The choice is between 95 octane and 98 octane (which costs more), those are the options, no low octane versions here and hardly any cars that could even use the lower octane gas.
Really? here in TX I use mid grade and that is 87-89 octane. Premium is around 91-93 octane, but I don't know anyone that uses it.
The more I look at this release, the more I am liking some of the outfits
Yeah, We know... The reason is economy and horsepower. European cars tend to use higher compression ratios than american ones and it means using higher octane gas, but you get more power and better mileage that way.
Gas has always been expensive here and the recent events have made it just more expensive (~15% increase within a month), that's why we try to take as much out of the gas we use as possible. That is also one reason for european cars being that much lighter than US ones.
She looks like someone I would meet in the real world. Well done.
I love idealised characters but it's nice to also have characters that look a little more "everyday", or whatever.
I think she's the best character they've released yet, a really good job was done.
A wellcomed trend it is
There will be normal maps with the base figure, which are the same detail baked to a map.
I was pretty excited about seeing this new character. I wonder, though, if someone could help me by identifying the outfit worn in the promo in the link below. Thanks in advance.

Here in the US (which includes daily driver models imported to the US), cars will (generally) use 87 or 89. Putting a higher octane into them won't hurt, but it won't help either. Higher performance engines will often call for 93...or if you have a car like mine (a modified 2006 Mustang GT) that has been tuned to run on higher octane gas due to mods or engine upgrade/replacement, then those would often look for 93. But most places here you can't get anything higher than that unless you go to a race shop.
It's this one:

Thank you both of you, @evacyn and @shadem980!
I think she looks interesting, would love to see some buyers renders of her!
Would have to agree that she actually looks more like a "normal" person than about any other figure to me. I think she'd be very suitable for book covers and things like that, to present a protagonist as a regular person with a normal life and a more or less normal job that people could identify with. Perhaps also as a generic background character in other renders (if your rig allows for it). But much less suitable as a centerpiece character for other types of renders like virtual novels, art renders or product promo's. There are other models with better archetypes for that.
I personally dislike epilated (mutilated) brows like she has, but might some time in the future buy her for just that reason. Or maybe find similar brows on another character for that purpose. But for now, I have no use for those brows or the rest of the character, so I'll just keep an eye out in case she ever pops up in a better sale than the current.
Just noticed she has a skin seam where the head and neck texture meet in the closeups with the dark background...which means she probably has noticeable seams everywhere. My guess is those promos were done with spectral rendering turned on...and her skin settings (sss) are not compatible with spectral rendering out of the box.
I miss Pro bundles.
I really like the character; I struggle to find anything else I'm interested in.
It's possibly just that make-up set (which I can't see is included with the base figure). Some samples below with one of the included makeups, second with spectral.
I just finished my render of her HD, after having some issues, not with her but the hair color and top and the external hard drive deciding to unmount itself after simulation.
I used one of her makeups that is very subtle and selected eyes from a 8.1 eye package and fibermesh brows I have. The HDRI is from the offerings today. My read is her age is late 30s, early 40s, and may have been into piercing when young and now has the scars left over. A real person.
Mary
She looks great!
Looking at the description, it says this

Is there no seperate head and body morph?
I like the character, I don't even mind the shape of the pencil line brows, but wish they came as an attachment instead of part of the texture. (There is a no-brow option). I found her difficult to light in Daz using my usual light sets, but I'm not really sophisticated at setting up lights in Daz. I only have the base figure, not the HD. There feels like a decent amount of detail backed into the texture. Sorry for the chonk pngs, didn't realise until after I uploaded everything.
Mary has the hands looking good in her render above.

I've always thought that the female characters were never as realistic as the males, maybe a little too "perfect." Leanne is a lot more realistic than some of the previous female characters. She looks like a real person. She might not be a supermodel, but the world isn't mae up of stunningly beautiful people. She looks a lot better than some of the past characters. I got the HD add-on to get more realism in her features. I hope more of the characters coming along are as realistic as this one.
There's a seperate head slider that works independent of the body.
Thanks for the nice renders, @sid!
And look how people are reacting to that. Driving less, moving to cheaper places, buying cheaper food, they are cutting back what they buy somewhere. That "somewhere" is often on hobby stuff, which is what Daz typically is for most users. Also...those things are real items you can hold in your hands. You cannot hold Leanna 8.1 in your hand. There is no supply shortage of Leanne because the 3D model can be replicated an unlimited number of times. The only limiting factor in who can buy Leanna is the number of Daz users, and their bank accounts. Otherwise they can supply Leanna 8.1 indefinitely to every man, woman, and child on the planet...provided they have Daz accounts.
These things are simply not comparable. Ever. You cannot possibly compare Daz to common essentials, much less any real world physical items that have limited resources. We went over this during the March Madness sale, which BTW just so happened to drop sale prices about halfway through the sale. Gee I wonder what happened there? I have no idea. Digital products have their own economy independent from the real world. There certainly are factors in setting digital prices, obviously they can't just give it away and I don't expect that. Of course it takes time to create these items, which is ultimately what people pay for here. But I also do not see any reason to increase prices, either. Not on digital goods.
If anything, Daz should have seen huge profits last year. Pretty much anything that could be done at home saw big increases last year. Gaming, streaming, whatever you can do at home saw big gains, and well Daz is one of those things. So actually, Daz should be doing wonderfully well right now. I do not know if that is the case, but if it is, that makes the price increases even worse IMO. If business at Daz is not going really well right now, then they are doing something very, very wrong.
That said, I think Leanna is alright. The promos look pretty decent. She doesn't stand out, and maybe that is the point. You can't have super models every time. Leanna looks more grounded in reality than most of the main Daz crew, and especially compared to some of the goofy stuff in the past year or so. She has the character actor in a weekly drama look going.
However, I have zero interest in any of the bundles. Certainly not at these prices. I might get Leanna some time when she goes on a better discount, but I will probably never get the bundles. I used to get bundles here and there, now I almost never get a bundle from Daz. Part of it is learning more about Daz, but another is the pricing and quality of things in Daz bundles. That is whole different issue, the growing complaints about quality of items in bundles. So we are paying more and often seeing less quality. Now there are some comparisons that can be made in that regard, with quality seemingly becoming an optional component of a lot of things we buy today. But that is a whole different argument, because again, those things are physical goods.
Even if the same method of calculation was used, there is still a difference.
When I was working on the nearby car factory that was making Saab at the time, the ones manufactured for US market had lower compression ratio (and less power) than ones made for Europe, Japan or Australia, just because the lower octane fuel will cause knocking if used in higher compression engines. Knocking can break the engine.
Edit: Modern cars can adjust the timing etc. of the engine to accommodate lower octane fuel, but that is done at the expence of fuel economy.
Gift card sale is one reason I always wait to purchase Core Figures.
Thanks for the renders everyone! The scars are putting me off a little. I'm not seeing a no-scar option, unfortunately ...
