Good land! Three male releases in the last four! Will wonders ne'er cease! There's a purple and page banner for Jonathan 8 and his sale, but no real products yet. Jonathan himself looks very ... Edwardian. So to speak.
EDIT: Actually, his pro bundle is live.
Jonathan looks good, but his deal is the worst I've seen in a long time, even with the purple banner.
Edit: okay, it looks like it improves now that some other reduction has kicked in... don't know what, since the Madness page is still yesterday's for me.
The offer looks good now, with everything kicked in. And considering that the HD add-on is a bonus item and we get it so cheap is also great.
The fact that he is the only key item is another incentive although it now may not sit well with some people but it fits for me as I would have bought him anyway.
Instant buy for me. When the bundle price is less than the a la cart cost of the items I actually want, It's a no brainer for me. And with both hair and a character from RedzStudio, I couldn't resist!
Yea, the hairs looks great. I actually like everything in the bundle for the first time ever I think I might have a use for everything except the wasp suit and battle pilot. But those also looks great.
I just can't decide on the add-ons yet.
I kind of want the russian apartment but I am waiting for someone to get it and post some normal renders to see if I get it or something else.
Next up: Dasan 8.
Interesting. Dasan himself is on the edge of stylized, and the characters based on him just sprint right past that edge.
That also makes four male releases in the last six; I'm guessing we're back to paired releases per month, more or less.
I thought Dasan looks uber-realistic (which of course is usually on the brink of caricature because people look funny). I was thinking the same thing as you were about paired releases, which means (I hope) that we're about to get an older Native American woman. I can't think of anyone as a model except Tantoo Cardinal:

It's now official, Genesis 8 has twice as many female and male figures as Genesis 3.
Great G8 characters, but I'd like to go on with G9 now.
You want a new generation just because you are bored with the current one?

What exactly do you imagine a G9 would bring new right now to be worth the extra hassle?
Well, it's nice to see the F to M ratio for Genesis 8 has fallen significantly below the 2/1 or higher ratio that we've seen so often. Sure, Genesis 3 also fell below 2/1, but with a significantly smaller pool of 'pro' figures. Of course, the F to M ratio is much higher for other G3 characters, which is also a consideration.
Genesis 8 seems to have been a bit kinder to the male gene pool, but I haven't checked the numbers recently. The larger gene pool of 'pro' G8 figures does help the diversity a bit.
Technically, the Genesis era had better balance with F to M, but since Genesis is 'unisex' to a degree, with both sexes sharing the same base figure, well it makes it a lot easier to create versions of the opposite sex on the fly, so the ratio is a bit more blurred there... Sure there are converters for Genesis 8, but it's just not the same!
Thank you for that table @Noah LGP ! It's so interesting to look at and gives you a far greater understanding of how the releases seem to work... and how hard the modellers/PAs at Daz work!! Since 2017 they've been putting out 2-3 new models with bundles every month... that's a heavy production line, if you think about it.
I'm interested to see the female counterpart for Valentino... we might expect she will also be a Spanish/Italian pirate to "match" him... but the pirate theme actually leaves the door tantilisingly open... she could be Caribbean/West Indian, etc. I'm excited to find out :)
What the point of doing so many core characters? I remember G1/G2 and even G3 giving enough core to build around amazing things. I'd prefer super thematic bundles and core to build around: like G3 markus or Gxx "the brute"...(and of course all the classic racial ones + young/old)
The point of the core characters is to sell bundles.
A perhaps unintended benefit of bundles (and therefore, of new core characters) is the creation of content we might not have seen otherwise, like the last two bundles being cheesy retro sci-fi themed, or the nautical theme of Valentino. Stuff like that trickles into the store, but a new bundle can mean an explosion of content that certain customers are starving for.
The point of Core Figures for me is high quality skins (usually) and very well-defined morphs. I hope they keep going with this male/female release cycle because I can always use more high quality males.

Then let them create themed bundles. For example if they'd bundled a nice new sailing ship with seafaring outfits instead of a base character, I don't think you'd have heard a lot of complaints.
I'd happily "let" them do that. Would they have done that, though?
there's plenty of variety but i'd prefer quality over quantity. if they release figures with 8k textures then I'll actually consider buying a core figure
Ain't nothing new technologically worthwhile coming out with G9 if it comes this June so it'll be a continuation of Genesis 3 really. I think maybe the Filament renderer is going to open up DAZ Studio to some OSS physics library maybe and then maybe we'll get Genesis 9?

Who's next ? A new Genesis 8 Male or Victoria 9 ?
I am expecting a male counterpart to Aubrey next, since we had the pirate Valentino -> Dr Who style Aubrey -> pirate Sahira, so Dr Who style male character would complete that pattern of M&F themed characters.
The free Victoria offers during MM and the "get all Victorias" banner a couple of weeks ago could be seen as a sign that Victoria 9 might launch on her birthday in June... but I'd have thought they might have dropped some heavier hints before now if that was going to be the case ?? To get people excited ?? Personally, I'm not looking for G9 at the moment unless it would be totally compatible with G8 content because I've output so much money but then, if it was compatible, maybe it wouldn't be innovative in the ways necessary to justify a whole new generation... so that's a conundrum for me! Perhaps not for others though

There were no hints before the release of previous generations, I don't see why it would be different this time.
If they expect that a new generation is coming quite a few people will stop buying content for current generation, which is not something that Daz wants. That's most probably part of the reason Daz announced last year that G9 would not be released in 2020 despite usually making no announcements about future releases: as G3 and G8 were released 2 years after the previous generation some people were expecting G9 to be released last June and started saying they were holding off purchases til it was released.

Me, I am hoping that (at least for now) there is no G9 release - I have not heard or seen a whisper of anything that would be an 'advancement' or a plus over the existing G8.
I would FAR rather them work on expanding the functionality and tech of the DAZ engine itself! Better memory and drive utilization; more physics advancements; optimization of simulations; adding a weight/density/limits maping for dForce for more realistic fabric and hair simulations... heck, dForce/collision simulation for figures would be incredibly useful and welcomed advances (and any figure update could easily be handled with an expansion for those who want that functionality rather than a new version and all the hassle that involves)!
