Why join Discord?

I have no idea what Discord is about other that it has something to do with NFTs and DAZ wants us on there for some reason, and is offering freebees and deals to get us to join. So I joined discord to get the coupons and freebees, and I get on there and discover it's a form of social media. What's the point, why not just use the forums? What has this form of social media got to do with NFT's? I can't figure it out, so I decide I'll get my coupon and leave. I'm supposed to look for the DAZ channel to get the deals. I click on the DAZ icon, and I see no indication as to where the coupons are or how use to them. Nothing. What am I missing here? It all seems utterly pointless from what I can see,

I joined the Discord channel today. The coupons are in the "daz-deals" channel, under "Communications" headline. A code there for a free Daz Original Nature product is currently active there.
I got this: https://www.daz3d.com/missing-jet
Not bad for a Discord channel I have no other use for.
Thanks Daz.![smiley smiley](https://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)
Sorry, I already belong to everal game related discords and I like them, but the theme and atmosphere of the DAZ/NFT one isn't for me, coupons or not.
Has DAZ even logged on to their own Discord?
I'd be embarrassed to have that connected to my company name. Seriously.
Maybe they need to rename the product... a prop driven jet?
It has a very dark side to it. As for gamers, it's the new kid on the block for communication. Ventrilo and Team Speak were the major player's in-game communications.
Well, this discord does have to do with NFTs / NFPs as it seems to be designed to be DAZ's main communications channel for these things. I thought the current promos were for another, a new and general DAZ discord and so clicked this time, but was lead straight to a welcome notice by 'BlockchainJenny' - so that's settled ... None too happy about this, I actually feel a bit tricked. But since I don't seem to be getting the necessary verification e-mail, it doesn't matter much, can't join anyway.
They should make another server for DAZ 3D.
The actual server is full of pro-NFT material and looks like a only girl club (i'm a white etero cis gender male... not a place for me).
I enter on Discord server only when there are coupons, for the rest of time I ignore it.
They seem to have straightened out a few things since they first announced a Discord server. First time around, it seemed that you had to join with a Discord account linked to the same email address that you use for DAZ (or at least that was a requirement to benefit any of the special offers). That no longer seems to be the case.
As for the NFT stuff, DAZ has grouped the NFT-related channels into 'categories', and Discord allows you to mute not only individual channels -- so they won't pester you when something new gets posted -- but whole categories as well. So you can just mute the Non-Fungible People and Fight Back Apes categories (and anything else you don't want to see), and enjoy a peaceful NFT-free existence.
Yes, the name does not make much sense indeed, but I still had the product sitting in my wishlist for quite a while, as I like it.
No idea why people like discord so much, but a lot of people seem to. A lot of support for things, like wabbajack and a few of the blender tools I use are only on discord. I won't say it's horrible, but I really don't see the pull of it either. Reminds me of AOL chatrooms from back in the day lol.
It's correctly named. The jet is clearly missing from the product.
Except of course, you don't. Due to the incessant NFT-related @everyone announcements that Discord chooses to relay to you despite the muting.
...before Covid hit the Shadowrun Missions gaming group I was with attempted to move to Discord and found it unmanageable for our needs so they dumped it and just stayed with FB for notifications and discussion..(the primary reason I even have a FB account).
Yeah, I kvetched about that when the product first went up and... crickets. There's an awful lot of stuff like that sneaking into the product mix now, and the text for the daily sales is often so poorly worded that it feels like the authors speak English as a second or third language and what we're seeing is coming via Google Translate.
It's called Discord, and that's what it seems to specialize in sowing. But what can you expect from a site where the name was chosen based mainly on the fact that the domain name was available?
I don't care how many enticements they offer to join ... I strongly object to NFTs and I will not go there. I am a member on other Discord venues but I am not a regular visitor. The advantage is sometimes being able to discuss things that forum moderators would not allow so, for that reason, it is a pity that the DAZ discord is so focused on NFT.
You're assuming that there was a logic beyond "it's trendy" and "People have heard of it."
Discord has been around a long time and was created by gamers because they didn't want to deal with the toxic chat that came with games, also the only people who can get into a particular server are those who are invited, you have to have the code to get into any server and each server has a different code, in some cases that code changes. It's great if you just want one for family and friends to play games, chat, share video's and pictures and you can even do voice chat and video chat, also group versions of that. So many things you can do on discord. Also you can use the app on computer, laptop or phone, and only need one account for all of them, the only thing you do need is the internet.
Are there toxic servers on discord, of course there are, toxicity exists on any social medium. All you have to do if you don't like how things are run in a particular server is right click on the icon on the left and choose leave server, that's it and it's done. Also if you have your own server you can ban people.
Now as to whether or not it's for you depends on why you would want to be there. In Daz's case, they wanted a place for those interested in NFT's without the backlash from those who had no interest in them, like on the forums here. It's more private if that's what you want, and you don't have to watch every word you say like on some places.
Now should you join the Daz server? Well considering I got several hundred $$$ worth of freebies all through December because of the NFP server, on top of all the freebies here at Daz, in my cause it was a definite yes. As for notifications, @everyone will get you one even if you mute it, the upside is you won't get that annoying ding on your phone or computer when that happens, just a little number shows on the task bar's icon, the number will tell you how many messages have been sent to everyone and it's entirely up to you if you want to check them or not. Oh and you can mute the whole server, as well as the categories and channels.
I personally intensely dislike Discord...lol. It's too "cluttered" for me ;)
Essentially, they are buying subscribers with the freebees.
That's... kind of DAZ's whole marketing strategy. Give away the software and figures to sell the clothes, give away older product to sell the newer, etc.
You'll want to right click on the server icon, go notification settings, and then there's a little list of @mentions which you'll want to change to nothing, so that you won't get the annoying notifications anymore :) I'm just there for the coupons
I dislike NFT enough that I don't care about any freebies or coupons; I joined, but don't look at it.
We use discord for our D&D, otherwise I don't look at it. I remember looking at it as someone of DA said they had a channel, which was less than good.
I joined a few months back. Found the place boring and completely useless and never went back.
I refuse to pad their discord membership numbers. Not even for freebies. I don't like NFTs or anything about them and I will not be bribed. In my opinion, joining the discord just for the free "gifts" is tacit approval of the behavior and thus encouraging it to continue. But that's just my opinion. Your(general not specific) mileage may/can/will vary.
I don't see a "daz-deals" channel, or a "Communications" headline. Here's a screen shot, how do I get to the coupons?
That is because you didn't verify yourself.
Go to START HERE - verify here.
Then follow the instruction below the rules (click the emoji displayed there).
The remaining channels will appear and open to you.
Cancel that, I just found it, thanks.
Perhaps I don't spend enough time wandering around crypto-NFT land, but I've never heard a peep about "Non-Fungible People" outside of Daz itself. I don't think they've exactly set the world on fire here.
I'll take freebies where I can get them, though.
