that I had in my spare parts boxes.  Yet I keep wistfully watching the graphics card prices.

HOWEVER, baby-bear is turning into a quite nice little machine.  He now has 32GB of 2666 RAM, 2.5TB of internal storage composed of a 500GB NVMe M.2 and a 1TB SATA SSD and a terabyte hard drive.  All the time I've had that Ryzen5 1400 CPU I've assumed that I would replace it someday.  So, for my birthday, I just bit the bullet and picked up one of those 6-core Ryzen5 5600G CPUs that has built-in graphics supposedly better than on the GT-1030 card.  Yeah, yeah, it won't do IRay well, but neither does the 1030 card.  But, then again, I'm not doing DAZ work on baby-bear, but I might want to someday in the future.

I'd been watching those Ryzen5-5600G prices and NewEgg had them on sale at $239 for a couple weeks down from $259, but today they knocked another $10 off, and at $229 I could no longer resist the temptation.  My justification was that in the coming months they might run out of them (Amazon hasn't had them for a week or more), or the prices might go up drastically, or shipping will take 6 months.  I wanted to wait for Black Friday sales, but again, the same possibilities.  So I caved.

I may not unbox the 5600G for a while.  I have 30 days to return it if I find another one for cheaper, but actually, I don't think I will.

In conclusion:  Wheee... new toys! smiley

....I'd already have a 3060 if they weren't two or more times the original price.
