Interesting!!!!
I'm testing it on her Eirgrid Hair now, and it's looking good. I may have to play with some other settings elsewhere, but this is a quick render of how it looks. I'm messing with the gloss settings a bit, but it still looks promising.
One more from me (since PhilW reminded me of his SBH hairs...)
This time for Genesis 8.1. MSO Maureen with Long Drape Hair, Revolution - Omni Shader (Dark Chocolate).
Just found the second hair in my already purchased products library, that works with Omni Shader.
https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-alexa-hair-for-genesis-3--8-females
Used Coffee Bean preset from https://www.daz3d.com/revolution--omni-shader-presets-for-strand-based-hairs
The quest for finding Strand Based hair in my library will continue...
Another compatible hair has been found - https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-bristol-hair-for-genesis-8
I have applied Blushed Blonde Intense preset from https://www.daz3d.com/revolution--omni-shader-presets-for-strand-based-hairs
Hair by Cake One also works, but I could not find Tesselation Sides in it.
https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-c1-spiky-hair-for-genesis-3-and-8
I have used Light Mermaid Blue Intense preset from https://www.daz3d.com/revolution--omni-shader-presets-for-strand-based-hairs
So I noticed that the melanin slider could include an image. I tested if I could do darker markings this way.
Success, these spots are purely from the melanin slider at 1.00.
Great discovery!
This is CNB Brielle for G9F with dForce Valencya Hair by Propschick and DO. It has a lot of different areas for using shaders on it, so I played with the Omni Shaders SBH Deep Auburns and Fiery Reds, both versions. I tried to use the lighter versions on what I thought was the upper/front areas but it was hit and miss as it all looked dark on my screen. I didn't see the result until now with the render. I used the Beautiful Neutrals 08C.
Awesome! Yeah, I've been debating making fur with melanin maps rather than other maps. The project I'm almost done with now, maybe not, but in future...
I think the best use of it would be like your custom dual-lobe shader did it. Used for markings that NEED to be black/black-reddish. Or for stuff like ticking. While the main colour maps handle the non-black colour.
I need to test if I could turn a gray wolf black with it, but if I can, it could truly offer more options for making belivable markings.
I've tried some experimentation with creating Strand Based Hair for my centaurs to see if I could use the Omni shader on it, but while visually it has promise, unfortunately I've hit enough problems I don't think I can use it going forwards.
The hair's short enough that I could manage without the lack of simulation, but the non-dynamic SBH is completely missing the capacity to control the hair generation with shader maps, which is a problem when I need to be able to fit clothing.
The basic SBH lacking both dynamics and map control seriously limits what end users can use it for; no long hair, and no full body hair if you want to have any clothes involved.
It does dampen my enthusiasm for this new tech, because while it's presented as a leap forwards, a lot of my characters simply can't be updated because there's no suitable hair that matches their existing looks, and even with my pretty decent asset creation skills, I don't have the tools to fix that myself.
so it is again another DAZ advancement for PA locked products
something else I will skip
since I don't usually simulate fur anyway it's actually something I do use the Strandbased editor for and may have eventually used this with to improve the results
(and has never stopped me buying superior DAZ PA furred entities by PAs like Oso3D just like I buy premade clothes and characters, otherwise I would be using Blender and making everything myself by scratch like all the other 3D masochists such as FENNAH)
QQ for Chevybabe25 - this will work with your Fringe Benefits hair, won't it?
It's only my favorite hair in my entire library. :)
oooh that's a detailed breakdown thanks! I don't have any of those morphs but I have P3D Mia and MB Herlinda on my wishlist for whenever stop being broke.
@chevybabe25 I installed the latest color preset DIM update today and the Snow White hair base color still has this missing file error: /data/Daz 3D/Built-in Content/OmniHair Root-Tip Blend/OmniHair Root-Tip Blend.dsf. The data file path is still wrong.
@Chronopunk - yes. it will work on any of my older strand hairs including that one. However, you will need to select the hair in the scene, it is parented to the cap, and change the line tesselation settings to 0 for both viewport and render. You can find these options under the parameters tab.
Barbult Im on it. It will be fixed ASAP and this time it will be right.
@chevybabe25, I PM'ed you.
I am putting in for an update. The White preset that has caused grief has been fixed and tested. There will also be some standard property presets (thanks to NewGuy) for setting line tesselation and Previewing the PR Hairs on the older hairs. This one will take a little longer to get out, because it has new features, but at least you know it is on the way!
Thank you for an update, Chevybabe25.
Do you think one can get patterns on the hair by inserting some map into Melanin custom Preset?
By the way this hair https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-desert-queen-hair-for-genesis-3-and-8-females
looks awesome with https://www.daz3d.com/revolution--omni-shader-presets-for-strand-based-hairs
My favorite hair, so far...
I made a list of strand based hair for somebody a while ago, they are only ones I personally have and are only for G3/G8, but maybe somebody will find it handy
(I did`nt get around to doing G9 ones, I lost the will to live after doing this lot, hahaha)

ACES. Thank you. :)
The hair https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-desert-queen-hair-for-genesis-3-and-8-females
is also very well made for dForce simulation. It simulates quickly and without any problems.
No fancy scene, just a screenshot of my viewport. But Alessando's lion that use a lot for my promos ( https://www.daz3d.com/felidae-by-am--lion--dforce-addon ) looks great with the new shader, and the viewport is just so much snappier even with all that hair. The lion used to kill my machine, and now it just works.
I am trying to understand how textures works in the omnihair shader.
I took a hair and applied the shader, set melanin values to a lower values, and root and tip to 2 grey values, so the result was a light blond hair (picture 1).
I then created a (kind of) rainbow texture - two actually, one horizontal and one vertical.
I then tried to apply these textures to root and tip, but I was somewhat surprised of the results. Applying it either at root or tip gave a rather suttle effect, but applying it to both gave much more effect.
Is there any guides to how to make/apply textures?
My assumption is that the strands are aligned vertical on the texture - but it is more or less a guess. I didn't see any clear evidence based on my renders. Or it might depend on the individual hair.
Why the texture has to be applied to both root and tip to create a significant effect is unclear to me.
The attached images are:
1 Base hair, without textures.
2 Texture in root
3 Texture in tip
4 Texture in both.

Another one .. This is Fiery Red on RedzStudio's dForce Newton hair.
