    Tim82: your new version of the ship is better, I think. Funny how people did not notice the crew. I started thinking: "what are those red thingies" and went for a closer look to see that they must be crew.

    My other landscape (that had a parrallel light) is re-running now with a slightly changed texture of the terrain and another light.

    Experiment with the "TA Image Projecting Hyper Gel Light" by David Brinnen. After watching the three videos, I made a one page MEMO (including the video links, on my website under Documents > Memos > Lighting). The renders are noisy even if rendered with 256 rays per pixel, though it depends on the overall brightness of the gel. The gel used on the radial is shown in the picture on the wall. The Hot Dragon is noisier than the Cool Dragon. Noise can be annoying but can also add some charm. I find the noise in the Hot Dragon render is not offensive and in the Cool Dragon acceptable.

    Gorgeous, Horo...and as for 'noise', I think it is a super effect that sometimes emphasizes a render's theme or story.

    I like "noise" in film photography, though i'm not sure if "noise in renders" imitates it well - often it looks a bit too "digital", so i think people might try do the most clean render first, and then apply "noise" in post-processing. Different engines have "noise" looking differently? Like comparing iRay, Lux or Bryce grains etc.

    Horo, beautiful lighting! I like cold dragon more because it has more gradations of colour on it, but hot dragon looks very hot as well.

    Jay - thank you. Noise can be a desirable effect at rare occasions.

    akmerlow - thank you. When chemical film is used, the noise "dots" are round since the emulsion are droplets, not flat squares as in digital images. That makes a difference.

    Tim82, gorgeous places you do surprise

    First one reminds me of Winterhold College from Skyrim (popular fantasy rpg game), but your castle is on much higher rock and with much longer bridge.

    Double stacked terrain and the barn from c-ram. The volume clouds were pre-rendered on a sphere and a specular convolved HDRI additionally made of it that gives the sky colours. Rendered premium with soft shadows in half an hour.

    Horo: nice dragon renders. And lovely lonely shack.

    Tim: Great castle, easy to defend (but also easy to isolate, unless there is a hidden staircase to a hidden boat). Very nice forest house too; does need some caretaking. Both renders have wonderful skies.

    My re-run of the terrain with light is ready. However, I changed the parrallel light into a spotlight and used the natural shadow of the terrain to let is only light the top of the mountain on the right. I also modified the terrain, which helps to get rid of the somewhat flat light.

    Furthermore, I did two other abstracts, made from a modified earlier work with lots of bars in there, of which you see hardly anything now.

    Both are panoramic renders, but I modified some colours, position of th bars and light between the two renders. And, of course, the first one is square. The first one is called 'the owl' and the second one 'rain in the city'.

    Forgot to mention: the first one has two perfectly reflecting spheres in there.

    Hansmar - thank you. The landscape is much improved. The owl and the rain in the city are both excellent abstracts.

    Nice version of terrain scene. Abstracts - they are beautiful, first one is very puzzling structure that stimulates your mind to suggest definitions, while second captures mood perfectly!

    Horo:

    Stunning scenery! Perhaps might not be uber-realistic (maybe due to "recognizable bump" on forehead), but composition is gorgeous at it's scale with nice terrain and good aerial perspective. On emotion side, calm isolate place in the wild, and massive sky above reminds about eternity.

    Looks like a very peaceful place, Horo...and would love to walk amongst those mountains.

    Hansmar, the new terrain update with its soft shdows wonderfully now. Btw, your third image (abstract) is really super - kinda looks like some futuristic skyscraper from this angle (if you'd put in some kind of spaceship flying by, I'd be convinced wink.

    Tim, very nice, I went for a walk once here in a wood, and just like you've shown, there were these small doors attached to the base of trees. Of course, humans had put them there (or, did they?), and as coming from Ireland, they were meant to represent our infamous leprechaun homes. They were so cool that I took my nieces and nephews afterwards for a day out to see them. Some visitors had left, small one-cent euro coins outside the doorways that formed a small, winding path into the underbrush weeds etc.

    Horo, akmerlow, Jamahoney: Thanks very much. I really like this scene. This provides lots of options for variation with just some random changes. It has lots of bars, that are actually groups, because they are made of strings of metaballs. That is why they are also not straight, though the curvature in general is limited. I made some with different colours. For a new render, I select them all and do 'randomize' (3d, size and rotation). I added some spheres that I can move and give another (largely reflective) texture. Then I can modify the lighting (sun, clouds, etc.) and the settings of the camera. Endless possibilities with hardly any control over the effect and I actually like that fact.

    Almost forgot to mention the pyramid in there....

    Tim: very fairy render. Wonderful atmosphere and great modelling.

    Here my new abstract from my favourite scene. No title yet; can you think of one?

    Here is my attempt at pulling Daz Studio and Bryce together. I was really interested the DOF, but keept having trouble with Bryce refusing to save and render with the Genesis 8 Orc.I eventually gave up replaced him witht the Gen 8 troll and gave up on the angle that I really wanted which would have been overhead looking down throught the rafters with lots of DOF. I will eventually do that angle in Daz Studio. Any and all comments are welcome.
