Actually, there is a direct link to the Nitaland outfit that does not require an account:

    Thank you SixDs. :cheese:

I do not have a membership for PFDLives so could not confirm that link but you have more than enough.

    ENTRY ACCEPTED

I do, and I have confirmed it...if that counts for anything.

    Dana

Thanks Dana. That's good enough for me. :-)

    Woot!

I keep trying to drag people like Kismet over to PFDlives... The shoes might have made it to the open freebie section by now. When they do I will update the link. I went out and got Willow for Dawn because I wanted to use Byudragonbreath’s Nitaland outfit for Star and Dawn in the freebie contest... but I was afraid my textures, and other people's share-able versions, would not be done in time for the end of the month so I went ahead and started the long render with another outfit, just using the shoes and a shader on them. Of course, that meant their textures got done in time and now I feel bad. I am going to have to come up with another place to use the textures. (And get to work on my own... texturing from scratch is an area where I need to grow.)

As for the mouse trap, I was very impressed with it. All the parts move! And it comes with the perfect shape of cheese. In general, the freebies I happened across this month were very high quality. (I haven't been rendering long enough to have much of a freebie inventory, more or less I go scavenger hunting each time I do a render!) Ratty's arms, legs, head, snout, eyes, hands, ears and belly size all have posing and shaping adjustments. And that his hair approximates the fuzziness of hair in Daz is saying something... usually Poser handles fur much better than Daz and content makers skip the fur for Daz entirely. And I only used a fraction of the bedroom set! I think I grabbed that from the "What dreams may come" contest. I don't remember where Kismet used a mouse trap so now I am going to have to go looking through all his renders (I blame the short term memory issues for not knowing!) That's a good thing though, Kismet does nice work, it will be good to review his portfolio. ;-)

As for simple... I have been trying to take advantage of the advice given and make my scenes simpler to read. I have looked at some of the other entries and how they have used freebies, that not every freebie needs to be a prop; that people find skins, morphs, poses, lights, and textures valuable to have as freebies too without them being obvious in the scene. I think the thing I find most valuable right now are items NOT for v4, or m4, since unlike many I don't have the characters, and don't have the UV's, so using items for them is very hit or miss. You would think v4 would work for k4, but almost anything works better for k4 than vicky stuff.

The other thing I am appreciating lately in freebies is good, sharp, high resolution textures. One thing I wanted to mention and forgot to do so in my original post.. in another contest over at Hivewire for their Dusk character, I did a football theme. I ended up using a Blender football helmet... in the zip file texture folder is a "metal flake" texture that is the most awesome thing I have found for making metallic flake gloss. You don't have to be able to open the Blender file to get the texture. There are spots where I used it so I should have included it on my list, but in this case it is very subtle. I wish I had found it in time for the car challenge! For using it in Daz, I use the diffuse map, and then in photoshop I make a very bright, super saturated and high contrast version of the diffuse. I put that in the specular color, and the metallic flake map in the specular strength. With some adjustments to gloss and reflection for the individual lighting in the scene, it works pretty well. Here is the link to the helmet in case anyone is interested:
    "American Football Helmet"

If anyone is interested in the Dusk contest at Hivewire, here is the link. There are still five more days and the prizes are out of this world. As for freebies, my second Dusk entry does not use a single paid item. ;-) (I got the evilinnosence shirt during their backstage pass open doors earlier this month) http://hivewire3d.com/forum/forum/the-arena/official-hivewire-3d-contests/2359-hivewire-3d-dusk-rendering-competition-2015

Good luck everyone, and thanks for the feedback.

Why don't you just put the converted helmet up somewhere, as freebie?

I think we all get conditioned to the "no redistribution allowed" condition that tends to apply to most freebies, Mcj. Of course, many of the blends over on Blendswap tend to be far more liberal, but Fiona may not have even realized that it was possible.

    Especially CC-0 (Public Domain)...

Because if Fiona does put it up, then I won't have to...right now, it looks like I'll be doing that around July... It was on my list of things to convert and post. Between that list and my backlog of my own work, I may be a little too optimistic.

OOOH.... you are so completely correct in that assessment, I had no idea that CC-0 items were allowed to be re-distributed. The rules about what can and cannot be re-distributed are so strange and foreign to me that I have shied away from sharing anything. I have a freebie room already set up at PFD's freebie side, I guess I should set up something on sharecg as well. I wonder if I posted the beginnings of a FAQ document with the questions about sharing/redistributing/converting, someone with knowledge would answer them, and it could be stickied as a reference? TY for the info, I would be happy to share any other cc-0 items I come across since Blender can open and convert a number of file formats.

You should pm Music, then. He's kind of busy and doesn't seem to stop in here as often lately. I think a pm will get his attention quicker.

I can't wait to hear the theme. I was thinking of that game, "Mother May I?" since it's the month of May, with mother's day in it and all. I can think of all sorts of things that I could ask "May I?" to, many of which I am not sure I would want to ask my mother. ;-)

I guess we are open for suggestion, I have sent my idea to Music, not that it is very good but if there is few more ideas I hope hope he can choose the best and most interesting :)

OK!...gulan7 will be hosting the May challenge. He has a pretty good idea for a theme, but I think he may be open for any ideas. I thought that since May6th-12th is National Nurses Week, maybe do a "My Favorite Nurse" theme. You can do some funny stuff with it and needles...ooooooo...anyway, there are many ideas.

    :-)

hmm. I am sure I will be able to work with whatever someone comes up with, and if not my loss, but the nurse/needles comment kind of made me squicky... I have been on and off of chemo for the last 7 years and while a lot of it has been fairly mild, I have had my share of not mild types. The thought of needles still induces anxiety related nausea at times. Funny how one persons funny is another persons not funny? I am sure I have all sorts of not funny moments. Of course there are many nurses that I am profoundly grateful for, and I could do a thank you note type render, for sure. Or maybe it could become a good opportunity to turn something that is currently a sticking point (haha) into a different perspective... maybe I will find something funny or remember something funny that happened. Or reflect on how I showed up to my first chemo with blue hair. (Because I had always wanted blue hair and if it was going to fall out, what the heck!)

I am anxiously (not the bad kind) waiting to hear this theme!

And happy Nurses month one day early to all you nurses out there!

I do tend to agree with you. It is a very specific type of them really, I think we need more general themes to really get this contest going. Just my 0.02p

Argh! I probably won't make it in time. Too much non-silly stuff in the RW to feel silly enough. The other problem is, I end up spending more time hunting down the links to freebies than doing the render. If I can do a render and hunt down 10 links, I'll post tonight. Where does the time go???

As to next month's theme, if you think Nurses can't be funny, I recommend viewing the classic British comedy, "Carry on, Nurse" for inspiration.

I don't need to hunt it down I saw it in the cinema when it first came out. I just am not keen on contest themes that are too specific. That is just my opinion. I front the Bryce render challenge and haven't even done a render myself this time, because the theme was one I just couldn't get into.
