R.E Daz tweaks.  Better Multi-core utilization would be nice, particularly in the age of Threadripper...  Probably a discussion for another thread though.

I too wonder if the latest 'wave' of back to back 'Pro' characters is a 'wrap up the cue' effort in anticipation of a new generation.  Personally, I don't see us needing a new generation, unless it does something completely mind blowing that they aren't telling us about.

While I'm sure Victoria's birthday will get a bash of some sort, again, no doubt Michael's birthday will be forgotten, again... Michael 8 launched in August, as for the original Michael's birthday... I seem to remember two possibilities in my research.

More Genesis 8 please; G8F takes only 15-30 minutes to load (sometimes more). Let's double it. I really wouldn't mind at least three more realistic males. Really.

    Who's next ? A new Genesis 8 Male or Victoria 9 ?

69 is "AuBrey", (though they soo should do Audrey in a Twin Peaks themed bundle).

I would FAR rather them work on expanding the functionality and tech of the DAZ engine itself!  Better memory and drive utilization; more physics advancements; optimization of simulations; adding a weight/density/limits maping for dForce for more realistic fabric and hair simulations... heck, dForce/collision simulation for figures would be incredibly useful and welcomed advances (and any figure update could easily be handled with an expansion for those who want that functionality rather than a new version and all the hassle that involves)!

Soft body physics stuff would be soo appreciated. I mean you can have special morphs for every outfit, but that's a bit clumsy, and doesn't help with wobbly bits.

Yeah, too many morphs to load, it's same for me and I don't count the previous generations convert to Genesis 8.

Do you use an older system, because that doesn't sound right... a G8F never takes more than 30 seconds to load here, and I have a lot of morphs installed.

Define "a lot". That can be very different for different people. And different morph packs are heavier than others. I noticed the biggest slowdown after I installed morph packs such as auto-shape enhancer and other such bend morphs. Those seem to be extra heavy. I need to go through and uninstall the ones I find that I never use.

G8F takes about 40sec to load for me now. However, what is bad is my ActivePose functionality...I seem to have lost the ability to quickly grab and pose because things have bogged down so much. And if I pose a G8F and then hit "zero pose", I might as well go get a coffee.

    My System specs:
    RYZEN 7 1800x
    32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 RAM
    GTX 1080TI FTW3
Daz and all installed file content share their own dedicated 2TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD
*in short, my system shouldn't be an issue*

  • I have a Ryzen 8 2700x 32 GB 3200 RAM And a gd Titan. And G8F takes 4 minutes and 45 seconds to load. Granted, I do have 338 characters for her (including all the iconics), and that's not counting the non-character morph packs.

Well, my laptop was state-of-the-art five years ago. But I tested, and G8F Base loads in just under 10 minutes on an empty scene. I just checked the store's Morphs and Tattoos category, and I own 239 out of 470 of those, and my Genesis 8 Female People category count is 692, but that's not counting Renderosity, which may add another 100 or so. But it IS time for a hardware upgrade.

How is your primary disk (where the os works on) , does it have enough space left?

However those are a lot of characters, but as I understand it, daz should load nothing on the base character if you load it in. So that shouldn't be an issue. Then again perhaps its some kind of buffer limit you reached, like a bucket thats overflowing.

To my knowledge, the issue is that Daz will load in all morphs that are installed, even if they aren't being used at the time. You can actually see them being loaded by checking the log. The more morphs you have, the worse it gets.

Just checking.  Is your viewport at SubD 1?  That's abso-critical.

And if I pose a G8F and then hit "zero pose", I might as well go get a coffee.

Just a Suggestion.  Setup a different zero-pose.  The various rigs, like face and even for digits will put any system to agrind.  These rigs are separate from the bones if ytou look through the skellie.

  • Periodically, I go through my Installed folder and prune it. Especially for Genesis 8, which has lasted for a while. (I use DIM... and I search on "8", and then I start cutting.)

I have a lot of characters that I bought that I never use, so I get them off of my HD (or SDD, I guess). Especially High Def morphs and figures that I never use. (It's not a sign of quality or dislike. I simply have fallen into a pattern of using models from a smaller set of artists for consistency's sake. Many artists do good work, but not all of them are for my workflow.)

When I buy something new that has a bunch of character morphs, I make a point to take something old off of my machine.

I just try to preserve the balance.

Primary disk has nothing but Windows, DazStudio, Poser, ClipStudioPaintPro, & test render folders. It's at 72% empty. That's not it.

melissastjames nailed the issue, but I'm thinking that more technology will fix it. When will they ever learn?

2min to load G8M Dev Load  figure with 302 products (figures and head/body morphs). and 40s for G8F with 52 products.

since the last 2 to join were piratas, i would love to see now a "western themed" "duo" a male and female old western theme characters with old western outfits(not only cowbioys or bandits, but outifts like xerife/soldier, banker, barman, apache native (also characters based on that), with some old western themed props(like a town) and poses would be really cool for me get a both male and female G8 family themed after that.

How about a classical 'showgirls' theme, like those gals from the 'What have I done to deserve this?' music video (Pet Shop Boys). All those feathers & sparkly costumes would be cool if they could pull if off in DS.

80 core figures for Genesis 8 soon, I never thought that could be possible.

Does somebody still need a kind of character ? Maybe Teen Beast Boy counterpart for Teen Raven.

Even though I know you can dial in toonized or toon dad/hero/toon gen 8 and whatnot, the Guy 8 would be very much welcomed.

Yes, I'd love a tastefully done large man and woman. I'm not talking "a little extra thickness" like Latonya 8, but a tad closer to the size of George (though younger and more attractive lol). A young, larger, male and female couple with Proper JCMs.

Also I'm not sure but I don't think we've had a particularly skinny couple either. A couple a bit like Arabella 7 would be cool too.

Human beings come in such a wide variety of shapes and sizes, we really could get lot more realism if we could get more core characters (again, with proper JCMs and all the great textures that usually come with core Daz Original characters) that reflect the wide range of human sizes.

Human beings come in a much wider variety of shapes and sizes than we've seen in the Daz Original characters and I would love to see more body diversity. :) From sumo wrestlers to tiny gymnasts - the human body can be vast in it's diversity and we're just not seeing much of that diversity in body shapes, imo. We render humans because we want to tell the human story - I want to see more human bodies represented. REALISM demands it and I'd bet a lot of people would throw money at it too. :)

That's an old couple. It's VASTLY easier to age up a character than it is to age down a character. They are also heavily stylized. And Edie is only "half skinny" as the top part of her body is skinny, but the bottom part of her body is quite a bit less skinny.

Yes and no. They are definitely skinny, but they are also rather stylized, reminiscent of Brian Froud's artwork. While they both combine very well with other shapes, their hands and feet tend to be more exaggerated. (Their noses, as well, but they include morphs specifically to reduce/eliminate the stylized noses.)

Yeah, and Edie is only really skinny to about her waist, the lower part of her body is hippy and even a little bit curvy.

Someone on the forum put me onto The Hu last year. And recently I watched a series of YouTube videos of their music and this one, The HU - The Great Chinggis Khaan (Official Music Video), has wonderful ideas for people and their environments in Mongolia. From traditional to Metal Rock fusion, their videos have incredible ideas but what I would love to see, is Mongolians! Men and Women. Old, young, middle-aged. Hair, rocker or historic, all works. Classic historic clothing and modern. Check out their videos on 'Hu in the Kitchen'. Food props.

I am not asking for their instruments, which I expect has been trademarked, to be reproduced, but the 'style' is incredible.

So, looking at the bundle deals of late, plus today's 'Many Faces  Genesis 8' sale, I am getting this vague feeling that Genesis 9 might be just around the corner.  I have no idea if that is indeed the case, but several of the recent bundle deals (such as Tara 8) have had products in them that were released months ago...

Things that make you go hmmm!

Mind you, I'm all for Genesis 8 sticking around a bit longer, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

One vendor did a bunch of historical Mongolian stuff back in Genesis 2, but it never got redone for later generations.

+1 for Mongolian themed products (both historic and metal - also love The Hu)

+1 also for the bigger/skinnier young-ish couples - though I gather they're harder to do with the JCMs (not that I'd know, not being a character creator).
