Hmmm..... ok... got kitty back. Now I've got half the head with guide hairs but some of the whiskers got hairs. So I selected the Select from Surface box. Selected whickers. Unselected whiskers. Crash & burn. Reloaded DS. This time I accepted the whiskers. Reopened the Surface box and unselected whiskers. Crash & burn. I'll let you know if I find anything else interesting.
3rd or 4th time in a row. You'd think I'd learn... Here's the other interesting thing. I saved the project just before I tried again. And when i reloaded, it didn't reload what I had saved. Even manually, it didn't reload. (What I changed was the hair length and points.)
Next up: this time I tried to select the whiskers' guide hair with the lasso. Crash & burn.
I gave up and started over. First thing I decided was to hide the whiskers. It hid them but then I still had to remove all the selection from them. Seems kind of pointless to hide something that's still getting selected. At least if I can them, then maybe I can avoid them.
And once you grow guide hairs, how to you get back to Selection mode if you want to remove or add follicles?
You go back to Follicles mode clicking the large button there, so that you can edit them.
Any idea what's going on with the whiskers? Is there a way to exclude objects? Now I've got claws that I'm having to work around. I must admit, doing a whole animal is definately giving me a feel for the program.
Oh snap... crash & burn. This time, I drug the LAMH editor to my 2nd monitor and repositioned my cat in DS 4.9 so I could look at the bottom of his feet. I drug LAMH back to monitor 1, clicked on it and it was toast. Checked the DS log file and it's been spitting these lines out since 15:35 pm. I've been eating dinner and doing laundry since 6:30 and started work again.

I'll save the log file off so I have a fresh one when I start up again.
Never mind the sRGB message. That's DS. I haven't even reloaded my scene yet, much less LAMH.
Use the "Select follicles from surfaces" button (it looks like a Tetris piece)

When I reloaded from the preset, my shave group names didn't load in the drop down. The Material Setup did show the correct name and all the settings so I just had to re-assign them again.
Check the manual, page 12: http://www.furrythings.com/LAMH1.5/LAMH.manual.1.5.zip
It explains how to restrict hair to specific surface areas. Also, you might want to check LAMH tutorials available on the YT Channel listed in my signature.
Is everybody going to ignore the fact that every time I enable a surface group and then disable, it crashes DAZ Studio? Just wondering....
Last line in log file before I started DS up again:
FATAL: ASSERT failure in QVector<T>::remove: "index out of range", file C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4 SDK\include\QtCore/qvector.h, line 375
Another interesting tidbit: I decided to load the preset from the viewer in DS and it has all the shave groups named. When I load it from the Editor, it doesn't populate the Shavegroup drop-down with the shave group names, as I mentioned above.
Thanks for the updated manual.
Here's another issue. This preset that I loaded in DS? It has a plane in it that was in the scene yesterday. I've since deleted it from the DS scene but it's still showing in the preset in the LAMH editor. How do I get rid of it?
I'm rapidly losing patience. It just crashed again.
This is a known bug that was recently discovered. A fix is on its way to DAZ.
Kendall
Unless you selected facets on the plane, it should not be there since DS controls what is in the scene. If, however, you created facets on it and/or guides you will need to remove it from the scene list. There should be a unique LAMH group for every object that has had guides exported.

Oh!. Excuse me while I crawl under my desk and hide my face.
You can ignore all those lines from the log file entries I've been posting. Those are from the DAZ Studio log file. I just found the one for LAMH. And never mind about the plane. I just loaded a different animal and the plane looks like it's part of LAMH. Think I'll go back under the desk now....
Peeks back out... but it is consistently and reliably crashing every time I enable and disable a Surface. Loaded ToonKitty in DS, load LAMH editor, selected kitty, clicked Select from Surface, clicked Cornea, waited for eyeball to turn red, clicked X in upper right corner of the Select Surface box since there's no OK/Cancel buttons. Clicked Select from Surface again, unchecked Cornea and it crashes. I'll send y'all my log file.
The crash on disabling a surface was recently reported and a fix has been made. An update will be released shortly.
There is a ground plane in the LAMH UI. It was added at the request of some advanced users who wanted to know where the "ground" in DS was in reference to the figure. This is really just the 0 plane that DS presents and does not notate any ground plane that may be loaded otherwise. It can be turned on/off by clicking on the blue gear in the lower right corner of the LAMH UI and using the checkbox there.

I've been trying to figure out and play with density maps and brushes and I have a some questions:
When making my own brushes, what size should the image be? what format .jpg or .png? or does it matter? Do you have any examples of brushes somewhere?
Finnally got LAMH to work with the Big Cat fur. This is my first attempt at LAMH and it's a little buggy but I really love it. Here is my first render. Not the greatest but it looks like a tiger with fur now.
Looks great!
Okay, I need a correct registration number. The one listed in my Serial Numbers is too long. What's up?
I am not sure, please email me your registration data to info@alessandromastronardi.com, I'll take a look at it.
Does anybody have a LAMH for Noggins Bull?
I'm willing to pay MONEY for this preset!
So I'm having an issue. DIM is giving me this message
"Could not complete download, file size does not match; 6842652 != 6846361."
OK, odd. So I figured I could knock out a manual install. I download the win64 bit version. Run it as administrator. It installs. It creates an uninstall.
Alright. Should be good to go. Nothing. Nothing in the create tab. Nothing in the windows tab. I even checked the plugins folder. There isn't a thing in the folder related to LAMH.
I'm using daz4.9 Pro on a windows 10 64bit OS.
Edit: Disregard. It seemed to be a DIM issue. It works now.
I've been trying to get the LAMH Free Player to work with the Royal Eastern Dragon but it crashes DS 4.8.
Does the LAMH full version work with DS 4.8 or is only DS 4.9 supported?
Hello, it's always adviced to use latest DS version, but with 4.8 should work reasonably well anyway. Which operation causes the crash exactly?
So the steps I'm taking are:
1) I open the LAMH panel, 2) I load the dragon in daz, 3) I load the hair preset in daz.
When I do this, the hair looks like a tentacle monster in the viewport (see attached), but the hair preset name then shows up in the preset name field of the LAMH panel, so then I click on Attach LAMH preset and the whole thing crashes.
The only thing I've tried LAMH with is the Royal Eastern Dragon, so maybe the problem is the dragon.
I think I figured out what was going wrong. I was able to export to obj this time and then reimported and it seems to be working now. I wish there was a way to keep the hair parented in place, but with the exception of the hair parented to the head, I need to redo the process anytime the pose changes.
Unfortunately yes, the OBJ generation needs to be redone every time. This until nvidia finally provide us a iray hair primitive.
For the curious, latest NVIDIA update seems to have opened up access to the Photoshop oil painting filter. Convoluted statement, but it's a really flippin awesome filter.
Why am I bringing that up here? Because the oil painting filter follows contours and gradients really nicely... and makes fur look AMAZING.
Dawwww Kitty got painted. Lovely render and effect! :)
Lovely kitty. :)
