Thank you CHWT!
Mixed with Oso Elder:
Yes, I had both installed before loading Fanny. Anyway, according to the product page, Xiu Lin is not required for Fanny.
There is no rush for me. I can apply the textures manually. I am more concerned about why her skin is so blown out in lighting that works fine for other Daz characters.
Edit: I scrolled down through the messages and see that you have already posted a fix for the eyelashes and eyes. Thanks.
Sure! It's one of the expressions from the Pixie for Genesis 9 Expressions package, "P9E Excited," dialed to 39.6%
That looks good, Will.
I don't know why this took so long to render, it's still grainy as!
Not a flattering comparison if you look at the level of detail around the eyes on the male figure and then at the female one.
And for barbult - now I've finished that other render, here's Fanny under different lighting.
Blown out using the (very old now!) Click n Render set, as barbult found.
Probably multiple reasons. Just one is that the lightning set doesn't play well with the character's SSS. Same setiings as above but SSS turned off:
But she doesn't blow out under other lighting conditions. I've turned them back on and rendered under Daz defaults,:
And under again HDRI with some additional soft lights, SSS turned back on, curved studio background
Thanks for all the examples, sid. I've had good luck with the Click N Render set with all other Daz Original characters I own. I usually use C1-IBL-24. I'll experiment with Fanny in other lights. That might make it difficult to combine characters in the same scene, though. I'll see.
Maybe. The people doing promos need to remember that we will pick apart every pixel of these things.
Still, this model looks strange. Her eyes really bother me, they look very...video game-ish. A big step backwards, IMO.
Another thing that really bothers me is that much of the work in these core character's skin comes from 8k normals that we already have. Nearly all the core characters use this same normal map for detail. They do have some normal maps, but they are for larger features like wrinkles and scars.
As far as I am aware the 8K maps are meant to be common - the distinctive appearance comes from the other maps.
That doesn't change the fact of the situation though, does it? The premium 8k maps that Daz advertizes Genesis 9 on are mostly reused with different "core" characters.
Regardless of what the intent behind it is, it results in most core G9 characters containing fewer unique textures than past generations, because the detail maps are shared. I don't think this was ever made clear to customers going into G9. I was expecting each core to have its own detail maps, and for that matter, so did many others. After all, we had users who were afraid of all the data G9 was going to eat on their hard drives or consume in their VRAM. That would be good information to have.
Since most core characters actually do not have 8k maps in their downloads, they don't take so much data on storage as some users feared. Thus informing users can help ease them into understanding G9 is not going to stuff up their hard drives more than past generations. So there are postives and negatives to this detail map strategy.
All I'd like to see is for Daz to be more transparent about these things, so people know what they are buying. These are not books or movies that people want to avoid spoilers for a possible surprise plot twist. These are assets, and people purchasing assets should be able to know everything about the asset they are buying before they buy it. This is something that customers may not even know after using these models.

Gonna step on in and say that is not really true. Some may utilize those details, but a good portion that I have, have unique and distinctively different micros built right in to their normal maps. Those inlcude:
Angela,Genghis, Ivar, Julia, Minerva, and Nikolai
MallenLane made it clear in a single post that the 8k normal details maps would be available on all G9 characters when I asked him specifically about them. But I don't remember seeing this fact advertised officially. Transparency is not a strong suit here.
I was specifically referring to this part of the statement " Nearly all the core characters use this same normal map for detail. They do have some normal maps, but they are for larger features like wrinkles and scars." .
No 8k and 4k maps are very different things. The 4k ones still contain way more information, including unique micros, on the ones I specifically named.
Thanks to the people that posted in this thread and shared their renders! I wanted to get a new skin for an east asian looking character I was creating for a story inspired image and was on the edge until I read this thread on how good the male morph looked. This totally sold me since I eventually also wanted to make a male character in addition to a female one! My render is not anywhere as cool looking as the one that @carlosgimpera created (with Aroon face and other normal maps added in - not sure how to do that yet), but my newbish efforts of an out of box male (base masculine slider at 100%) let me create this render!
I think there are some wonky issues with the cheeks (pointed out by @outrider42) and skin around the eyes (also mentioned), but overall I think he looks pretty good! I didn't even have to change out the eyebrows. FACs is at 100% for the render and I might have added vellus hair. The hair on him is a Genesis 2 hair (Drifter Hair) with backlight shaders, so not the best hair, but I liked the hairstyle on him.
Seeing another Aroon render by @Zicon makes me wish I had that bundle, but the Xiu Lin 9 HD and Fanny Bundle was on sale the other day and I was able to get it for $22, so I couldn't resist! That bundle also had another skin included (a Mousso character), so I'm pretty happy! :D
Makes an excellend man, looks good there @Shimrian! Really friendly face.
I used the skin as well for one of my male book-project characters, and now I love him so much. Ended up reminding me a tiny bit of Hu Bing, which is fine!
Wow, @sid, the render of your character looks really cool, he is very intense!
I've done a render of Aroon? That's news to me.
Edit: Oops, my bad. You quoted @Pax Asteriae and I copied wrong name. :D
