@columbine: thank you for the detailed review, very useful! I'd love to write reviews like that myself, but I rarely ever buy items when they're new, and I think there's limited use for reviews of things that were released forever ago.

When I found DAZ in 2016, I had no clue as to the difference with 3DL and Iray materials and bought whatever I wanted that caught my eye. Later with DAZ Deals I found myself researching products for people's experiences with an old product, even a realitively new one. I appreciate the number of times old hands at 3D taught me years after a post, what to look for, what to avoid, how to upgrade a 3DL item to Iray, or how to use a pose set (bows and arrows) correctly, and it just goes on. Or the threads where a person asked for suggestions for a scene and so many people pitched in with links or critques. It helped me grow my runtime in a more constructive way. This is why I will take the time out of my day to research for those queries today and try to help. Can't help on tech questions, but products I will if it is something I have. @Hylas I am pretty sure you were one of the helpers in threads I have read over the last seven years. Thank you.

Aw, I appreciate that! I wonder if it was really me who helped you with stuff, I only started in 2018. But if I did, that makes me very happy!

I'm really loving the new Toyen hair, https://www.daz3d.com/dannie-hair-for-genesis-9. It uses the new curve shader thingie it seems that Chevybabe 'discovered'. So everything will be a lot less heavy on the system I hope. Looks really cute as well!

Fabiana with a new edition of her fabulous jewellery sets! What a lovely surprise. Of course, the bundle flew straight into my cart. So far, she hasn't had much jewellery in her Daz shop, as she mainly sells through Rendo (she has beautiful things for G9 there, by the way). Fabiana's promos are already a pleasure to look at. Informative and aesthetic; not everyone can do that.

The second great debut for me is Row House's POLPO Fantasy Headdress. WOW!

I really love the looks of the "Dragonhide PCS for Genesis 9 Bundle". And the same is true for the previous iteration.

I had these things in my cart at least a dozen times, but they never lasted until checkout.

    And here is why:

I can`t wrap my head around the question, how a pilot would fit and/or act in its inside.
In my mind it does only work as a robotic iteration or if one would scale it up several times and place a full size cockpit in its head.
The only types of humanoids i could imagine, who would fit in such an armor, would look like these:
(EDIT: or could be the arch-enemy from that Tank Girl movie   wink )

And this just doesn`t work for me. It would be sth. that i buy and most likely never make use of.

If anyone who owns the products could provide some renders with a human in front of the armor to get a more precise impression on how it would translate
it would be very much appreciated.

EDIT 2: this picture is not meant to violate the owners copyright, but to explain the situation (educational purpose if one may say so)
and i DO LIKE the bundles a lot! I just wish there would be an option to morph them towards a more realistic(?)/reasonable(?) shape

  • Oso's VDB Ground War explosions are interesting. I feel the distinction between conventional and nuclear events is simply a shorthand for scale, as the physics behind the clouds is basically the same. However, the clouds and flames are a realistic shape. Including the concussion pulse ring is something not often modelled. Got to say that is good. Not for me at the moment, as my images are rarely other than domestic, but I'll bear it in mind for if I ever need explosions. Regards, Richard.

The things that are keeping me from buying the G9 version bundle right away are the environment and the texture add-on. The environment may be extremely resource intensive based on history with other of that PA's sets, and I don't like buying outfits or texture sets that have a lot maps in them like, 1372. Though, I could just not install the components in question.

I don't trust the Delta Loadout accessories either. But the price of the bundle is good than just buying the base suit. That's the real dilemma for me.

As I think I noted in the other Dragonhide threads somewhere, at least for the G8 version there is a special body shape/distortion (VERY strange looking) that has to be applied because a human does not actually fit into the suit in any plausible way. In the story universe where I have used this suit for a special military branch, the volunteers for that special unit also have to make, uh, a very big personal sacrifice.

What interests me about the G9 Dragonhide bundle as compared to the G8 one is

The G8 bundle contains four parts: The armor itself (both G8F and G8M versions in one kit), a texture add-on, a weapon pack, and a pose pack ... all listed as Daz-Os, with Herschel Hoffmeyer as the sole actual PA.

The G9 bundle also contains four parts, and all are listed as Daz-Os in addition to their real PA(s), but there the similarities end:
    - The armor itself is by HH *and* Matari
    - The textures add-on is by Shox
    - The weapon pack is by Xivon
    - The hangar set (that actually doesn't have anything to do with this) is also by Xivon
    - There is no pose pack (an omission which will come bite them because the G8 version of the suit absolutely NEEDED special poses, and with G9's horrible posing, this is going to be felt even more)

Reading the entrails and chicken bones, I can't help but wonder if HH didn't want to do a G9 Dragonhide and Daz said, "Well, we want one, so if it's OK with you, we're going to enlist some help and do one anyway. Actually, because you let us call it a Daz-O, we can do it even if it's not OK with you."

I'm sure it's a good kit (and the G9 bundle is actually ten dollars cheaper, list price, than the G8 one). *I* won't buy it because I already have the G8 and there just isn't sufficient here that's new, but if you didn't have the G8 version this would probably be a pretty good purchase.

  • I know I am the last person in the universe fighting the good fight on this but is there no one at Daz who can spell "hangar" properly? This is not the first time.

A hanger is what you put clothes on. A hangar is what you put aircraft in.

But what if your clothes are, in a way, an aircraft too ? laugh

Maybe the idea is that when the suits are not in use, they will be hanged up on the hanger devil

    Clowns :P

I admit that if you put the Dragonhide suits on hangers they might need a hangar to contain the hangers.

(More seriously, I was hoping the Exo Suit Hangar set would have suit bays, like little docks for the suits. In my story universe there's a line about how it's nearly impossible to get in and out of the suit without a special rack that's built to do it.)

I happen to have bought the original bundle about two days ago for six dollars (I think it was a lightning deal), and I'm considering this one because, with all of my discounts, both bundles together will amount to less than $20, but that hangar really gives me pause. I think it's clearly an environment designed for something else that got re-themed so it would fit in this bundle, but when it's decoupled from its original function like this, I'm honestly not certain what a lot of the stuff in it is supposed to be. Spaceship parts?

  • Incidentally, I thought I saw someone asking how big the Dragonhide suit is relative to a normal person? (But maybe I imagined that. I just scrolled up and couldn't find that anywhere.)

    Anyway, big.

Here's 3/4 of a page from my story that has Stheck, one of the members of the exo corps. You can see her next to Randa and Treth in some of the panels for comparison.

[I'm not going to also drop the attachment into the post, because it's just too large.]

So, you're one of those hangar hangers on? (That's not a bad thing! But it seems like for every person you teach to spell something, the cruel universe will provide ten more who spell it wronger.)

I've been putting the new Dragonhide in my cart and then removing it over and over again. The price, with the discounts including the one for owning gen 8 version, is very appealing, but the more I look at it, the more I think there isn't much that would be exciting. The main product is nice enough (probably because it's done by HH), but the addons are lackluster, and the hangar is more of a hanger indeed. Nothing except for the name is made for exosuits: no stations for loading/storing, no frames to build them or repair them. No spare parts. I guess I wouldn't be that critical if not the name, but as it, it's another point against getting it.

The price is nice, though... But I suppose I can get it some time next year or in two years when it drops again to those levels. With the bundle being a DO now, there's a bigger chance to get it cheap.

I've been waiting for Stonemason to do a utopian city set, and he finally did. Another winner. Thankfully, cameras and render settings are included. All that's missing is a place to put the statue of our Fearless Leader. Apparently utopia's streets aren't streets anymore. Probably because cars are outlawed, and all journeys must be a maximum of 15 minutes transit round trip. There's also no need for advertising, since private property is abolished for the hoi polloi.

The hangar looks pretty multi purpose, possibly a back or side section of a longer hangar, or a special section of a not too small ship with special forces on, or it's in a building. The stairs of the control station or whatever that is, leading to the lane is a bit odd. Initially, at first glance,  i thought THAT would be some kind of bay or medical station, or repair station for the mech itself, yet it looks like some control thing. As some kind of control station, it probably shouldn't have the stairs ending on the runway (...). The runway looks like it's extended to the outside, where there could be more sections or hangars, but needn't. It could be a modernist catapult with induction or other field effects plus "rail gun" (for mechs and torpedoes) in one, or with gravity weilding, or a treadmill thing.

Concerning bays... many hangars in space cruisers and carriers might only be like the landing/starting place, and maybe for quick refuel, rearm and some cosmetic repairs, plus just enough room for emergency care, with elevators leading to the actual bays. I understand that storytelling might demand for something integrated now and then, still compartmentalization still absolutely makes sense on (space) ships, mind airlocks. The lane also seems to extend to both sides, so i'd assume the actual bays might be further to the inside.

The wearer requires some serious morphing to fit.  Here's a render I made a while back showing what the pilot looks like without the suit: Dragonhide Trooper | Daz 3D
