I noticed that my pooping is somehow related to what I eat.  Not sure how or why,

I like depth of field effects.  I don't like noise.  Sadly, I've yet to get supernoise to go away whenever rendering an animation with DoF in Octane.

Should I be glad my fish food is being turned into fish poop?

Well, probably... unless you were hoping for precious metals or gemstones... then I'd be pretty disappointed.

I suppose it depends on what the fish told you they pooped out before you adopted them.

Complaint:  Arghhh... SNOW!frown  I got all dressed warmly for a chilly Fall walk to the store for basic groceries but as I walked out the door and headed down the driveway, snow began falling fast and hard all around me.  I forced myself to reach the end of the driveway to pick up my postal mail, then turned around and came back into the house.  No treking through the snow today.sad  My larder is well stocked (except for bread, milk, and salad greens) so I won't starve.  Now is the time I miss Florida life.indecision

Non-complaint:  My Ryzen5-5600G CPU has arrived.  Wheee...! smiley

Also, I finally got my TV able to display my gaming output with never having to tinker with the graphics card settings to send the output there.  So now, I can relax in my recliner chair and play my Myst type games in comfort.yes

Complaint:  I've had too many mini-adventures in the last few days.  Multiple trips uptown, and lunches in restaurants.  My weight loss progress suffered a setback.  I'd gotten down to 209.0, then within 48 hours I was back up to 212.4.sad  I guess it was too much of a good thing.  Mini-adventures should be engaged in sparingly.enlightened

'Nother Complaint:  Uber prices have gone up!  Yesterday's price was up about 25% from a few weeks ago.frown

Yeah... getting dark already at 5PM and since the start of November, we are required to have winter tires when there is threat of loosing control. We usually get snow around or after Christmas, so it's either drive with the studded tires on dry roads for two months or take the chance of getting a ticket if the officer doesn't agree with you on the severity of the conditions... The next 4-5 months are not my favorite season...

Bug Bites goldfish formula is wonderful!  To be honest, my friends love it but I haven't personally ate it.  For some reason it looks and smells like fish food.  My friends don't mind eating fish food though.

  • Complaint: My battery backup failed and new batteries cost almost $200. I'm not even sure if it just needs batteries or if something else is also wrong. I ordered new batteries and I hope that fixes it because a new unit is about $400.

I feel hungry and nauseous at the same time.  I was told that my problems are too much but I don't know what to do about it.

...interesting, In my old home sate (Wisconsin) that gets a several months of "real winter", studded tyres have been illegal since the early1970s.

However, I find it odd they are allowed here in Portland OR where every few years, we maybe get a day or two with actual snow that sticks and doesn't melt by noon.  For pretty most of the winter (around 98% of the season) the streets are just bare and wet, so those tyres (particularly on all the heavy SUVs which tend to outnumber cars here) damage the pavement on the streets resulting in road repair (often resurfacing) in late spring through summer.

Some 80% of cars up here have studded tires during the winter, even when these southwestern coastal areas don't get that much snow anymore (maybe 1-1.5 feet), the smaller roads are sometimes just impossible to drive due to the slick ice if you're driving with the non-studded ones.

As the temperatures have still been around 6-8C (42-46F), I'm going to wait another two weeks before considering the change.

I had a dream that I used AWS or something like that to run DS while I use it on my iPad.

I think that I am going to get my computer back, but it is taking forever.  When I last asked about my stuff, I was told that they were trying to get my stuff, and some housemates stuff, back to us, but won't tell me when.

So last month it was the plumbing ,then I decided to get someone to clean up my yard over grown boxwood hedges ,all the cut down branches that my family was kind enough to cut down ,but then just piled in a couple of areas and had turned into weed piles looked awful ,my daughter visited for a week ,which was nice .Now there is a cold front headed my way ,and I had the HVAC unit  checked right after the plumbing issue ,it was in working condition ,but cause it was nice out side I opened windows insted of using the HVAC unit .So last night I turn on the heat since it had dropped to 60 inside  ...... and the fan doesn't come on ...... so I go flip the breaker ,wait a few minutes ,flip it back on and try the heat again ,it says heat on blinks a couple times then says auxillary heat on ,but the fan still doesn't come on ......crap Murphy has struck again!! my savings are screaming ,but I have an appointment on thursday ,I hope it's something manageable ......in the mean time I love my electric blanket!!!!

Woke up today at 06:14 to the sound of our building fire alarm.. so gathered up all the meds and such, and hoofed it down 12 flights of stairs after a quick confirmation by our front desk staff that the "3rd floor is full of smoke!!!" on our downwards trek we didn't smell smoke but rather, steam, and lots of it.. so we get down and out, and are surrounded by fire engines and firemen.. Turned out that some idiot in a 3rd floor apt. had turned off the heat, but left a patio door cracked open for "fresh air" overnight - one frozen pipe, so that when they did turn on the heat on getting up -boom - pipe split and flooded them out (and LOTS of Steam everywhere) - needless to say they had no clue where the suite shutoff valves were (we can isolate not only heat, but all domestic water in each suite). Spent the day with no heat or hot water.. The plumbers took the opportunity to do a repair that they were going to do down the road, but after that, once the system as being refilled a Victaulic joint failed on the 29th floor.. Instead of replacing it they got in a welder, so that;'s fixed.. We now have full heat and hot water back..Thanks to some very hard working contractors, and our building maintenance guy!

...wow that sounds scary.  Lucky no one was scalded by it.

12 flights of stairs.  I live on the top (5th) floor of my building and with my creaky joints and slight bit of vertigo it takes at least 3 min to get down the fire stairs (probably longer now due to the fact one hip has been acting up) .  99% of the time it's wither a false alarm or someone burnt toast or microwave popcorn.  There have been times I just barely would get to the1st floor and out the door when the alarm stops (there's a fire station only a few blocks away so the response is very quick).

Crikey, I could never deal with12 floors of stairs.

well.. its sure did a number on our aging legs - walking is painful this AM.. Talking to our front desk staff  - apparently we are onthe fireman's "assistance needed" list, so we are to wot in oue suite to be evacuated if needed...  now they tell us..

Complaint:  Don't you hate it when blowing your nose, the internal pressure finds escape through the drainage tube that runs from the nasal cavity through the tear drainage tube connecting to the inner corner of your eye, and flings a micro-glob of snot onto the inside of your glasses?  I know I do!angry

...bugger, in all my years of working on and updating PCs, never had what I experienced this morning happen.

Swapped out the Titan-X with the RTX 3060, made sure the card was seated properly in the PCIe slot, (heard the click) made sure the power connection to the PSU was tight, connected both displays, booted up only to find one display was getting a signal and it was back on the Intel chipset  graphics .  Apparently the card is not being recognised at all as the fans don't even spin up, it doesn't' appear in any of the hardware monitoring utilities or MSI afterburner.  I shut down to troubleshoot several times but no success..

It came direct from the manufacturer (EGVA) in full factory packaging with the box sealed, warning labels on the bubble wrap and anti static bag, foam protectors on the  PCI interface and output ports, and even the adhesive film scratch protector on the top so it definitely is brand new.

While the fans don't spin it is relaying a signal to the display and thus gets slightly warm, so I'm going to remove it and for now put a spare 750Ti I have in so I can get off the chipset graphics for now (slow) and not risk damaging the new card until I can find a solution. [Correcton: ended up re-installing the Titan-X as the 750 Ti doesn't have a direct display port.]

Yeah really perplexed as I used the same PCIe slot the Titan was (and again is now) in so that isn't the issue. The 3060 has a single 8 pin power port while the Titan-X has an 8 + 6 one.

  • Might you need a newer Motherboard to use the 3060?

    Also, check for newer BIOS.

My old grampa-bear machine is very picky about graphics cards.  I believe it has something to do with the version of PCIe supported.  I tried several times to upgrade Grampa-bear's graphics capability.  Unfortunately, Grampa-bear's original CPU was a 2nd generation, 2-core, Intel-i5-2390T without integrated graphics.  And the motherboard has PCIe-v1 sockets. When I tried to upgrade the original graphics card that grampa-bear came with I found that none of the PCIe-v2(or v3) graphics cards I tried ever worked.  I never did upgrade the graphics card itself.

I don't think it was a limitation of the PCIe interface itself, I think it is more likely that the cheap HP motherboard in Grampa-bear never had a proper BIOS upgrade to support the newer AMD graphics cards, (and yes, I've looked, I have the newest official BIOS for that motherboard)  Supposedly there is a newer unofficial BIOS for my grampa-bear machine but I never found a good link to it.  I ended up replacing the CPU with a different 2nd-generation, 4-core, Intel-i5-2500S that has built-in graphics.  So, when the old AMD graphics card finally dies, I at least will have the integrated graphics from the CPU.

Another thought:  Power.  Do you have enough correct & stable power?  Again with grampa-bear.  I futzed around with grampa-bear for nearly a year trying to understand odd behavior.  It turned out to be the 12 year old power supply just didn't have enough oomph or stability, or couldn't provide the correct shade of blue electrons.  Regardless, replacing the original 250w, stock HP power supply with an EVGA 450w unit solved the problem completely.  Old power supplies probably do just fine for years when used lightly, but heavily used PS's might show issues when pushed beyond typical usage, or just from component ageing.  A new high performance card added to the load might just be enough to expose the gremlins.
