Hey Troutface, you want to talk expensive hobbies? I do auto racing. Specifically Vintage Auto Racing. Never mind the "capital equipment" cost of having such a car in the first place, there's always something to buy or fix. Two years ago, I had to get a new set of tires. These are special reproduction vintage racing tires I'm required to use. $1900 for a set of 4. Ouch! This year, I had to get a head and neck restraint system to keep up with the latest safety regs. I got a deal at $450, but the thing will need recertification a year sooner 'cause it's last years model. I also had to put new harnesses in the car as they were expired, $100. I signed up for a real spectator event taking place in May. There goes $600 for the entry fee. The hotels all jacked up their rates 2x, so the hotel will cost me another $600 for 3 nites.

$600 for three nights at a hotel is kinda expensive. Wow.

First off, it's in Marin County, CA. Second, the run on rooms had already started. I think the price of the rooms may be inversely proportional to how many rooms are still available for that weekend. The hotels near Sonoma Raceway all know when the major events are, and they adjust rates accordingly.

At spectator events, I get two kinds of people who really want to know about the car. One kind is people who just really like cars and have never seen one like mine before. The other kind is old timers from the area who remember the car or the builder and have great stories to tell. It's a real blast to drive too...

The 112 Octane leaded race gas was $9.25/gal last October. It may have come down. Happy, happy, joy, joy.

Sounds like a typical morning commute on Rt. 128 in the Greater Boston area.

Around here, businesses have been taking advantage of it and doing all sorts of stupid deflation promotions. And the rock station I listen to had a contest, a deflated ball contest. This station is known for crazy things. The prize was pretty big. The contest was for the smallest…ball…think about it. They actually had guys going into their van and the intern had to measure…probably with a caliper or something…and the smallest one wins. Well, there was a guy with only one. He was the winner. Part of the prize was a big screen Samsung TV I think.

I can’t imagine the people who actually participated in this contest. I guess some folks really will do anything to win a contest.

This is not the first time they’ve done something like this. And once, a very popular female DJ on station WHJY in Providence RI went too far. Her name was Carolyn Fox. On April Fools Day one year, she announced early in the morning that Providence was shut down and nobody should go to work. For further questions, she gave the phone number of a competing radio station. A Fox that can Shock

...again apologies for even mentioning it.. Can't believe "deflategate" was such a sore spot compared to all the really tasteless and caustic emails and posts to my FB account that I received from people in Seattle I thought were friends after Green bay lost that game two weeks ago. A lot of them were very tasteless and hurtful.

    ...guess nobody cares. Fine. Bye.

Congratulations Slimer for winning the thread.

I wasn't bothered by your mentioning it. I've just heard about it so much, being in the state where the Patriots are from, and not really that far from their stadium either, maybe 25 minute ride or so. Surely didn't want to chase you away.

Not bad for Marin. I lived in Fairfax and San Rafael for about 3 years before moving into the Valley (Sunnyvale) near the intersection of El Camino and Remington, up from the Whataburger. No such thing as cheap in California, at least when I was there!

Miss the weather and Muir Woods, don't miss the housing costs. :blank:

Here, a day pass is $1.75 or 30 days for $49.. not as cheap as some places, but cheaper than Silicon Valley where a day pass was $3.50 and a monthly pass was nearly $100!!

    - Getting low on patience
    - Seriously crabby mood

STUPID THING OF THE DAY AWARD TO DAZ

So, I have a message light on the phone at my room, usually means mail. I go down and it's a big square box from DAZ - ADDRESSED TO TROUT FACE! :shut: :shut: Of COURSE the front desk had no idea what it was/who "Mr. Trout Face" is, but the front desk lady let me have it anyway. :blank: :blank:

Inside? a 3D printed Vicky In A Catsuit With Two Big Guns. :ahhh:

Yes, I know DAZ does 3D printing now. And yes, at some time in the future I might have a pinup doll printed.. :red: :red: But this must be one Hell of an expensive ad campaign! :ahhh:

Final whinge: my computer somehow got all messed up and I'm having to deinstall/reinstall DS 4.7 to get things working again. :blank: Guess what I'll be doing for the rest of the week? :blank:

Gotta start saving up for moving when we ship this mess.. Tulsa is nice but not a place to live forever..
