"The supermarket was sold out of ham hocks complaint thread"

No, really. For some reason, the local market had a whole display of smoked ham hocks a few days ago, but by game day, they were sold out!

do potatoes bake faster at lower or higher altitudes?

ready with cheddar and sour cream

I think things bake faster at higher altitudes...I don't think you need to worry, being so close to sea level there.

    Dana

Things come to the boil faster, and at a lower temperature, at high-altitudes because of the reduced pressure - so they cook more slowly - but that doesn't affect dry-cooking like baking.

just remembered fresh rosemay in my fridge. coulda tastied up my spuds shucks

    tarted up potatoes

I'm making all kinds of goodies for the game. We have pizza, wings and garlic bread on the way. I'm making poppers, onion rings, potato skins, and cheese sticks, nd, of course beer.

My television is still unplugged. I'll check on the final score later online.
Because I don't really care, and would rather not suffer through another Super Bowl half-time show. Really.

Unless there's another somewhat interesting "wardrobe malfunction".

Setting aside team loyalties for the moment, at this point we can all surely agree that the advertising industry has a serious substance abuse problem.

I agree, she was very good. I liked her a lot better than Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot. The choreography was well done, though sharks with legs are a bit creepy.

    All in all, I'm impressed.

The game was great, though I was rooting for Seattle by the end of it. But after the fight, I'm back to thinking that both teams should have lost for that behavior!

Around here, businesses have been taking advantage of it and doing all sorts of stupid deflation promotions. And the rock station I listen to had a contest, a deflated ball contest. This station is known for crazy things. The prize was pretty big. The contest was for the smallest…ball…think about it. They actually had guys going into their van and the intern had to measure…probably with a caliper or something…and the smallest one wins. Well, there was a guy with only one. He was the winner. Part of the prize was a big screen Samsung TV I think.

I can’t imagine the people who actually participated in this contest. I guess some folks really will do anything to win a contest.

This is not the first time they’ve done something like this. And once, a very popular female DJ on station WHJY in Providence RI went too far. Her name was Carolyn Fox. On April Fools Day one year, she announced early in the morning that Providence was shut down and nobody should go to work. For further questions, she gave the phone number of a competing radio station. A Fox that can Shock

    Dana

...again apologies for even mentioning it.. Can't believe "deflategate" was such a sore spot compared to all the really tasteless and caustic emails and posts to my FB account that I received from people in Seattle I thought were friends after Green bay lost that game two weeks ago. A lot of them were very tasteless and hurtful.

    ...guess nobody cares. Fine. Bye.

Congratulations Slimer for winning the thread.

A few thoughts on content and gear...

DS 4.7 is free, but content costs.. from around 8 bucks to upwards of 100. It you don't make your own content, this isn't cheap. Not to mention the cost of a laptop/desktop system with enough horsepower to create a render before you die of old age! :bug: It's an expensive hobby.

And, of course, there's the insatiable desire for MORE CONTENT! :gulp:

Well, music software actually isn't any better. :blank: the digital audio workstation software I use set me back $60.. my second DAW program set me back $129.. my final loop-crunching software cost me $79.. my stereo audio file editor cost me $99.. :blank:

Then, of course, you need software instruments and controller keyboards to make the DAW usable (for me, you CAN just use the mouse to enter notes). My two controller keyboards were $149 and $69 ON SALE. :bug: Not to mention all the ones I had to sell when I started moving all over... :long:

The instruments, now, there's a lot of money gone. You can get free ones but they're mostly so-so, the REAL good ones can cost up to $500! :ahhh: But those are mostly used by people making serious cash either selling albums or doing film/TV scores. :blank: The most expensive instrument I own set me back $249, but I use it in every composition - and it's helped me create what I hear in my head, a near-impossible task.

And then.. SOUNDBANKS and PATCHES. These are the musicians equivalent of content, each patch set/soundbank adds new sounds to your existing instrument, allowing you to expand your palette without horking over $200+ for a new instrument. And, like content, you want more.. and more.. AND MOREEEEE! :ahhh: Every new sound inspires new songs, so.. well, you know how THAT goes.

The syndrome is well-known among musicians and is called GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Keyboard players get it, guitar players ALL seem to have it, electronic musicians, producers.. have the insatiable urge to the ONE MORE PIECE OF GEAR, which will allow them to finally . It doesn't happen so you buy more gear.. and more gear.. until you're broke, then you wait until you have money (lol)!

Thankfully, gear for computer musicians is a LOT cheaper than real instruments, not to mention they all fit neatly on a hard drive to travel isn't an issue. %-P I have eight primary instruments and five secondary/specialized, more than enough to pretty much create anything. Three of my primary instruments couldn't be recreated in real hardware, too.

Yep.. today I fell for a soundbank sale for my #1 instrument and bought a bank to use on my album. Or that's how I justified it to myself. :red: :red:

    It's going to make me famous! :-P %-P :P

Hey Troutface, you want to talk expensive hobbies? I do auto racing. Specifically Vintage Auto Racing. Never mind the "capital equipment" cost of having such a car in the first place, there's always something to buy or fix. Two years ago, I had to get a new set of tires. These are special reproduction vintage racing tires I'm required to use. $1900 for a set of 4. Ouch! This year, I had to get a head and neck restraint system to keep up with the latest safety regs. I got a deal at $450, but the thing will need recertification a year sooner 'cause it's last years model. I also had to put new harnesses in the car as they were expired, $100. I signed up for a real spectator event taking place in May. There goes $600 for the entry fee. The hotels all jacked up their rates 2x, so the hotel will cost me another $600 for 3 nites.

At least your hobby is interesting and unusual.

Kick-butt car, by the way - looks cool!
