This has bothered me for quite a bit, enough to resurrect this thread; What purpose does the normal map serve in Omnihair? Because I've made tests and the results have not exactly wowed me.
Is it just there in case someone wants to try and see what it does?
I am a bit curious. Are there DAZ PAs who model fibermesh hair in ZBrush? Is there any tutorial for modeling and texturing fibermesh hair for DS?
hi, recently ive been getting the /data/Daz 3D/Built-in Content/OmniSurface/OmniHair Root-Tip Blend.dsf file not found when loading some hairs. what iis omni hair and where do i buy it? or is it included in the latest daz release? cuz i havent updated in a while
I recently learnt about convert tubes to lines and have been using it on Carrara hair imports
the resulting shader has root and tip thickness and UV width like SBH
So since others have tried LAMH with Omni Shader, I am wondering if it adds anything to line hair
( I honestly cannot tell)

Yes. You should update Daz Studio to the newest version and also install the "Default Resources".
alright thanks. i just wish there was a way to indicate the install manager WHERE i want my stuff stashed. i dont use the default location because everything that isnt g8, is stashed in an external hdd, and my g8 stuff is stashed on my secondary internal SSD, my C drive is used only to install the programs themselves.
You can create multiple library locations in Studio, but I get you know that already if you're installing to more than one location. Install Manager can see those library locations and install to them. I'm not in my computer at the moment so can't give you exact instructions, but look at the top right for a preferences or settings menu. In there is an option to choose which library location to install to.
I had Omnihair also randomly disappear from my library and couldn't get it back through DIM. I had to manually download default resources to get it back.
You can change the location it downloads and installs content though. Not by your self-imposed product categories of G8 vs non G8 though, which seem a bit arbitrary.
remannts of the time when g8f took 5 hours to load. putting my g8f stuff in my ssd improved load times a bit. and it just stuck. too lazy to merge them.
If I create a fiber mesh hair in zbrush, can I use Omni shader?
Just started seriously playing around with OmniHair, and there's one glaring omission that the hair shaders I use in other programs: melanin randomize. That's how you, for example, get salt-and-pepper hair, or even just more subtle variation.
You can plug a black and white noise map in and get a similar effect :)
DIM doesn't allow me to connect, I've always been a person of manual instalations.
I was happy with 4.20, now I downloaded brand new version, that *$%@# DIM aplication in order to get the 'default resources'... and can't do it.
Any way to do it manually from 'my account/product library'??
Thanks in advance
Yes!
Go into your product library here. Do a search for Daz Studio. Locate Daz Studio 4.x Pro. Click on that, and scroll down through the list of downloads available on that. Locate :Default Resources For Daz Studio 4.23.zip. Thats the one you need to install into the newest version of Daz Studio.
