Maybe, but not yet I'd imagine.

Whatever, both platforms are welcome here. I'd sooner have Bryce 8 right now.

Here's my contribution to the NOT!! section lol.

Posted an unfinished version elsewhere and here's the finished one. I didn't do to much to it, added a few details fixed a couple things yadda yadda.

I am happy i finally got my graphics tablet working in windows 8 . it's a cheap one but it's lasted me 4 or 5 years now but getting drivers to work now is a pain. and they don't have any new ones lol.

Here is one I did with the car paint and volume options in Luxus.
Sometimes I like to use SSS on things one normally wouldn’t .

(Please, check the original size if you have the chance, I like how the detail turned out.) :-P

    Great render,

Yeah, Windows 8 drivers do seem to be hard to come by. I'm still using Windows 7 drivers for my sound and graphics cards.

Poser 10 is shaping up to be a very powerful tool. I'm very interested to see how well the soft body physics works for animations, and the real-time cloth room tweaking will be a gift from the heavens. I might not use Poser as much as I once did, but this has me quite excited about the prospects. In the meantime I'll wait carry on with my pet project of trying to implement Bullet into Daz Studio. Easier said than done with the sparse documentation for Studio.

Luxrender strikes again. This is one of those images which was stronger in concept than it was in practice, but I think it still came out relatively well. The idea was to show stories literally coming to life, as they sometimes seem to do when you lose yourself in a good read. You can thank the recent bookshelf freebie for the inspiration for this. In case anyone is wondering what's with all the fairies lately, I was asked by an adorable seven year old to do more of them after she saw my 'finding fairies' image on DeviantArt. How could I possibly say no?

The books on the shelves are actual real-world book titles. I created textures for them, but instead of applying the texture directly, I put an alpha map onto a geometry shell over the book. This allowed me to use Luxrender to turn the detail and titles into a gold colour while retaining the matte of the book itself. I could have done the same with a single mix material, but this is also compatible with 3DL so I could compare the two renders. Among them is one of my favourite trilogies.

The final render was done using Lux with a chandelier providing the light. The bulbs were converted to light sources.

That is really impressive, Hellboy. How did you use volume options in that render? Could you please elaborate more about it.

    That's brilliant,

It has real storybook feel to it. Which is probably what you were going for!

..dont' ya love it? Mine is the same. 5 fans + the CPU cooler and absolutely silent.

...was that last one on the new system? That looks really good.

HeraldOfFire, that is really nice. Love using mesh lights now that I know how to create them.

    Oh BTW my latest,

Took Teen Julie, a couple of morphing merchant resources, and turned her into a ten year old. Genesis makes creating children of almost any age way to easy that it feels almost like cheating.

Yes the older one is Leela and yes the resemblance between the two is on purpose.

Cool Kyoto! I may be able to stay with 8 will see how it plays out. there is an issue that Reality sometimes shuts down several times when starting it up, but it does come up. I thought it would not work. The shell comes installed in 8 sweet! Im digging the new rig! Rendering all day and night. Nothing but cool air blowing out the back! Won't melt this puppy down. I will be able to work off both machines so I can still fart around with the notebook at work start the lux scenes and resume them on the beast!

I thought I'd share this render here, she is a combination of G4, V5, and a number of individual morphs. I wanted to see how well Lux would render a "sheer" fabric, or maybe I should say how well I could set up a mat with Luxus to look like sheer fabric in Lux. I couldn't post the full image here because of the transparency of the dress. If your interested in seeing the full image, you can see it in my Rendo gallery (link below) by clicking on the image titled "Murielle" (warning nudity):
    http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?username=DustRider

This was my second try with Luxus (first one definitely wasn't worth sharing), and my first test with this skin mat which needs additional work.

Thanks man 32G with a fire pro AMD 2G DDR5 win 8 is tricky with Reality..... Here is a lux render I started on my old i7 18 month notebook and resumed it on the new rig (Just got it last night) warning nudity http://fav.me/d64xr61

Now that I realize I am sticking with this hobby I decided to get serious gear that supports it..

Like you "used" to do, I do most of my rendering on a laptop . I don't make any money at this, so I can really only justify one good system, and the laptop is a lot more convenient. I've had a Reality3/Lux render baking for almost 68 hours now - just waiting the last few bunches of light/pink spots to go away. I got this laptop last Dec., and it has a "turbo boost" fan that I can turn on high while it renders. Helps keep it much cooler!

I'm sure you'll enjoy your new rig, and boost your production. Happy rendering!!!

Who says anything about not using the laptop LOL as long as I buy the extended coverage from HP I can melt it down as much as I want LOL! Having said that with the rig I will have less problems for sure. I am managing to work with Reality a bit better. 8 Does seem to flow a little better with less lagging but working in DS seems to run more or less the same.

...that is one nice looking rig there.

I would actually consider rolling back to Win7Pro as 8 is geared more towards tablets and dumb...er, I mean.... smart phones than workstations. The UI is a garish mess compared to 7 and previous versions of Windows. It basically followed the pattern of one good OS release followed by one bad OS releases (remember XP followed by the debacle that was Vista?).

Considering that for one, you do commission work and two, you had no issue with Reality 2.5 working correctly under 7, rolling back would be the better decision rather than struggling with something that is ill suited for your purposes and obviously has conflicts with one of your primary production tools.

Would that I could, I'd actually be running XP 64 Pro as it is so much simpler to set up than even Win7 (still wrestling with configuration issues and locked folders even though I have Admin status). Unfortunately it costs between three to four times as much as 8 Pro 64 these days (for a "legitimate" copy with the product key) as it is now "legacy" software.

...more blasted connectivity ills (giving me a "Server Not Found" error even though I am connected). Looks like I won't be posting any new pics tonight.

With the shell its like using 7 not using the metro interface I got to call them tomorrow cause my front usb 3 ports dont work so I will see if I can swap op system since I just got it. Worse thing is they were going to put 7 on it but this guy @ work who does PC stuff really pushed that I go for 8...

Edit not sure what I am doing but I got it going pretty good now

Cool renders Kyoto, Bob and Dustrider.

Bob, if I were you I'd go to the Reality forums and explain the issues you've been having. Do you have the latest version of Luxrender installed? Luxus requires that you do and I have version 1.2.1 installed, it's the 64bit version with OpenCL..

    Keep 'em coming folks!

Yes I have all of that Paolo just blames M$. I actually am finding ways to open it. Selecting an object in the scene seems to work. Its gotten a lot better. I am cranking 4 renders looks like times will be greatly improved! I am prolly gonna stay with 8 unless it gets reallly bad
