The shadow Softness and Intensity values on Photometric Spot Lights do not seem to have any effect on shadows in Iray...

There has been a bit of recent work on re-integrating the photometric light types back into their respective parent types; see the Change Log for 4.8.0.16 - 4.8.0.18. This could only happen after the supporting backend for dynamically hiding/showing properties based on the active mode of the active renderer was completed.

Thanks Rob, it was just confusing.

Ahh, I see at least two huge rendering features in there that people are going to like. :)

So, wondering what stupid Windows update caused this mess.

I had some problems the other day. My windows updates failed then I couldn't right click in certain places. Spent a lot of time with google and reading to fix the updates but nothing worked. And I thought one of the MS repair thingies had caused my right-click problems. Then, boom, it hit me.

It was all due to Spybot Search and Destroy. A comment at some tech blog that wasn't directly related to what I was looking for gave me the clue about the context menu (right-click). For me it worked some places not others. Told Spybot to remove its stuff from the context menu and voila my right-click worked again. Then I realized that Spybot was working in the background. Somehow I must have allowed that to happen without realizing it. So I disabled that, ran Windows Update again and success!.

(Then when I restarted Windows I forgot my password--first time in three years. Took me a while to remember it. That wasn't a very good day.)

    @snowsultan

I too wish that the sun-sky also did nighttime automatically, but I did manage to mess around with the settings and get something passable. aiming for bright moonlit night.

The one setting not included there is that the environment intensity is .0120

Spybot, that thing always was a nightmare, caused more problems than it was worth. Same with AVG, that slowed things to a crawl with its overzealous link scanner. These days I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes AntiMalware, they keep things at bay and don't mess with any resources.

Using a Genesis 1 PH Classic hairstyle.

    Converted to Iray.

Causes the render to grind to a halt after 1-4 iterations (getting CUDA timeouts in the error log)

    Um. ??

Edit: Ok, after deleting it and reapplying the hair, it seems to be behaving properly. ... Weird.

Possibly that intersecting plane issue, possibly. It's a random thought, lol.

Are there plans to enable motion blur for animation in DAZ's Iray?

    http://help.autodesk.com/view/3DSMAX/2015/ENU/?guid=GUID-25648CF2-A60F-450F-8880-8ADCD2EB13FF

Octane has it, but I'd like to continue to save money for a better GPU.

DAZ Studio render hangs at 96% convergence. IRay CPU. Program will not respond unless I shut it down with task manager.

Scene was Mei Lin 6 HD with a IRay material customized to match some of the settings in the skin settings thread, Stonemason's rogue suit, and three photometric spotlights.

I know this is OT but have to agree on this one. I've got MSE and MWB on 3 systems, always keep everything up-to-date, regular backups and so far no problems. Used to use various 3rd party anti-virus but had a number of problems with them over the years. Recently the free version of Panda killed Windows on quite a few systems. Very wary of too much 3rd party protection - sometimes more trouble than its worth.

    Jennyver,

Thanks for posting the video that talks about DAZ Studio's Iray at the Nvidia GTC 2015 Conference! I almost can't believe that they are talking about DAZ there! ;-) Iray is a major leap forward!

I wonder if DAZ is going to go to SIGGRAPH 2015 in August?

Just read up on the change log, Wow I'm so excited!

Implemented the ability to resume canceled/finished Iray renders; in render window, until closed

Resuming a finished render, would that be extending the render time to potentially reduce and clear up more noise? Regardless, pause/resume will be so very handy thanks for this :D

Any improvement if you add subdivision to the object?

That's Iray's texture compression mangling the normal maps. You can disable it by raising the map size thresholds in the advanced render settings.

Hopefully that feature isn't finalized and there's a fix for it, especially considering how vital normal maps are for software geared towards a PBR texturing workflow.

What happens if you use the Iray Uber Shader and put the Normal Map in the Normal map channel?

NVM. I see now that it is already.

Yes it is possible it is texture compression.

Yes, you're absolutely right. The reason was in compressed textures.
    Thanks for the help.

Change log is still at 4.8.0.18 but I am very excited with the fixes and changes. Kudos for dynamically hidden properties and merge the light types. These are amazing steps to simplify the user experience. Thanks for that!

I finally got to try out the DAZ Studio Pro 4.8 Beta with NVIDIA Iray — OMG, this is game changing!

Everything is rendering fast and beautifully by default, and having the viewport rendering option for NVIDIA Iray is awesome... so happy to be fully utilizing the Quadro K6000 in my PC workstation.

Thank you SO MUCH for putting this tech in DAZ Studio!!!!

This is seriously a dream come true...

The Change Log page updated sometime in the past few hours. It details changes through 4.8.0.20 and shows they are now working on 4.8.0.21. (http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log#private_build_channel)

I'm getting pretty excited about the next Beta update. Whenever that is. Agreeing with MBusch, thanks for all the hard work.

    Hi
I just updated Nvidia driver to 346.01.01f01 on my mac on Yosemite so it asked to also update my CUDA driver to 7.0.29 with i did.
So i DO run the latest drivers for my GTX 780 and for CUDA.

Since that, i can't use my GPU to render in Iray anymore.

Message in the log file is :

"WARNING: /src/pluginsource/DzIrayRender/dzneuraymgr.cpp(256): Iray WARNING - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.1 IRAY rend warn : Failed to determine NVIDIA CUDA driver version; iray can only run in CPU mode. Please update your NVIDIA driver (www.nvidia.com)."

I'm using DAZ PUBLIC BUILD 4.8.0.9

    Any fix available soon please?
    Thanks
    Cecile

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can fix when it comes to drivers. The Mac drivers tend to be even more of an issue since Apple stopped putting out the CUDA driver with the launch of 10.10 and their proprietary hardware.
