do yoo write under your real name? or one of those plumes?
My real name, since I'm not doing anything my friends and co-workers would disapprove of (yet). I briefly considered writing romance, but I don't have the enthusiasm for it that's needed. My main genres are fantasy and horror so far, with some mystery thrown in and a touch of paranormal.
I've done some comedy in the distant past, but I find I can only do it when the mood hits me, which is pretty rare. :-S
If I ever did romance, or erotic horror, it'd be under a nom-de-plume as I'm certain I'd horrify every single person that knew me! :ahhh:
Horror is tough, cuz of trying to build suspense.
Pet Cemetery had me closing my window blinds, I couldn't finish it.
scary book that stands out in my memory is Bethany's Sin. cower
Different kinds of suspense from romance :) iz all about the anticipation and climax.
Romantic horror ?
suburbs are pretty scary lol
Real Deal is trademarked by RDNA, and their annual $1.99 Real Deal sale is still going on...they extended it. It wasn't due to end until tomorrow anyway, but now it's extended.

help is on the way
Heh heh! I would add a LOL smiley, but the smileys appear to be non-functional. (frowney face)
They will roll further downhill.
What a pain in the tail! I hate LAN printers, our IT department hates LAN printers, it's pretty universal.
Have fun on your staycation! :)
ps. RedRoom is a GREAT writers site for blogging, shameless self-promotion, and to see what other writers are doing Out There. A free membership gets you a fair amount of power, the paid one is expensive but if you have books to sell, is well worth it.
I doubt I'll become a famous author, but you never know! :)
Hey, we've all heard of you. It's a start.
...I feel the same way about David5. I like David a lot more as his proportions are better.
In the meantime, created this fellow for one of my scenes using Genesis/GenX/David3 (this was the character I spent most of yesterday evening into the early morning hours rebuilding).
Hey, that looks really nice! Cant wait to play! :)

Yeah, building tension is a tough thing to do.. especially in a short story where you often have to focus on one plot point with few, if any, sub-plots. Novella length is a bit easier, so are serial stories as you ca end on a cliffhanger each "episode".
Writing of any kind is not easy.

Heh, ok, I'll expect their lawyer to call mine! (chortle)

I hear with about 10 years of therapy, you can mostly forget about me and only have occasional screaming fits and nightmares! Hee, hee, HEE!

i like to start with a philosophy and a vignette.
my personal favorite philosophy - 'the point of the journey is not to arrive '.
and never start at the beginning.
write a vignette. then a second semi related vignette. connect them with 2 -3 chapters in between.
at that point, should be able to see where the story is going and where it's been, if not, start over.
never give full disclosure on a character, give them room to grow. even the bad guys.
sometimes it's better to change the scene details to fit the render, than find the content to fit the scene.
...yup, have that and the Subsurface Toolbox in the cart already.
i'm caving. :) if the tangiens is still in fg when i get home, it'll be an omen i was meant to buy it. lol can't ignore fg omens
I almost always start with what's called an "elevator pitch" - describe the concept quickly enough to be told in an elevator between floors, like "A man is going slowly insane - or is the world changing and only he sees it?"
Write an outline of his journey, then fill it in.
Story done, but the process I'm struggling with is how to turn this nice, short story thing into a bunch of panels for a comic?
I need to study and practice. A Web comic is perfect for Argentum Noctis, and The Vicky Chronicles, both of which I want to do.
Neither will make me a famous author, or even make me plugged nickel, but that's why I have a day gig! :)
Only 35 minutes and I can go home, wheeeeee! Gonna get some sausage, some beer, and sit around in chat, journaling in the background. :)
...my weakness is Political Thrillers. Similar to mysteries, but with more "wheels within wheels".
First LuxRay, then Octane... Would be rather neat if someone tried their hand at an Indigo Exporter.
Is pretty popular with Sketchup users and is faster than LuxRay (Trade-off is it's not as good at complex water caustics)
...looks like it's my turn for that as well today
Cloudflare? Magento? Who knows anymore? 378 days and this site just keeps limping along worse than I do on a damp cold day.
Yeah, this is pathetic - smileyless (-_-)...
... noticed the main store is starting to drop it's cookies too... I was searching through all the Lisa's Botanicals to find which ones I didn't have... opened up 25 pages (middle-click on the product), and about half of them I wasn't logged in, the other half I was o.0.
New Blender "Freestyle" render postprocessor is good fun, for a certain look (^_^)d.
Meanwhile, I'm getting baked by ambient heat, and it is 1 am. Hrrrgh! How annoying.
Climb into the fridge? Or is SO in the way? (-.^)
Those take some work, especially weaving in subplots. Too much trouble for meeeeeeeeeeeee!
ROFL hee hee hee!
Hot here outside, coolish inside, and I have cold beer! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Shopping was a bother but I'm loaded up on foodies for the weekend.
It was pretty nice here today. Sunny and 78F

...you should have been in my RPG group when I was running my Rhapsody in Shadow campaign (which spawned the Leela story). There were so many wheels turning that the players' heads were spinning.
Was real fun to manage in the days before I got my first notebook pooter.
I have a file drawer three quarters full with notebooks (of the spiral bound variety), folders with sketches of locations & characters the players would meet as well as floor-plans and maps (used a Michelin map of Europe, as well as city maps of London, Vienna, Zagreb and Beograd - the last being pretty hard to find and the one i have is all in Cyrillic - to plot their trails).
The cool thing about the game system I used (FASA'a Shadowrun) was that many of their "canned" missions used what is known as the "Decision Tree" format which promoted subplots rather than the railroading "dungeon crawl" type most other systems employed. If the team played heir cards right, they could accomplish the mission without going though every segment.though they might miss critical information or contacts that could make some scenes easier to handle.
For example, they could succeed in extracting the heiress who was kidnapped and get the plans for a new prototype drone, but fail in getting "paydata" that listed names of Lonestar officers "on the take" (which their "Johnson" would have rewarded them extra for) because they bypassed the HR datastore in the corp's matrix in their haste. In what is called the "picking up the pieces" segment, Lonestar (a commercial police service similar to OCP in Robocop) would later do a round up of the "usual suspects" which could include some of the characters' contacts (and in this game, contacts are better than gold).
Even my SF RPG campaign that i ran for almost three years back in the 80s was pretty much a political thriller set in the future. The notes from that fill another file drawer plus a small milk crate.
Yeah I totally geek on that kind of stuff.
"...remember DImitri, miles to go before I sleep"
Naaa, he's sleeping quite contently in bed.
Meanwhile, I dug out one of the water bottles I prepared last evening from the freezer, and I'm enjoying cold fluids.
(Tip: take a freezer-durable water bottle. Fill about halfway. Turn it on the side before putting it into the freezer. That way, after you fill it, the icy side has muuuuuch more surface area to water, and your water is colder much faster.)

Great hint. Hot here too. Have to try that. Should work well with juice, lemonade, tea and other soft drinks as well.
P.S. I don't like having to live emoticonless. (grumpy face)
I think I've downed about a liter and half of ice water by now. Blagh.
...cloudy threatening rain (again) and 20° colder here.
...and my bandwidth just went south as someone here at the hotspot must be streaming videos. DL time for a 100M file shot up to over an hour (usually one that size takes between 10 -12 minutes).
iz sticky heat. it's SNOW CONE weather!! :) tee hee and frosty paws for my buppycakes. i think he gets embarrassed in front of other dogs when i call him buppycakes.

...it's not just the size of the Tangien installers, DLd a 715K (yes Kilobite) freebie just beforehand and it took nearly eight minutes. Usually I click on one of these and almost instantly get the 'Download Complete" message (even when I'm at home).

It is not that much, I run to the baffroom to pee, plus I'm eating salty stuff in form of bacon crackers. So there! Fully aware of the unholy terrors dihydrogen monoxide can unloose upon human body!
