... Yeah, it really does. I didn't think that was going to happen all that soon -- especially since they have actually been doing what they said and making major changes to Studio itself with every release -- but this is insane otherwise. (It's insane anyway, but at least clearing the decks to start the year with something new makes sense. Also a good way to drive sales into the ground if most of the users start thinking that way; who wants to buy soon-to-be obsolete tech at nearly full prices if it looks like it's going to get replaced by something newer in a month or so?)
I think it'll be easier to tell by the next release. Robyn feels like a weird outlier; she dropped on a holiday week, her bundle wasn't themed after anything specific, she had no addon characters beyond what was in the bundle. It's possible that this is less of a trend and more "pro bundle releases are a great sales driver, let's try to arrange one the same week as Black Friday" and now we're back to relative normalcy. Darcy definitely seems like more of a normal, full-support core character.
Edit: As a few people pointed out at the time, Robyn's release was also a great deal for new users, and her bundle would definitely have been more attractive to someone who didn't have a lot of content in their library yet. I wonder if Daz did a Black Friday advertising push around her (existing users wouldn't necessarily have seen it).
I've been thinking that for the last couple of weeks. Genesis 9 (Hopefully not Genesis 3 & 3/4 ) is supposedly coming in 2020, and this recent clearing of Daz cupboards indicates to me that the new generation will be early rather than late.
I'm thinking along the same lines as @plasma_ring. I suspect Daz wanted to do something special for Thanksgiving and the Black Friday weekend. Robyn 8 was only featured for those four days, after all.
I'll be really surprised if there's another bas figure release next week.
To be fair, Daz_Steve only said G9 wasn't going to be released in 2019. Nothing was said either way about 2020. We are only assuming, (though it does seem like a safe assumption.)
I suspect Daz is concentrating on changes to Daz Studio right now, and that some of those changes will support further development of the Genesis line. If that's the case, we won't see a G9 until both DS and the figure can support changes not yet admitted to by Daz.
All very true, L"Adair, and what I'm doing is speculating on the basis of what I've been seeing in the store
Current Version of QT is 5.13.
I've got to say, when the heck are we getting a guy? Three female characters in a row. I like girls, but I do romance covers. Most of my stuff is either het or male/male. I need guy stuff. Though I did like Sebastian quite a bit.
If you look at the change log you will see that a lot of work has been doen on refactoring elemnts of the application to remove older Qt dependencies.
Gotta agree with this one. We've seen pretty awesome deals last couple of weeks, and PC+ sale was really great too, so I'm also assuming that G9 is coming soon. I doubt they'd make that kind of clearance sales if next figure is still years away. That being said, I'm anxious to see what Daz made up this time, and I really hope there's some nice improvements when G9 is released.
I don't know. Unless Genesis 9 has something amazing I still don't think it's a good idea to release it even if the mindset is pure cash grab. Every generation switch it seems there is always the group of people that is comfortable using the old one and doesn't want to upgrade because has already invested in a large library for that figure. Which is understandable. But I feel it was probably more noticeable with the switch to Gen8 considering it's not that much different. So, I'd imagine if you do that again, you'd be relying a lot on: a) new user base, b) hardcore user base. And I'm not sure if that's enough. While, if you just keep launching Gen8 stuff, you can still sell them with "current generation prices" and will still be bought by: a) new user base, b) hardcore user base, c) average gen8 user base.
At least I would be a lot more wary of buying a Gen9 figure without been entirely sure it's a big upgrade and won't have the same "utilities" as Gen8 for a while, instead of just buying another Gen8. Yes, even if it's another white girl. As long as I like it, or if I think it's decent and the things I can get with the deal interest me.
Also, last thought, just adding features to Daz that can still be used with current figures will attract more people that will come to find a huuuge library of stuff to buy. While if you do that and release a new gen, I'd imagine a lot will just stick to the new one which won't have as much or need more work than a new user is willing to do to make the "old stuff" work with the new one.
Having said that... if the new Genesis is indeed a huge improvement, I'd be very excited to get on board, the thing is, I just can't imagine what it could be.
Just my two cents
Also, didn't they say earlier this year that they weren't even working on Gen 9 but focussed on improving things under the hood? I mean, face it, instead of Gen 9, we got dForce. I'd rather have stuff that improves our work than a slight upgrade of Gen 8.
It's going to be called Genesis 20 Female, to be released on new years day as part of a 2020 new years bundle I bet :P
Also, we just got IK chains and an improved timeline with 4.12. I wouldn't be surprised if soft body physics were in the works (crosses fingers). So yeah, if I had to bet, I'd say the Gen8 family is just going to keep growing for a while longer than most expect.
I won't be investing in G9, as I've spent literally thousands of dollars on G3/8. However, there are new artists learning about Studio and Daz3D every day, and THEY will be the main target for future generations, don't you think? Just normal progress in action.
#60 Rynne 8 !
Now 3 females are missing for a 2:1 ratio.
Just a PA character under Daz Originals label.
As if Crocodile Liu's Yuzuru 8 and Throne's Rynne 8 try to make us wait until the next Daz core figure is released.
All Daz originals except base figures are created by PAs...
Customers drive the market, sigh.
Okay !
Now let's see if a new core figure will be released the next week.
baby Jesus 8
DAZ rule ... no males in your art.
There are so many male figures in my library (more than 500 figures from Michael 3 to Genesis 8), it doesn't matter if Daz will release more males or not.
Tristian 8 will be available on Christmas morning

Yep, I've got a purple banner with links that don't work yet.
